Shawn watched as his wife and son made faces into a small picture booth in the mall. Shawn was sitting on the benchs scattered around the mall. Shawn looked around, a normal mall, sure the technology had been making strong advances for the last decade but most shopping had stayed the same.

Shawn saw the news before he had heard it, he looked over to the large display of antique TV's, the stacked TV's were tuned the United State's official news network. Shawn stared at what was being shown. A large ship was firing an array missiles and rockets into the dark air beyond.

"These are live images from the BattleShip CALIFORNIA, showing the start to Operation Western Rivalry. More news to come"

The news anchors voice trembled, almost immediately all TV monitors in the mall were echoeing the news of the firing.

A quick tug on his shorts brought him back to reality. Shawn looked down to see his son, Bryon pulling his shorts in the direction of the Toy Store dead ahead. 2 soft hands reached around his middle and clasped together. Shawn looked back at his Wife, Rhea. Rhea was a year younger than him, with soft flowing hair down to the middle of her back, but it was currently curled and dangled beutifully just below her shoulders. She was 5 foot 10 inches tall, and 170 pounds, matching Shawns 6' 1"and 210 pounds. Shawn looked back and kissed his wife.

"Let's go daddy, c'mon." The small boy took off runing, Rhea chased after the small the boy. Shawn's small phone vibrated in his pocket. Shawn pulled the headpiece from his pocket and stuffed it in his ear.
"Mr. Fuller" The voice was very commanding and Shawn almost flinched as the voice went on. "I'm sure you've seen the news, I'm sending a tactical team to retrieve you, I'm sure you know why. Tell your wife and son goodbye, and meet the contact outside the mall." Shawn tried to reply but the connection was dead. Shawn pulled the earpiece from his ears and put it back in it's place, and ran after his wife and son. Shawn approached his wife, oh so beutifull, Shawn thought staring at his wife's pink top and white shorts. Shawn picked up his son and gave him a quick hug.
"Love you Bryon." Shawn hurried then turned to his wife.
"What is it Shawn?" She asked, picking up Bryon.
"I Love you." Shawn hurried, kissing her passionatly.
"I'll write you." Shawn told her, then pulled out 500 world credits and stuffed them into his wife's pocket.

He walked out of the store and found the nearest exit. He stopped for a second, noticing the helicopter flying close to the ground. Shawn pulled his sunglasses out and put them on, dimming things out, but showing him everyones name, age, and occupation. Normal equipment for his job. Shawn searched around for his contact until he was tapped from behind. Shawn turned and stared at the man, the man was wearing a black suit, even with the 95 degree temperatures.
"Mr. Fuller? Good." The man pulled Shawn around a corner of the mall, and a small rope was dangling in the alley.
"Climb."Shawn gripped the rope, so finally his 6 month furlough was gone. Shawn noticed the helicopter was gone, flew away, somewhere. Shawn climbed the side of the mall and what he saw amazed him. Snipers were being posted on the corners of the mall. As soon as the squad saw him they ran to Shawn, who quietly walked forward.

The squad surrounded him until they reached the helicopter, a man in uniform welcomed him into the ‘copter. The squad/snipers assembled in the back room. Shawn could hear the whine of the engines. Silently they they rose into the air.
"Kind of extravagent for a lieutanent?" Shawn asked, survyeing the crowd watching the ‘copter rise from the top of the mall.
"Not when the most lethal terrist group is hunting you" The man replied and pulled a uniform from a chest in the helicopter. "Put this on." Shawn looked at the man.
"Now, lieutanent!" The man ordered and Shawn did as told, watching the mall dissapear into the surrounding buildings. Shawn noticed the course that was set for the 'copter, straight to Pike's Peak, dead ahead...

Shawn sat in the large, hollow, echoeing, empty hall. Only he and 7 other men were in the room, the 6 sitting across from him seemed to know each other, while the 7 th man was standing in the front, staring out of the peaks hidden fort.
It was so strange; they had gone almost into the peak before dropping 700 feet into a large pit. He was rushed off the landing pad and into this room where he had sat for a good half-hour before the 6 soldiers made there way in. Then just a minute ago, the man who was looking out the window had showed up, had not said a thing but walked straight for the window.
The room seemed to vibrate and the soldiers across from Shawn seemed to grip each other and the chairs they were sitting on. The vibrating stopped and the man turned. The room went dark, very dark. All light was turned off and the, clop-clop-clop-clop, of the mans shoes were the only sound in the room. Even the breathing of the soldiers, and Shawn, seemed to stopmclop-clop-clop-clop;A light shown from the top of the room straight down to the man, illuminating just the man and blinding everyone watching. Shawn stood out of instinct.
“Sit down lieutenant.” The mans voice was commanding and Shawn found his seat. “Gentlemen, thank you for coming, did you have a chance to meet? No? Too bad, you’ll be trusting each other immensely.”

Shawn knew that voice. Knew that mans slightly lit face. Vice-President Hallek. Hallek had been a good man for a long time, serving in both the Gulf War, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Power Clearing in North Korea. Nevertheless, he had turned to politics; he had run with Jamie Hadden. They had been elected together, and Jamie Hadden was the first women president in history. Hadden was liked, although she was a devout Independent, but with her great strides for a better world. Moreover, her friendship with President George W. Bush, launched her into the presidency in 2008, winning 92% of the popular vote, and winning all states in the Electoral College vote.
“Mr. President? How are you sir?” Shawn asked standing again.
“So you do know Lieutenant Fuller?”
“Of course.”
“Well good, you will be flown to a secret base in the northern Atlantic, you and the other 6 men you see across from you will be doing more than sitting here. You will learn more upon entry to Fort Hallek.”
Shawn stood along with the other 6 troops, walked to shake the Vice-Presidents hand and exited the double doors. They moved through the mountain fort with lightning speed, being sped along with gold carts and motorcycles. They reached the flight pad, together. Shawn was handed a flight suit, so they were fly high and into the atmosphere? Maybe to the ISS?

Shawn looked at the small suit, then looked around, men watched them, waiting for the soldiers and Shawn to get dressed. Shawn looked at the men, then slid off his shoes, shirt, pants, and slid on the tight suit. Already he could feel the machinery attach to his body.
Shawn put his shoes on and was sped around another few corners, while Shawn found new zippers and buttons that had to be connected. They were shown into another room where Shawn gasped at what was in front of him. The F/A/B/R 1 the most advanced plane in the world. The plane looked normal, sure, but held awesome firepowers, scanners and the lightest, yet strongest armor ever made. It was almost like heaven for a jet fighter pilot. Only a handful of these planes had ever been made, even few had been flown.

Shawn was shown, up into the plane, he could see the other soldiers boarding the same planes across the flight deck. Shawn connected the different parts of his flight suit into the designated attachments. Soon enough he was handed a helmet, it was olive drab, with the words ‘DOG 1’ on the front in white letters. Shawn put the helmet on and attached even that to the air tank under him.
The pilot ran up the ladder and waved crazily to Shawn. Then slid into the small seat like butter. Within seconds the man was hooked up and talking into the full helmet.
“Sup man? How ya doing? Dog 1 ay? Very nice.” The mans voice sounded normal with a slight Jamaican accent. “Ready to rumble ay? Let’s go.”

The man waved out the top and pressed a button. The clear overhead Plexiglas type seal moved over their head. Another button and a small laptop like computer popped up to him along with two handles to his sides. On the laptop was listed the armory amount, engine information and a radar.

Shawn had been drilled on an old F-30 plane and knew most of the buttons and latches.
“Ready to go?” Shawn didn’t have time to answer because the plane slightly rose into the air. Had they started the plane? Shawn watched as the plane rose to the top of the hangar. He could hear pilot/aircontroller chatter in his helmet. However, he lost complete though as they rocketed out of the peak and into the flatlands beyond. Shawn roughly looked behind him and saw the planes flying in a W shape. More planes flew over their head and stationed themselves about a half mile in front of Shawn’s planes. He was going to start learning about his comrades.
“Hey guys, Shawn Fuller here, lieutenant, US army.” He started; he got a flood of replies.
“Hey, Loo.”
“Sup, Fuller.
“Whats hangin’?”
“Nice huh?”
Shawn laughed as they joked about him in the private frequency.
“Tell me about you guys.” Shawn went on and looked down, they were flying along the mountain chain, but it looked like map…he could see the pacific ocean to his left and flatlands for a million miles to his right. He looked at the laptop and stared at the altitude meter. 30,000 miles above the earth, almost in space, just a half-mile from the first layer of the atmosphere. If anything went wrong, they would plummet 1,500,000 feet to the earth…
