The Society: Crisis (Part 1)

Post by KOOPS95 »

"The Society: Crisis" depicts the struggles of millions to bring together a shattered Inter-Species Society consisting of the human race and the Vroden race. It follows the story of a charismatic Societor who's territory on the stormy planet Rajhund is caught in between two massive political machines that have resorted to military might to destroy each other. He must lead the Vroden of planet Rajhund in a massive war against the Human Federal Task Force and a massive Vroden fleet that could mean doom for both factions, lest the galaxy desolve into chaos.

Omud Driss carefully set down the ancient tome, dusted and withered, on the long and thin teak desk that dominated the whole left side of his room. Human history was filled with few surprises. Massive battle after battle, ancient wars that raged for whole human years! To the untrained Vroden eye it would seem impossible that a species so bent on destroying itself could survive. But to Driss it was quite obvious that they survived, and often thrived, on the blessed peacetime between the regular bloodbaths that dotted the book throughout. Even then, though, that brutish species barelly scraped up a living, yet they made the most out of it they could. Unlike the common Vrode, humans were agressive, energized, and excited (Driss believed it was a matter of hightened adrenaline levels.) They could persue topics vigorously, and would often continue for their life. He believed he too was energized, but on a different level.

Often in human history their would be widely recognized artists who composed great masterpieces. Many of the best in Driss's mind were tragedies, plays or tales wrought with sorrow and despair at ever turn. It was tragedy that could energize a human the most, for they could see the evil something in their world could do through a personal and close-to-home experience. This would draw on their seemingly unending sources of energy, with the outcome that a better world could be made. Tragedy was what drove Omud Driss through his task too, with the same hopes and dreams.

As tremors shook the liftship straight through, Omud thought of the topic of his visit to Earth. The potential threat to Vroden power resources was enough to ignite a heated debate over if the weapon should be disbanded or continued through research. The Vroden Counsel of Societors had elected Driss to travel to Earth to persuade his close friend and Societor acquaintance Richard Madre to place a bill before the Human Counsel to disband any and all EMP weapons. The counsel might be reluctant, as might Rick, but Driss was obligated to destroy a very threatening type of weapon before it could possibly do damage.

As the liftship landed and the entry door slid down and opened sideways, Driss peered at the beautiful snow-covered city of Moscow, Earth, and wondered if Rick was prepared for what could be asked of him that day.

The pirates left as soon as they had come, as soon as they saw the magnitude of the federal ships in flight above the city. There would be no playing around with a well-known Vroden Societor visiting. Yet, the pirates' inexperience shined through in a terrible way. The last ship to go into orbital jump ran head first into a federal Hammerhead Class ship. At first their was nothing, just silence. Then it hit, like a wave of solid steel shoving at you from all directions. The screeching and tearing was unbearable. People's inaudible screams of pain left sorrow on Madre's face. More than 12,000 deaths for certain. No one could survive a head on collision at orbital jump speed. If you weren't killed by flying shrapnel or explosions, you'd be thrown out of the ship and ripped apart by the horrendous speed of it all. Not one man on either ship could possibly live to tell the tale.

Madre could tell that Driss was the most affected out of the two of them. He had never been exposed to the horrors of experimental inter-planetary travel. Madre, however, could be considered a veteran. He remembered working at CoLabs as his choice of a long-term job. Once he realised the size of all he and his partners were working on, he put in his three-weeks-notice. A pilot had to be as precise as a hawk, or the ship will melt into a star, get ripped open in an asteroid belt, or mash together against another ship. One mistake and you and your crew, your family, your universe would slip away.

Driss was silent the rest of the day. Madre already new the topic of question had been resolved, that the HCS (Human Counsel of Societors) would not back down on their precious EMPs. Even though they new how one could black out a whole planet for years, dooing it to poverty and a lack of civilization. There was little point in trying, but he would submit an objection to the HCS anyway. It was Driss he worried about. Vroden Federal pilots were known to be some of the best, but what if they slackened their tight belt out of confidence. What if Jump-Crashes became a constant, or a normal outcome? Madre would never pursue such a topic because of one mere incident, but he worried Driss might. After all, he knew Driss's personal philosophy; "The mind may heal, but the heart may not."

The escape pod was found an hour and twenty-nine minutes later, in the middle of an outdated chicken farm. The lone survivor of the Jump-Crash stepped out unscathed and unharmed. She was a pirate, and was less than willing to work with the local authorities.

"She'll slowly regain memory, they say. Something about head trauma in the escape pod landing. Wasn't as unscathed as we thought." Madre was talking in fragments, which meant he was confused or aggitated. Probably both, Driss thought. Having to deal with a Jump-Crash and a pirate with a class three amnesia was more than difficult. Not to mention the pressure of thinking up a persuasive document to adress to the HCS the next morning. Politics was the last thing a man needed when he sae 12,000 peaple die right before his eyes.

"Take care of yourself, and don't get too jittery. I know the HCS as well as you, and i know how stubborn they are. Don't overwork yourself on a document that will be wasted by people like Krovski. You know how biased he is against me and mine." Driss spoke darkly. Lashoken Krovski was considered the most conservative, anti-reformist, and racist human of all time. People had done seven-hour-long documentaries on him ranting. Driss also noted he liked to drink. Alot. One day he had marched into the HCS building at Moscow with nothing on but a pair of socks and a top hat, completely drunk and mumbling something about Vroden trade taxes and "mucking up big business". In Driss's eyes the man was an angry old man who does his best every day to sour the days of others. "If he pulls anything about Vroden interferance in a human trade you can call a full-scale investigation about Vroden interferance in his drinking habits." It was widely known that Krovski became hooked on drinking after one glass of Vroden rtyin.

Omud scaled the walkway the rest of the way to the liftship. While the engines revved up for the liftoff, Driss heard Madre shouting over the thundrous noise, "Watch out for yourself, Driss. I have a feeling this might get out of hand fast." With that the walkway closed and the ship lifted grandly off the coldsteel landing pad. As the ship paused and switched to orbital-jump speed, the ship's image became distorted as it gained speed without movement, and then was gone. Driss sat back on a massive recliner, relieved he was finally coming home to Rajhund.

The plan was lucrative, almost insane. No ordinary pirate would ever accept a job like this, for any amount of money. But Vergu wasn't an ordinary pirate, far from it, in fact. In his life he'd downed thirty-nine Foxtrot scout ships, twelve Hammerhead ships-of-the-line, nine Inferno class planetar bombers, and even a Behemoth Battleship. His ship Silverblood was the most dependable in the galaxy besides perhaps the Armageddon, and that beast of a ship would never catch up with his nimble Flitter class ship. The plan fit his ship to a T, too. Get in, bust it up, get out. And the payoff, oh boy. He'd be covered for the livesof twnety men. So why was he this nervous.

"Wave for you, captain. Looks like the little foxes sniffed us out." His intel officer announced. They may have been sniffed out, but their plan remained intact. Just a little stalling and it would be too late.

"Put it up, Sal. Let's see what the man wants with us." Vergu spoke sullenly. Something about this job smelled of deceit. But deceit against Vergu, not for him. As the wave screen lit up with the image of the hard-faced human, Vergu became queesy and uncomfortable.

"Starship Silverblood, access to New York, Earth is denied. It is manditory that you enter your ship's identification codes before entry into orbit." The officer spoke in a monotone, and merely listening to his voice aggitated Vergu.

"We submitted the codes ten minutes ago! Clearly you need to update your loggin books." Vergu faintly complained. His part would not be hard to play.

"Very well, I will search the logs again. Until then hold your possision. We are sending out two investigative ships to assure the safety of the planet."

Vergu sat back on his regal captain's chair and waited for the little "investigative ships", which were no more than three men stuffed into ridiculously small scout ships and sent packing towads any unauthorized ship. No weapons, just light scanner gear and a radio/wave link.

"We have confirmation, captain! Two subs comin' in at five point three clicks. Activating disguised weaponry." This was the fun part. The subs would be shot down with no warning, then the Silverblood would dash in and bomb the hell out of Earth's largest city. A red light signalled that the sip had churned out two slab missiles. Vergu watched blankly as the two subs dissapeared in tiny flashes of flame, then nothingness.

"Now! Get the hell in there!" Vergu nearly screamed as he lept into action, sending the fake alarm beacon to the Authorization Officer. Soon he would believe a trade ship had been pirated and the crew killed three persecs from the Silverblood. As the ship lept forward, then quickly slowed as the city sprawled beneath them, Vergu's eye gleamed. The Great Unity, the massive marble statue of a human and Vrode shaking hands, the very symbol of the Inter-Species Society. "Launch all slab missiles at the 'Unity!"

"Sir, we've detected a problem..." the intel officer spoke slowly as the Great Unity melted under fourteen slab missiles. Vergu nodded at her to continue. "They've activated the Bastile shield. We can't leave orbit." The news took Vergu completely by surprise. THAT was the deceit he felt towards him. He suddenly realised the degree of the matter, and a grave expression crossed his face. "Then God help us all." He spoke silently, but yet the entire cabin understood his words. The human ships were already launching off landing pads. All his missiles were gone, and cuncussion cannons were infamous for their inability to hit moving targets. He was caught on a hostile planet, surrounded by enemies he could not think to hurt. God help them all indeed.

I will be pausing work on "The Society: Crisis" to work on a new story, titled "What is man?".
