Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Post by Mir »

The plane was in the middle of a patch of turbulence, and the short haired woman didn’t like it, not one bit. She closed her eyes and willed her stomach to settle itself. At least, she hoped that it would listen to her. So far it hadn’t, but she had managed to keep herself from puking or anything like that. So far. When she opened her eyes, she saw that she was still in the cargo plane, staring at an empty row of seats across from her in the S.H.I.E.L.D. modified C-130.

“Funny that you don’t like flying.” A woman’s voice said, and she turned to look towards the front of the plane. There was a woman seated there, shorter than she herself was. Lounging was the better choice of words. “I mean, you have wings and all that.” She said. “I don’t see why it should be a problem.” Tiffany Michaels said.

“Shut up, ‘Spectacular’.” The woman said.

“Look, bug, I had a very nice evening planned with a wonderful guy, and I had managed to find a way to stop this other...also nice guy, but kind of weird sometimes, from crashing it. Like he has the past two times with different guys. And then I get a phone call from Nick Fury. I’m on a mission. I’m stuck with you. And I have to keep you in line.” Spectacular said, opening her eyes and staring at the airsick woman.

“You couldn’t keep me in line even if you were ‘spectacular’.”

“Honey, you volunteered to do this, to help escape jail time. I think you should really be trying to be positive and motivational.” Spectacular said and turned, giving one of the other two women in the plane’s passenger area a smile. “Besides, why do you think I brought a telepath?” She asked.

“Screw your dinner plans. I had to turn down a catering job.” Gabrielle Myers, also known as Feather, said. “It was for a Sheikh. I was going to be paid over a million damn dollars.” She said. The trained cordon bleu chef unstrapped herself and started to walk around the plane. “It was going to be amazing. The pressed duck, one of my specialties. Foie gras for the toast points. I had selected a wonderful wine from France.” She said, her French accent coming out. She kept going on about the meal, until Spectacular had had enough.

“We get it, you know how to nuke some things in a microwave and call it a meal.”

The French woman’s eyes widened as she rounded on one of her best friends. The curses started in French, and though Tiffany had been starting to learn a little bit, she was quickly lost. Finally running out of steam, Gabrielle sat down in her old seat, in a huff. “I can create wonderful adventures for the palate. You can barely make spaghetti.” She said.

“That’s why they put it in a can.” Spectacular said with a grin.

“Peasant.”

“Snob.”

“You guys are amazing.” Wasp said, rolling her eyes.

“Shut up.” They both replied at the same time.

The last woman in the passenger area had been silent all this time, just taking it all in. Spectacular turned and looked at her. “What’s your story, lady. You volunteer for this, just like Anderson over here?” She asked.

"I guess I did." The woman said. She looked at the rest of the group slowly, her eyes taking them all in, in turn. Her mask was off, in her hands, and then she looked back down at it. "I got told by Nick Fury that I was going to be a part of this mission because of things I allegedly did."

"What's your name, anyway?" Wasp, who apparently went by Anderson, asked.

"None of your business." She replied, biting off each word. It was obvious that she wasn't in the plane to be friendly and that she wasn't going to entertain too many questions about who she was. Unfortunately for her, the two actual S.H.I.E.L.D. agents had access to her files, and Feather spoke now, revealing her name.

"It's Josette. Josette Desjardins." Feather said, eyeing the other Frenchwoman.

"I thought Spider-Woman was named Jessica." Anderson said, as Josette glared at Feather.

"I'm not that Spider-Woman." Jos said, her gaze snapping over to Wasp's. "When are we going to get to Brazil?" She asked, moving her gaze to Spectacular.

"We should be starting our final descent in a few minutes." Tiffany said. She leaned back against the wall of the plane and closed her eyes, thinking that everyone was going to be quiet for a little while. She was wrong.

"So how does this work?" Anderson asked. "We do this mission for Fury, and all is forgiven?" She asked. "I can live with that."

"I don't think it's quite like that." Feather replied with a wry grin. "At least, I don't think it's just one mission. You're in a voluntary rehabilitation program. You're not going to get 'fixed' so to speak, in a few days. It's going to take a while, before you're considered a regular member of society again, Andy." She said.

"Only my friends call me Andy."

"Well, we sure as hell better not be enemies."

The short haired woman glowered as she looked away. "I don't get it though, what the hell are we supposed to be investigating anyway? Why does it need four of us? With all of our skill sets, this has to be pretty big, but your one eyed boss seems to think that it requires us to be discreet?"

"He's your boss too now." Feather said. "We've been tasked with this mission in South America. We’re to investigate an interesting series of drug trades that have been going down, but that have also had super powered people involved in them. That makes it something that we're well equipped to deal with. This is supposed to be discreet for a number of reasons. One, the Brazilian government doesn't want it known that they called S.H.I.E.L.D. for help." She said. "Number two, if it's a public thing, it tips off the bad guys and last but not least," She said and then she smiled slightly, "if you two try anything, we don't want the word getting out."

"That we took you two down?" Wasp asked, with a smirk.

"Anytime you want to go, bug, we can go." Spectacular said.

"So we're heading to Rio de Janeiro then." Spider-Woman said, drawing the other three's attention to the woman who had been silent for a while again. "S.H.I.E.L.D. maintains a home office there with a number of undercover agents."

Feather blinked. Just who the hell was this lady? The file had given them information, but clearly not enough. She looked at her friend and saw that Spectacular was thinking the same thing. Didn't need to be a telepath to figure that out. "How do you know that?" She asked.

"That's not your concern." Spider-Woman said. "I know what I know."

"Cryptic." Spectacular said.

"That's how I like things." The other woman replied and Feather smirked at this. "What?" She asked, turning and looking at the other woman.

"Maybe if you'd been more cryptic, you wouldn't have gotten caught and you wouldn't be in the situation you're in right now."

That annoyed her. The black haired woman glared at the other Frenchwoman, who appeared to have no response to that. She steepled her fingers and then looked away. Feather did have a point. Yes, if she had been a bit more protective of the way that she operated and did things, maybe she wouldn't have been caught by S.H.I.E.L.D. She would have been in Beirut by now, instead of on a C-130 headed to Brazil to do some investigating for Nick Fury. Of course the first mission of this temporary probation status would be grunt work. It made sense. A classic move, but one that she would have thought would have been passe for someone such as the one eyed king. Maybe he was a bit predictable, in his old age. But sometimes that worked in his favor. Intelligence had to be an interesting game, but it wasn't one that Josette was interested in. Sure, she had done some espionage work, but she worked the big stuff, nation against nation, corporations versus each other.

This seemed...common. Beneath her.

Knowing that if she didn't respond, Feather would assume that she'd scored a point, Josette opted to remains silent. Let the woman think what she wanted to. Josette knew the truth.

The plane was in it’s final descent a few minutes later. The lights of Rio de Janeiro could be seen from the pilot’s cockpit and they had the clearance that they needed in order to land. Once they landed, the group was taken by S.H.I.E.L.D. escort to the S.H.I.E.L.D. home office in downtown Rio. The building wasn’t too flashy, but it definitely had the S.H.I.E.L.D. emblem flying high on the flag. Inside, it was just like any other building that was owned and operated by the organization. A sense of chaotic order reigned supreme, as various uniformed agents did their work. No one really paid the group too much mind, after the initial interest of two members of S.H.I.E.L.D. One being in the building died down. They were taken to a medium sized conference room and they waited.

The doors opened and a man stepped into the room a short while later.

“Francis Kyle, it’s been a while.” Gabrielle said as the Deputy Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. walked in to the room.

The blond haired man smiled. “Feather.” He said and then gave a head nod to Tiffany. “And Spectacular. Just as Fury said. These are the two who I’ve heard a great deal about.” He added. “Good, all of you are here. This is an interesting operation that we’re going to be running and one that’s going to need everyone’s undivided attention.” He said.

The room darkened and a Fantastic Research Inc. Holoprojector was powered up. The blue display showed a wide assortment of information that Francis cycled through as he spoke.

“We’ve been receiving reports of a number of drug trades that have been going down in Brazil. While this would just be a cause for concern for the local government and for the DEA, since all of this stuff is eventually finding it’s way into the United States, we’ve received reports that there are super powered people involved in the transactions. This is not good, and it’s something that we’re going to crack down on.” He said. “We don’t know anything about the super that’s been working these drug trades, just that they hit heavy and move fast when they need to.”

“Really? Investigative work? That’s what we’re doing here?” Josette asked. She looked at the Deputy Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. with mild disinterest. “You don’t have some S.H.I.E.L.D. wannabes who can do this legwork for you?” She asked.

Spectacular smirked. “Look who’s talking.”

“I’m not a S.H.I.E.L.D. wannabe.” Josette replied. “I’m being forced into this.” She added. She was about to say more when the Deputy Director cut her off.

“Yes, investigative work is what you’re doing here.” Francis Kyle said. “Before you comment on how this is a waste of your time, think about the people in the room. I’m the Deputy Director. There are two members of S.H.I.E.L.D. One in the room and on this mission. Doesn’t that make you think that this is an important mission?”

Josette looked at the man and shrugged.

He shook his head. “Well fine. As you pointed out, you’re being forced into this. So shut up and listen.” He pressed a button and the holoprojector focused on one part of Brazil. “This is the Amazon rainforest. The Brazilian government knows a great deal about what’s going on in there, but at the same time, there are swathes that they don’t have accounted. We’re concerned with this area because that’s where we think the operation is going on.”

“That’s a large amount of land to cover.” Anderson said.

“We have three people who can fly.” Gabrielle said. “It shouldn’t be that big of a problem.”

“I don’t care what you guys have to do, to get it done, just get the job done. We need the drugs taken care of, and that super taken down.” Francis said. “Understood?” He asked. There were nods around the room, as he packed up his belongings. “I’m headed out. Fury knows the particulars, and you have his number in case things get hairy.” He added.

“Don’t worry, we’ll call Nick if this goes south.” Tiffany said.

Francis left the room and then Tiffany looked at Gabrielle. The two women shared a look of unease. With the amount of ground that they had to cover, there was going to be some difficulty in ensuring that the two women who were in their charge behaved themselves. The tracking devices that they had on were good, but that didn’t mean that they were unbeatable. The two women knew that things were probably going to get dicey out there, especially since neither Anderson nor Josette could be properly trusted.

“So what’s the plan?” Anderson asked. The two women looked at her, as did Josette. “Let’s be honest. You don’t trust us, we don’t trust you. You’re thinking that the first chance we get, we’re going to try to split.” She said, pointing at both herself and Josette. “You’re probably right. But the thing is that there’s no way to stop that and be effective at this job.”

“Get to the point.” Gabrielle said.

“I can’t speak for Josette over there, but I want this thing done with as soon as possible. I’m not going to run.”

"I'm not going to run either." Josette said. "The sooner we're done with this the sooner I can get back to things that are important to me." She said.

Spectacular eyed her, obviously not convinced.

"Furthermore, I don't care what you think." She looked at the information that was still on the projector. "Where do we go first?"

Feather walked over and touched a finger to a point on the map of the area. "Here. This is one of the known pipelines of supplies. If we can get there and watch them, then we can figure out where to go next. The Amazon is big, so if we follow the supplies."

"We find them." Anderson said.

They had their destination. The women were able to put whatever personal belongings they had brought with them into storage lockers. Then they were properly outfitted. All were given clothing that would help deal with the humidity and temperature of the Amazon. Also, the women were issued packs that had supplies and gear with them. None of them were issued firearms, but then again, none of them needed firearms. All four had either some kind of superhuman durability or some ability to defend themselves from projectiles. Once they had been suitably outfitted, the group was taken to a small hangar where they were loaded up on a helicopter.

It had the outward appearance of a news helicopter, and once they were up in the air, no one would give them too much notice as they traveled. They moved with speed and efficiency until soon, they were moving over the Amazon itself. The trip took more than a few hours and the group traveled in relative silence. Anderson made her jokes about Tiffany’s supposed boyfriend, and the replies were biting in content and delivery. Outside of that though, they were fairly quiet.

When they reached their destination, the helicopter ended up dropping them off roughly eight miles away from their actual target. This would let them keep their presence down to a minimum and not give them away.

So the eight mile journey started.

They were four miles into the trek.

Gabrielle and Tiffany had taken turns being the eyes in the sky. Anderson was not being trusted with that job, though both women had standardized S.H.I.E.L.D. trackers on them. Still, they didn’t want to take the chance and there was nothing wrong with that. The team had been moving in relative silence. There just wasn’t much to talk about anymore. Little jokes and barbs, those had run their course, and for that Tiffany was grateful. She didn’t like being reminded about Miracle. Yeah he was a nice guy and all, but she wasn’t too sure if being in a relationship was the smartest thing for her, so soon after Derek. The former Captain America had been special, and now she didn’t know what was going on. All she remembered when Derek had come back to life had been him sucking energy from her. He’d depleted her reserves and she’d been knocked unconscious.

They wouldn’t tell her what had happened after that, just that he’d disappeared. But she’d found a way to find out. Cameras were hackable.

He’d said that Mary Sommers wasn’t dead.

Mary Sommers, the elephant in the room, when it had come to her relationship with Derek. Oh, how she hated Mary Sommers. But she didn’t. The woman, when she’d been alive, had been Christian Sommers’ younger sister, and one of the foremost doctors in S.H.I.E.L.D. She’d fought in the Chrell Invasion as a medic and had been on the front lines for a lot of the fighting. Beautiful, but tough. She’d been the team’s medic, until her death. There had been a number of times where she’d helped Tiffany recover. Just because she was extremely durable didn’t mean that she couldn’t still get banged up.

And Mary Sommers had always been there to help. It had made her growing feelings for Derek that much harder to keep hidden. Especially after Derek and Mary had gotten engaged. But she’d found a way to do it.

After everything she’d done to bring him back from the brink of self destruction, after all of that, the first thing that he’d been trying to do when he’d died was to find Mary, freaking perfect, Sommers. When he’d come back from the dead, he’d said that Mary wasn’t dead and then he’d up and disappeared.

Maybe Miracle had some girl back on fourth or fifth world or wherever that he was still pining for. Maybe she looked like that girl. Maybe that Darkseid guy had killed that girl. She didn’t know. Moreover, she wasn’t sure whether or not she wanted to know.

“You need to focus.”

Gabrielle’s words, in her mind, caused her to snap out of her self absorbing thoughts.

“What.”

”I’m not trying to read your mind, but you’re giving off serious mental waves. Get a lid on it, girl.”

Meanwhile back at the S.H.I.E.L.D. Base...

Alarms were ringing all over the base as Fury stood in the Command and Control Center deep within the underground compound. Officers and Tech alike we're running back and forth between stations frantically, while Fury merely watched with his singular eye narrowed in irritation. Upon the large center monitor on the wall, a map display of the United States was displayed with several major cities highlighted in red targeting icons. New York City, Washington D.C., Dallas, LA and Chicago all glowed an ominous red under the targeting reticules.

"T-Minus 10 minutes to launch of ICBM package" Came the computer voice from the speakers.

"Would someone care to tell me how the hell someone breached our launch codes and armed the system for a fucking launch!!" Fury yelled out.

A Tech Officer trotted toward Fury, promptly tripped on the stairs that led up to Fury, and came to a jumbled halt at Fury's feet, picked himself up quickly and snapped a nervous salute. "Um...uh..uh Sir! We don't have any idea how someone was able to hack the system. Bu...but...we have been able to localize the point of access to the system sir!"

"T-Minus 7 minutes to launch of ICBM package"

"Well, don't stand there waiting for me to pat your on the back, dumbass. Spit it the fuck out!" Fury replied.

"Um..it's your office Sir..."

"What the fu..." Fury's eye narrowed. "Get me a Alpha Team to Junction 1A...NOW!"

Within a minute, Fury met the Alpha Team at the corridor that led to his main office. Much to Fury's surprise, the double doors were wide open, and Beethoven Fifth was blaring out from them.

"T-Minus 5 minutes to launch of ICBM package"

Slowly the group moved up the hallway, with Fury standing behind them. The squad slipped around the corner, weapons trained on the lone figure in the room who was sitting in Fury's chair, several holo-monitors up around the desk, not to mention his feet.

Jason Free sat with his fingers swaying back and forth like a conductor to the music playing. He was wearing a standard armor- issue S.H.I.E.L.D. uniform, though the spaces between the armored plates on the chest was a burnt orange, and spaces between the leg plates were a forest green.

"T-Minus 4 minutes to launch of ICBM package"

"Director Fury! How good of you to drop by!" Jason yelled over the music, a broad smile on his lips. Apparently unconcerned about the dozen red laser-sight dots equally distributed between his forehead and chest.

"God Dammit Free! How the fucking hell did you get in here?! This is one of the most secure levels in the whole blasted compound!" Fury yelled back over the music. While his face was a mask of ..well...fury, inside even he was impressed by what this being had just accomplished, but far too stubborn to admit it opening.

"T-Minus 3 minutes to launch of ICBM package"

"Turn that god damn music off!" He yelled.

Jason leaned forward, and cupped his ear towards Fury. "What was that? I can't hear you over the mus..." Faux realization dawned on his face. "Oooooh....sorry." He said as he turned the music off.

"Listen you son of a bitch. De-activate the launch! Or so help me God, I'll splatter your ass all over that back wall!" Fury threatened.

"Well, of course Director." Jason smiled and began entering the code, but then suddenly stopped several entries shy. "But, you've been a bit of a bore about telling me where Tiffany is, and I'm worried about her. Bad dreams and all that. Mind changing your rather draconian mind about telling me now?"

"T-Minus 2 minutes to launch of ICBM package"

The smirk was firmly in place on Jason's face. "Also, in exchange, I'll personally see to it that your Security Systems get a personal overhaul by myself.....free of charge of course."

Fury waited, and waited. The count down continued. They were in the high teens now. With a shrug, he smiled. “Blow the world up.” Fury said and turned, starting to walk out of the room. He opened the door to his office and closed it as the count down hit ten.

“Sir?” One of the agents asked, nervous. Fury could see the nervousness on the man’s face.

“Christ, you suck at this.” He said. “Remind me to can you, once this is done.”

“Yes sir.”

The count down hit zero.

Nothing happened.

With a smirk on his face now, Fury walked back into his office.

“Are you mad, man?!” Miracle asked him. “What if that had been real, and not a War Games scenario? I mean, I like to think of myself as a little Broderickian, as we all should, but still.”

“You didn’t come from wherever the hell you came from, to save the world, to blow it up just because you can’t get a second date with one of my agents.” Fury said. “Did I ever mention that they’re like daughters to me?” He said, off handedly.

Free was examining his fingernails. “Not particularly.”

“Hell in a hand basket after Sheppard died.”

“Terribly sorry, never heard of him. Who?” Free asked.

“Derek Sheppard. Outstanding soldier. Captain America. Tiffany’s ex-boyfriend. Someone I’m quite alright seeing her with. Not an elementary school kid who spilled his primary colors paints all over his clothes.”

“Here I thought I did the S.H.I.E.L.D. outfit quite well.”

“That’s theft.” Fury said, leveling a finger at Miracle.

“I’d like to think of it more as borrowing. After all, I may need it when I go help Tiffany.” Miracle said, leveling a finger right back at Fury. He smiled at the glare he received in response. “Director, you’re going to tell me where she is. I know you will.”

“Get out of my office.”

Josette was the one who saw the supply point first, something that she was rather proud of. Their eyes in the sky had missed it, clearly being distracted by something other than the mission. The woman spoke on their communications devices, letting the rest of the team know what was going on. Then Spectacular went higher up in the air, to get a better visual, while reducing her visibility to those on the ground.

“It’s a supply site alright.” She said back.

“That’s what I said.” Josette said, haughtily.

“Yeah, yeah.” Feather replied.

“So are going in?” Anderson asked. “I haven’t had a decent fight in a while.” She said, rubbing her hands together.

“From the sound of things, you haven’t put up a decent fight in a while.” Feather replied. Wasp scowled at that, but didn’t respond to the jibe. “Spectacular, what are your thoughts? I don’t think that a straight up attack is going to make sense.”

“It wouldn’t.” Josette said, shaking her head as Spectacular floated down from the sky and landed next to them. She looked at Feather. “After all, if we attack them, they know we’re here, and they know they’re being watched. Everyone else will be on better alert when we get to them.” She said.

Spectacular nodded and pointed at Josette. Clearly the two of them were on the same page. That was good. At least someone here was using their head. Josette looked in the distance where a slight trail of smoke from the camp could be seen wafting up into the air. “We’re too noticeable in these clothes.” She said. “You plastered the S.H.I.E.L.D. logo on a lot of things. Not too much, but more than we need.” She added.

Spectacular nodded. The other woman had a point, she had to give her that. "That's easily rectified." She said, setting down her pack. Within seconds, she'd used her powers to burn off the patches that denoted that they had anything to do with S.H.I.E.L.D. Feather did the same with her gear, using her telekinesis. Wasp did so as well, with her bioelectric energy. Josette was the last to follow suit, and then they all looked a bit more common, but still rather out of place for the beginnings of the Amazon.

Then they started forward, to get more information on just what was going on here. "How about a simple group of tourists?" She asked.

Meanwhile back at S.H.I.E.L.D. HQ--

The Chief of Base Security stood before Director Fury's desk at rigid attention, while Fury looked over very reports, his lone eye looking from the report to the Chief from time to time, as if questioning the Chief's report.

"Talk." Fury grumbled as he sat back in his chair, leaning his head over into the splayed fingers of his hand, elbow on the chair rest.

"Well Sir, the report says it all. After he broke into your office, we were following him via surveillance cameras throughout the base, he would turn a corner and by the time we switched cameras, he was gone. We detected no trace of his teleportation signature...he just was gone."

"Next thing we know he is sitting at a console in the Central Network Center playing Battlefield 4, which isn't even out yet, but he somehow cracked into EA's system."

"And then?" Fury was now rubbing his temple with his fingertip.

"I had him taken, shackled and put into the Level 5 Containment, which as you know is suppose to be our containment housing for subjects like Magneto, Wolverine, hell even The Batman shouldn't be able to break out from that one."

The chief cleared his throat, and kept his gaze staring away from Fury. "He escaped...somehow... within 2 hours. He didn't teleport as the camera's would have seen it. Somehow he shorted the video system using a...piece of Styrofoam from his early morning meal." The Chief suddenly looked very uncomfortable, almost angry.

"Spit it out Chief." Fury snapped.

The Chief looked sideways for a moment, biting the bottom of his lip. "Sir, two hours after his escape. He...He called me from my house, told me what a lovely wife and children I had, and that my wife...she...she..."

"God Dammit...spit it out!"

"...she makes a mean Fried Chicken dinner. My wife said that he was very polite, and at no time did she feel threatened."

Fury grumbled, but there was an underlying smirk on his face. "Your assessment?"

"With all due respect sir, the man is a Security menace."

"You mean, that he is making the millions of dollars that we used to make this a ultra-security installation look like a a walk through the park." Fury stated, not questioned.

"In a nutshell sir....yes."

"God, I hate that man...." Fury grumbled again, and blew out a large plume of smoke from his cigar.

"Tourists?" Josette asked and then shook her head. It was a miracle that S.H.I.E.L.D. had been able to capture her in the first place. This made her reevaluate her thoughts on her own abilities and skills. The woman started walking and didn't bother to wait for the others to catch up. "I'm sure it will work. But just in case, we should have another plan." She said. "Considering all the gear that it looks like we have, we should go for a group of researchers who want to study some random frog or something like that." She said and then shrugged, looking over her shoulder at Spectacular. "It's a thought."

"Fine. We're the femme force of fantastic research." Tiffany said, grumbling.

"From the University of Florida?" Anderson asked with a smirk. She gave Gabrielle a look, when the other woman punched her lightly in the shoulder.

"Hey who the hell are you?!"

They looked up when they realize that they'd come around the corner and were walking towards what was clearly a camp of some sorts. Men and women were moving about working to load supplies out of crates and put them onto mules and carts to be transported to the Amazon.

"Josette, you're on." Tiffany said. When the other woman stared, she shrugged. "Your plan, you run point."

So I'm the one who has to do all the work. Fine.

"Hi there." She said, raising her voice and waving. "Um, we're a bit lost." She said, in broken Portuguese. Josette was actually fluent, but she figured if she sounded a bit more out of place, then it would help in the long run. "We're researchers from...the University of Paris." She said, naming the first city that came to mind. Taking a few steps forward, she held her hands open. "We were looking for a rare species of rainforest frog." Josette added. "Maybe you might be able to help us?" She asked, throwing enough plaintive into her tone that it would work.

It was a better plan than being tourists.

"Rainforest frog? Are you crazy? Do you know where you are?" One of the men said. "This isn't some fucking nature preserve. This is Brasil." He added, his Portuguese coming in rapid fire. "You need to get out of here." He said.

"Can we just punch this guy?" Spectacular asked.

Feather gave her a look. She turned to Spider-Woman and then gave her a look.

"Well that's fine. We did know where we were, but thanks." She said, in English, and then switched back to Portuguese. "We're deeply sorry, we'll leave you all alone now. Thanks for the help." Josette said, and then turned to the group. A little over dramatically, she waved her hands. "We should go, totally." She said, trying to effect the voice of a researcher or something like that. She hoped.

The group started to walk away from the camp. Once they were a safe distance, she turned to the rest of them. "That's definitely it. What's the next step?" She asked.

"We wait." TIffany said.

"You need to call Fury for tampons?" Andy asked, being emboldened by Josette's tendencies towards insubordination.

"No, we wait for darkness. If they continue their shipments through the night, then we'll follow them, using the cover of darkness." Tiffany said, ignoring the half-hearted jab. "Play our cards right and we can get them to take us all the way to the main camp." Then she turned and looked at Josette. "Does that work for you, little spider queen?" She asked.

"Should be fine." Josette said. "Provided we're able to stay hidden. We don't know how much lighting they travel with."

"I didn't see much of that when we were in there." Feather said. "That can make it more dangerous."

Josette nodded. She looked back in the distance where the camp was. The faster this was over with, the faster that she could move on with her life, even if it was with S.H.I.E.L.D. She couldn't wait for this mission to be over. There was so much more that she could be doing, instead of being down here in Brazil.

When darkness fell, the women were ready. They hadn’t bothered with seeing up some kind of camp, since they weren’t going to be spending the night at a camp, nor did they want to make anything that might draw any attention to themselves. Rather, they just waited. Anderson passed the time by asking questions about what Tiffany and Gabrielle had done for S.H.I.E.L.D. and the two women had answered as best as they were allowed to by the rules and regulations that governed what they did. Josette for her part stayed silent, thinking about whatever it was that she thought about. The other women didn’t bother her and she certainly didn’t try to start a conversation with them.

Once the night fell though, they moved. Spectacular was up in the air, surveying the ground. Meanwhile, Feather was able to track the group that they were following, using her telepathy. She doubted that any of them would pick up on the fact that there was a telepath in their heads. That was because she wasn’t trying to pick up on their thoughts, or read their minds, just use their minds as form of a telepathic sonar to track them.

The group continued through the forest after their quarry.

At S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters there are many rooms. In one of those rooms, the man known as Jason Free found himself sitting down, twiddling his thumbs. This was not something that he wanted to do, but he found himself doing it nonetheless. Twiddling when there were other things that he could be doing. The table in the room had another chair across from it, one that he was hoping would be occupied soon. The Mother Box let loose with a low noise.

Ping..ping...ping...

“That’s an understatement, Mother. Clearly this whole operation needs an overhaul.” Jason said. “Why, I think a new coat of paint might cheer old Fury...” He trailed off when the door to the room opened. “Director Fury, you got my message!” He said with a smile.

“You sprayed ‘Meet me here.’ with a map. On a wall. In the men’s bathroom. In shaving cream.”

“It’ll wash. I think.” Jason said. “Now, let this meeting begin.” He gestured at the chair for Fury to sit.

“We’re not having a meeting.”

“But we’re two parties, conversing about a shared topic of concern. Maybe the definition is a little different to you, but to me, we’re having a meeting.”

“Most of my meetings end with me shooting someone.” Fury said, indicating the pistol on his hip.

Jason shook his head. “Such violence. That just won’t do.” He said. “To the matter at hand. You know where one Tiffany Michaels, known as Spectacular, currently is. I wish to acquire this information. Since you haven’t been such a sport about telling me before, I was wondering what it is that I can do or offer that will convince you to volunteer said information to my person.” He said and gave Fury a winning smile.

“No.”

Jason paused and considered. “That’s not exactly a proper response.”

Mother pinged in agreement.

“Look, Free. I don’t like you.” Fury said.

“That I actually already knew. Interestingly, it’s something that you’ve been quite vocal about. It’s the other stuff that I-” Jason said, interrupting before he was interrupted himself.

“No, you don’t get it. I don’t like you. And my daughters only deal with people that I like. You’re not a soldier, you’re not fit for service. You’re a raving idiot who thinks the world is sunshine and rainbows. Why on God’s green earth would I tell you where Tiffany is when she’s running a covert operation?” Fury said, his hands on the table. “Explain to me how that makes any sense?”

“I could help.” Jason said, frowning. “Let’s consider for a moment that S.H.I.E.L.D. is supposed to be the best place on earth when it comes to security. I made your security algorithms look like they were made by a three year old using a crayon he’d just stuck up his nose. Clearly I’m well equipped for helping.”

“You’re missing the point.” He said. “You’re not her boyfriend. Also, you will never be her boyfriend.”

Jason’s frown deepened. “That’s hurtful.”

“This meeting is over. Get the hell out of my building. Or we’ll have another meeting. And Colossus will throw you out.” Fury said, turning and heading out of the room.

The door slammed shut.

Mother, you were right. Director Fury does need a hug.” Jason said. He rose but then his feet buckled and he sank back down into the chair.

---
“Fuck you!” Tiffany said, reaching out violently and struggling against the jack booted thugs that were roughhousing her. But despite her powers, despite her strength, ther was nothing that she could do about it. One of them had a large pipe of some kind of material and it connected with her stomach, causing her to double over and grimace in pain. She was thrown roughly against a wall in the building that she was in. Dirt and grime dominated the decor, which could only be described as third world chic.

Then men were on top of her again, dragging her up. One of them came up to her and pulled out a syringe filled with some kind of orange liquid in it. He squired some of it out and then one of them men grabbed her arm, holding it out. The syringe let a single, solitary drop of the orange liquid onto her bare arm.

The defiance changed to pain.

“This is something fun for you. The compound is designed to eat through your powers, and then it becomes a potent acid that will burn through your skin. It’s a painful process, burning through someone with durability like yours. It’s going to take hours. Maybe even days. But don’t worry. We have all the time in the world.”

The world went black

Jason's head snapped to the left and right, getting his bearings. His mind whirled in confusion. Was it a waking dream? Was it a vision? Being a New God, and the son of Scott Free, he was born with a form of pre-cognition that is what makes him so hard to hit, as he could sense an enemies movements before they had even attacked him. But this was something else. Never had he had a vision so ...vivid. In his mind, he could still hear Tiffany screaming...shrill, full of pain and anguish.

Ping, ping...pingpingpingping!!

"I am in control Mother!" Jason snapped at the overly worried tones of his Mother Box.

But deep down inside, he knew he was losing control. He felt his own being fighting a massive tug of war between calm and anger, sanity and insanity. His eyes darted back and forth as he struggled to fight against the despair that he was feeling towards the pain he felt Tiffany going through, the irritation of Fury for not listening to him, and telling him what he needed...no...demanded to know.

pingpingpingpingping!!

This was Fury's fault....

Reality warps within the room, like a wave caused by a pebble striking the still waters of a pond, the waves spread outwards. The tables and chairs in the room leap into the air, then fall to the floor. Picture frames on the walls shatter as the waves stretches further out until the doors to the room buckle and shatter from the tide of warping reality.

PINGPING.....PINGPING.....PINGPING!!

The SHIELD Agents outside the door have no time to think before Jason levels them both with a round house kick that obliterates their jaws, all the while Jason walks...no....he stalks towards Fury, who is suddenly lifted up into the air as time itself seems to slow down.

"Damn you Fury, I NEED to know where Tiffany is!! Her life is in danger!" To Fury, Jason appears to be moving normally, while everything around him stops. Jason continues to walk forward, unmoving pieces of debris bounce off his chest as he walks into them, causing them to float away in the Zero G atmosphere. "You sanctimonious ass! Who in the Nine Hells do you think you are to be so judgmental about ME?!

"Tiffany is the one person in the misbegotten shithole you call Earth, that actually calms me, she isn't a fake or fraud like most of your women on the planet. She's straight forward, beautiful and intelligent. Qualities that I find 'very' lacking with you kind. And now she is in danger, I can feel it, I SAW it!"

"There is a reason why everything is 'Rainbow and Sunshine' as you so arrogantly summed me up. I hold within me the Anti-Life Equation, and it costs me much to hold my temper! So congratulations, you stubborn arrogant, male chauvinistic, control freak! You won the grand prize! You've gone and pissed me off!"

"Tell you what bright boy. Cry me a river and then build a bridge and get over it." Fury retorts back defiantly.

"You pompous windbag. You know nothing about me and what I sacrificed to be what I am." Jason's expression is almost obscenely filled with malice, when just moments before his face was handsome and smiling with his normal charm. "You have no idea what it takes to keep this power in check...but you are about to find out!"

BOOOOOOM!!!!

The Boom Tube opens directly behind Fury, and then suddenly Jason runs at Fury's motionless body and slams into him, carrying them both through the portal of whirling light.

Fury doesn't know how long he was out, as his senses slowly start coming back to him, but the first thing he feels is heat. Oppressive, overwhelming heat cocoons his body as he slowly opens his eye. What he sees is stark and barren red tundra, huge gouts of flame burst from some enormous city sized vent in the distance, the flame reaches far up into the hellish red sky piercing the atmospheric layer and shooting off into space. Even the sage-like vegetation is a pale crimson color of fire.

"Welcome to my childhood home Director Fury." Jason was knelt down beside him absently picking a piece of dry scrub grass and letting it flitter away in the hot groaning wind. He once again had his boyish smirk on his face and seemed to be at ease with himself. "Welcome to Apokolips. Sorry about the temper tantrum...but you could say that you brought this on yourself."

Fury had seen a great deal of things in his life. He'd witnessed the advent of the Chrell. He'd fought in the invasion. Pushed them back from home and hearth. Seeing cities destroyed had taken it's toll on him. The man had sworn that never again would something like that happen. It seemed as though he had been plunged back into just that. This world did live up to it's name, that was for sure. "So you grew up here?" He asked, wiping his mouth after he puked from the rigors of the travel. It had been a rough teleport for him, but something told him that had been part of the set up that Miracle had done. "Interesting place." He rose, his one good eye looking around the place. "Reminds me of the Bronx." He said.

"You're joking." Miracle said. "I bring you to Apokolips and you're joking." He said.

"Well, if I told you how I was really feeling and thinking, kid, I wouldn't be much of a God damned spymaster, now would I?" Fury asked. "But if it makes you feel better, I want to puke again." He said. He paused. "Okay, I'm going to puke again now." He said and did just that. "Had to suck growing up here. Nobody should have to go through this and that's what I'm fighting for. What I'm fighting against. Maybe you can understand how I feel about my kids." Fury added. "Point made. Get us out of here, Miracle."

Don't placate me Director Fury." Jason smiled broadly with a knowing smile. "Your a tough human, who has a vast capacity for getting things that you want, using whatever means you must to get it. If that includes sacrificing a few lives along the way...so be it."

He reaches towards Fury, who immediately places his hand on his shouldered sidearm, and give him a suspicious look.

"Please Director, if you shoot and kill me here, you will be stuck here, and trust me, you don't want to be stuck here."

He places his hand on Fury's shoulder, and the nausea and heat seem to fade from his body. "It's an environmental shielding, it will last long enough for me to show you something."

"What? Doing to show me the old homestead, meet the family and pet the dog?"

'Ping ping, ping pingpingping pingping'

"Now Mother, you shouldn't say such things about our illustrious Director." Jason smirked.

"What did she say?"

"You are a sarcastic asshole."

"I like her, she's got moxie."

"Anyway, come with me Director." Jason stepped over to the edge of a long winding ridge, who's edge plunged several miles down, and was looking at the enormous valley below where a huge city rested. Much like the stark and bleak world that it inhabited, the city was stone and steel, barren of design or aesthetically pleasing decorations or symmetry. Sitting in the middle of the city was a giant structure, perhaps the only structure that had a sort of design...and that design was that of a grim visage, chiseled much like the owner of the face to which it belonged out of stone, three faces of Darkseid, with giant red glowing eyes, stared out into the distance as if seeing all that surrounds his capital.

"Aren't you a little bit worried that the owner of this hellhole will discover us here?" Fury looked down at the sprawling stone city below with huge bellowing Fire Pits that were pockmarked around it.

"Oh, he knows we're here Director." Jason stated factually. "Darkseid doesn't do anything without studying it first. Right now, he is curious about why I'm here, and who you are. He will not act unless he knows he has a tactical advantage."

"Your father taught you well Free." The voice behind them was low and unemotional, sounding much like a reverberating voice of doom coming from the back of a deep dark cave.

Fury spun around, his pistol in his hand and fired several shots off, only to have Darkseid raise his hand and the blasts harmlessly ricochet of it without even so much as a scratch.

"Kinda foolish, now that you thought about it, eh Director?" Jason smiles

"Bad habit. But don't tell anyone."

"My lips are sealed."

Jason merely stood with his back to the giant towering being that now stood silently behind them. His stoney, completely emotionless, visage peered down at the two with glowing red eyes. He returned his hand behind his back, clasping the other, glaring at them contemplatively.

"It intrigues me as to why you would dare step foot on my world Free. Especially with this....human.

"An object lesson Darkseid, one I think the Director is beginning to grasp."

"Ok Free, you made your point. Didn't you say something about someone in danger?"

"Human, the only persons in danger right now, are you and Free. You need to concentrate on the present, and worry not of the future, for you may not have one.

OOC: I was kind of thrown for a loop there for a bit. Mir explained it to me. :D

Also, I want to go to Fourth World. Well, I want to see New Genesis, lol. :D

IC:

They had been tracking the group for more than an hour now, and Josette was getting anxious. She didn’t want to be in this God forsaken jungle and definitely not with the company that she was with. She knew that there were trackers on her, but she didn’t know where they were. For all she knew, S.H.I.E.L.D. had managed to put them inside of her. Even if they weren’t there, they were walking with a powerful telepath. The odds of getting away were slim, but that didn’t mean that they weren’t worth taking a chance. Looking around, she saw Anderson and contemplated for a moment whether or not it made sense to enlist Anderson in her plan.

No, it didn’t. If anything, having Anderson as a wild card made her chances better. The two S.H.I.E.L.D. operatives would have to ensure that Anderson didn’t run, and if she did, it meant that they’d have to split up in order to go after both her and Anderson.

She was about to make her break for it, when Feather looked directly at her.

“Realistically, that’s not a smart move.” The other French woman said.

“You really are that good huh?” Josette asked.

“I’ve had telepathy classes with the lady who got chosen by the Phoenix Force. I am that good.” She said. “And the trackers, you’re not going to find them, sweetheart.” She said. “So don’t get any stupid ideas.”

“This may come as a bit of a surprise to you,” Fury said, “but I make it a habit not to be show fear or deference for that matter to anyone.” He said. “Whether or not they can fry me with their eyes. Not exactly good for business. That being said, you seem to be pretty comfortable around these parts, kind of like you own the place.”

“Probably because he does.” Miracle said with a smile.

”Free is correct. While I do respect your dedication to appearances and perception, they will do you no good here.”

“Force of habit, I’m afraid.” The one eyed man replied. “Didn’t the guy with the red cape punch you? Like really hard?” He asked. “I was there, I remember that.” He said.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

The tracking had stopped.

The group had advanced a great deal, and the agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. had followed them at a safe distance. But now that group had stopped and the agents along with them. They could see them, somewhat in the distance by the torches and lights that the group had brought along with them.

“We’re not going to move in right away.” Spectacular said. “We need to know what’s going on over there.” She said and then looked at Feather.

“I’m trying to read their minds, and I’m not getting much. The problem is that they’re thinking in Portuguese and I don’t really understand the language.”

“I do.” Josette said. “At least, more than you.” She said. “Is there a way that you can link our minds?” She asked.

“Worth a shot.”

If Darkseid frowned, it would be lost on the stoney countenance of his grim visage, but his glowing eyes flared slightly at Fury's jab. "The Kryptonian's interference will be accounted for in due time human, and at a time of my choosing."

"But the question still intrigues me as to why you are here Free." Darkseid looked at Jason, almost seemingly ignoring Fury's presence as now insignificant.

"Oh, just missing the ole' homestead and showing my dear friend Director Fury what a wonderful place it was to grow up on the palatial plains of Apokolips." Jason smiles.

"You dare much to come here with your insolent prattle."

Fury leans over and in a conspirator-like manner and whispers. "Umm, why hasn't he turned us to ashes yet?"

"Because I am allowing it...insect. Free knows very well that he holds within him that which a seek, and that which his father thwarted me from obtaining.

"Good ears, for a guy that doesn't have any." Fury replied.

"Careful Director." Free warns, his smile faltering slightly. "While Darkseid hasn't done anything, it is only because we have surprised him by coming here, and he is cautious enough to never underestimate his enemies. But make no mistake, his power is immense."

“I’ve heard that before.” Fury said. He lifted a hand towards Darkseid. “No disrespect intended.” He added. “The Chrell Invasion, and let’s not forget all the fun times I had before the Chrell Invasion, dealing with the original heroes and villains and whatever they wanted to call themselves. Bunch of people claiming to have immense power and what not. I mean,” He said, waving a hand around, “I remember a Darkseid from back in the day. I’m not saying that he wasn’t pretty potent, but you know, something happened to him too. Unless you remember that one time, way back, when John Constantine had photographic proof of some type of indiscretion of Granny whatever her names is.”

Josette’s mind felt like it had exploded. It was always interesting to experience other people’s powers, and telepathy seemed to be the most common for her to experience. She’d experienced this in the past, but what was interesting to her was that telepaths were different. They all got to the end result the same, utilizing the astral plane, and the psychic fields of the universe, but the methodology was always unique to each telepath. With that in mind, the way her head felt when she connected with Gabrielle was like a heady drug hitting one for the first time.

She felt everything. Their thoughts, their ideas, their fears. At first she struggled to make sense of it all, but then she started to make it work, translating in her head.

“This is the camp.” She said. “It’s what we’re looking for. They’re already started unpacking everything, and by sunrise they’re going to be moving back to the original camp we were at.” Josette said.

“So we move in tomorrow.” Tiffany said. “After sunrise.”

Josette nodded, staggering forward as the connection with Gabrielle broke. She tasted bile in her mouth and struggled to keep it down. “Nice.” She said looking at Gabrielle.

“Sorry.” The other woman said.

As the sun rose, the group started moving. The women waited for a short period of time, and then they too started moving. Throughout the night, they’d taken turns keeping watch, but it had mainly been Tiffany and Gabrielle. Anderson and Josette had been able to get a full night’s sleep. Gabrielle had also been using her powers to trick everyone’s mind so that they thought that they were warm. As with all placebo effect’s they’d been fine. Now the group moved through the jungle, towards the camp. It didn’t take them that long before they had line of sight of the camp.

It was a large place, easily over five acres in size. There were simple wooden fences around the place, no more than fifteen feet high. The camp itself was made out of wood and easily obtained building materials, with the exception of the largest building, which looked like it was made out of more durable concrete.

“We have to get in there to find out whether or not this is the main production facility.” Gabrielle said.

“No, not really.” Anderson said. “We check out what they load up with to take back to the original camp. If it’s the drugs, then we know that this is at least a repository.” She said. “Next, we check to see if what they brought with them, which looked like raw materials for packaging, gets sent anywhere else. If it stays here, then this is the place.” She said.

When Tiffany looked at her, Andy shrugged. “I don’t talk that much, but I see everything.” She said.

“Fair enough.” Gabrielle said. “We should be able to that through aerial recon.” She said. “Tiffany, Andy, I think you two are the best bet for that.” She said.

It was the place that they were looking for, Andy was able to confirm it. Both she and Tiffany conducted the recon that was needed for them to know that this was the place. From there the plan went into motion, the group moving into action. Simple, Josette played a small role in the overall plan. That was something that she could appreciate. They weren’t anticipating any kind of serious opposition, and that meant that they could be in and out quickly. Hopefully she’d be able to go and do something more meaningful after this. Anything, really.

She was maybe thirty meters from the wall to the encampment, when she stopped moving. Josette was moving over a hill, when she saw some one that she recognized. “Stop.” She said, more to herself than to the rest of the women that made up the team.

“What? What is it?” Gabrielle asked. Her voice showed that she was surprised by the hold up. What was going on?

“They have a super.” Josette said.

“They what?” Gabrielle asked, hr voice changing to one of incredulity. “The report was only that supers have been involved in distribution up north, not that they were here. I can’t pick up anyone with powers out there.” She said.

“Well, I’ve worked with her before. She’s a professional, very, very good at what she does.” Josette said. “I’m not a hundred percent sure on her name. When I worked with her, she went by the name of Winter Chandler.” She said.

“What can she do?” Andy asked. “I’ve never heard of her before.” She said. “What does this mean for the plan?” She asked. “Do we call it off?”

“Hold on.” Tiffany said, and pulled out a small tablet. The tablet, which looked similar to an iPad Mini, was designed and built by Fantastic Research Inc., in conjunction with one of the SARD facilities. The Berlin one, if she remembered right. She typed in the name Winter Chandler and waited. It didn’t take long, but a basic profile popped up. Nothing too crazy. She didn’t understand what it was that had bothered Josette so much, but anything that could do that to her piqued Tiffany’s interest. About to see if they could do some more sleuthing on who this lady was, her phone started to vibrate.

“Tiffany, why were you looking for Winter Chandler?” The voice said, and she recognized it.

“Nick, I think she’s here. Josette id’ed her. as someone in the drug compound.” Tiffany said. “Why do you sound out of breath?” She asked and then she heard a voice in the background that she recognized as well. “Is that Jason?” She asked.

“Yes, it’s your God damn boyfriend.” Fury replied and she could hear something crash in the background. “He wants to know where you are.”

“He’s not my boyfriend.” She said.

“Awww, true love.” Andy said, as the group was able to hear her side of the conversation.

“Shut your face, Wasp.” Tiffany retorted. “What’s the deal with Chandler?” She asked.

“She’s got magic.” Fury said. “We’ve been trying to find her for a while, but she manages to evade us every time.” He said. “She’s almost as damn good at that as Delancey. If you can grab her in the process, do it. But be careful. We have no idea what she can actually do, what her limits are.” He said.

“You don’t have some sorcerer on the payroll or some shit that you can send us?” She asked.

“No, you’re on your own.” He said and then he was interrupted.

“She is never truly alone! For I am Mister-”

There was another crash.

“This bastard took me to Apokolips. I had tea with Darkseid. Your boyfriend is on my shit list.”

“He’s not my boyfriend.”

“Tell that to him.” Fury replied. “Matter of fact, I’m sending him to you.” He said.

Tiffany hung up. “She’s got magic powers, if we can capture her, we do, but either way, we’re going in now.” She said.

“You don’t want to wait for-”

”No.”

Darkseid observed the conversation between Fury and Tiffany with a bemused expression, if by bemused one thought of the look on a Lion's face that is about to pounce on a antelope. The Parademons that arrived were nothing more than a toying tactic for Darkseid to observe the actions of the two interlopers on his world, but mostly to observe Director Fury to place in his memory for future reference. Impressed with the man's abilities would be too strong a word in the vocabulary of Darkseid, but the man's agility and tactics were thought provoking for a normal human.

Jason Free on the other hand was bounding from demon to demon, his energy polearm smashing, jabbing and crushing his small Parademon squadron with an almost gleeful expression, all the while asking Fury, "Tell Tiffany I said Hi!" as he smashed another demon's skull into mush, jammed one end of the polearm into the back of the fallen demon and vaulting up into the air as two demon's rushed at him from both sides, only to crash into each other's heads as Free leaped into the air above them.

"Enough" Darkseid's voice boomed, and the remaining Parademons back away from the two. "The amusement is over Free. Now leave Apokolips before I change my mind."

"You got your wish bright boy." Fury grumbled as he shut off the comm. "Now get us the fuck outta here before Stoney Jackson changes his mind."

BOOM!!

Immediately a Boom Tube burst into existence behind Fury and Jason. Fury immediately stepped through and blurred out into the spiraling tube of energy. Jason smirked at Darkseid and then turned to enter the transport.

"You made a serious error in judgement Free." Darkseid's voice echoed menacingly.

"Oh really?" Jason turned, his smirk firmly in place. "And what, pray tell was that mistake?"

"Tiffany Michael's." This time there was a smile on Darkseid's stoney face. A smile that even chilled Jason's blood, and the smirk disappeared from Jason's lips as he entered the Boom Tube.

Jason was met on the other side of the Boom Tube in Fury's office, by Fury's fist square on Jason's jaw. The impact wasn't so much painful, as it was a shock to Jason, as he staggered several steps backwards. Fury walked up to Jason, his white gloved finger pointing between Jason's eyes, while Fury's singular eye blazed with anger.

"Listen up you son of a bitch. You pull a fucking stunt like that again and i'll lock you in a coffin, throw you in a volcano and then fill it full of polymer resin and seal you away until the Second Coming of Jesus Christ himself!"

"Actually that happened to me...."

"Shut the fuck up!" Fury yelled and then tried to compose himself, taking a deep breath and walking slowly over to his desk. He picked up a datapad and tossed it to Jason without even looking. "You'll find everything you need to know on that pad. Get there and do what you can, we didn't count on Chandler being there."

Jason looked at the pad's information and turned away towards the doors, reading.

"Oh, and Free..." Fury said, causing Jason to turn and look at him. "Anything happens to my girl...I will kill you."

The tone and emotionless sound of it was enough to convince Jason that he meant every bit of that statement.

When the door shut behind Jason, Fury pushed the intercom button to the Med Center with his left hand. "Doc, send a intern up to my office."

--Everything ok Director?--

"No, I broke my fucking hand." Fury closed the comm before the doctor could respond.

Josette shook her head. She wasn’t sure that this was a good idea, but what choice did she have? Moving in, she leapt over the small, crude wall, landing on the ground easily. The woman started running, and lifted her arm up, firing her green venom stings towards anyone she could see that didn’t look friendly. Which basically meant everyone. She heard raised shouts start to crop up throughout the base, and that meant that the rest of the women on the team had started their side of the fight. So she hadn’t been the only fool to jump the fence, that was good.

Doing her best to stay out of the line of sight of Winter Chandler, she kept moving, ducking past wild swings from some of the guerilla forces. Those that had weapons started to reach for them, cocking the weapons and opening fire.

That was going to complicate things. She didn’t like guns. Even with superhuman agility and reflexes, there was only so fast that she could move. Sooner or later, someone with a gun was going to be faster than her. Hopefully it wouldn’t be today. Acrobatically moving through the air, Josette dispatched those that were in front of her and when she landed, she froze.

Chandler was walking around the encampment and the two women locked eyes. The look on each’s face was very different from the other’s. Josette’s was one of mild fear and apprehension. Chandler’s was one of surprise and cool, calculating interest. That was Winter Chandler. The name wasn’t “Winter” as a damn joke. Josette had learned that in the past when she’d worked with her. This wasn’t going to be good, especially since Chandler had seen her.

“Josette.” She said, her tone monotone and dead. “That’s a surprise.”

Agent Jones, Junior Grade, sat at his desk at the S.H.I.E.L.D. Station in Brazil, situated secretly within the very rock of the Cristo Redentor. It was not one of the most glamorous positions within the agency, but it was one of the more scenic in the world. By scenic, he meant the females that usually walked the beaches wearing nothing but false dreams in the eyes of men, unless they had the money to make those dreams come true. Jones always made the dreams come true, under the logic that he was gaining a valuable informant for the agency, when in fact it was the other way around.

But other than the scenic nature of his posting, it was usually sitting at his desk reading through report after report of suspicious activity, or abnormal sighting within the temperate country. For months they had been receiving data on odd drug trade activities within the jungle areas nearby...enough odd data that the Brazilian Government had called on S.H.I.E.L.D. to have a look see into it. Of course Jones wouldn't be a part of it, much to his chagrin. He wanted to get out into the field and do some real work, but at his current level, he was resigned to continue to warm a chair in front of a computer screen, which currently was displaying a picture from one of his favorite night time girls, who had graciously given him a thumb drive with the pictures of her in various stages of undress.

"Oh, the things I'm going to do to you tonig...."

BOOM!

The space in front of his desk exploded into a tunnel of swirling multi-colored light, and stepping through the light a man leaps out before the tunnel seems to collapse back on itself. Sheets of paper and Post-It notes flutter and swirl in the air as the man in a strangely designed S.H.I.E.L.D. uniform, including the voluminous forest green cloak that whirled around his form, looked at Agent Jones.

Jones leaned back in his chair, while the rest of the recovering agents drew their weapons and were pointing them at Jason, whom looked around the room with a casual, fearless smile at the multitudes of weapons pointing at him. "My, you S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents look like your at a convention for militant Funeral Directors. I need to talk to Fury about some more casual wear for you guys."

"Who...who the hell are you?!?" Jones stutters out.

"Miracle...Mister, Miracle." Jason states in a very passable Sean Connery voice.

"Wh...who?!?" Jones replied.

"Here." Jason produced the S.H.I.E.L.D. datapad from inside his cloak and handed it to Jones.

Jones took the tablet and looked at the information on the screen and then plugging in the tablet, allowing the computer to verify the contents and passcodes. He was surprised when the computer reported that the orders were authenticated, by Director Fury himself. When Jones looked back, Jason was appreciating the current picture of Jone's female companion on the other monitor with a scrutinizing smile.

"It amazes me that your human females are capable of such contortions, though I'm sure you can appreciate them." Jason said.

'Ping! Ping ping ping pingpingping pingping ping ping pingpingping!'

"Are you sure Mother?" Jason replied to the strange pinging sound that seemed to come from the very air in the room.

'Ping!'

"Very well, trace it and let me know." Jason then reached down and pulled the thumb drive from Jone's computer. "Pardon me, but Mother says that their is a anomalous wireless signal that is coming from this device. She stated that the signal does not appear to be one that is used by S.H.I.E.L.D,. She is tracing the signal to its source."

'Ping! Pingpingpingping ping ping pingping.'

"Excellent, thank you Mother." Jason smiled a knowing smile to Jones, seeing his nervousness as the other agents were looking at him suspiciously. "You have done some fine work here Agent..." Jason looks around the desk and finds Jone's name on one of the reports. "...Agent Jones. Your finding of this device will lead me to the very malcontents that I am looking for." Jason stated more for the others than towards Jones himself. He than leans down and whispers so only Jones can hear him. "My advice Mr. Jones is to apprehend your lovely little contortionist and bring her in for questioning, I'm sure she will no doubt give you all some valuable information. And next time...I'd more a bit more careful whom you trust."

Jason stands up straight. "Mother will use the signal to home in on the source. Again, good work Agent Jones. I will report to Director Fury himself of your fine work."

"Th...thank you...Sir."

"No! Thank you Agent!" Jason smiled and then entered the nearby elevator to the hangar bay. "I'll use the hangar to exit, I keep forgetting how disruptive the Boom Tube is in enclosed places." Jason smirks as the doors shut.

The woman slid Ray Ban Aviators onto her face as she reached down for the SCAR-H that she had slung. The weapon came up, and she started opening fire. Round after round of 7.62x51mm rounds flew through the air, impacting against crates and wood and other objects that littered the camp as she tried to hit Feather. Feather for her part was using her telekinesis in the best way that she could, trying to create temporary telekinetic shields for the bullets to come against and be pushed away with. Technically, the woman had scored a kill shot every time, but Feather had been able to deflect the rounds.

Her luck was going to run out sooner or later though. What she was doing required excessive amounts of concentration. Should another one of the soldiers in the camp start shooting at her, then she was going to make a mistake.

The woman watched as Feather ducked behind a forklift truck. With a small, almost seductive smile, she reached down, sliding a grenade into the underslung launcher. After she adjusted her fire and pulled the trigger, she watched as the side of the forklift that she could see had to deal with the 40mm grenade exploding against it. No doubt it would cause the woman on the other side to grit her teeth.

A green bioelectric shot moved past her, slamming harmlessly into the ground.

Turning, she saw a woman floating high up in the air, with what seemed like wings. With an eyebrow raised, she slid a fresh magazine into her rifle and took aim.

“Holy Shit, this lady isn’t playing around.” Andy said, trying to fire back, while dodging and weaving. “She gets lucky once or twice, I’m going to be on the ground for a while.” She said. “Not to complain or anything, but any help?” She asked.

“Allow me.” Spectacular said, running forward on the ground. She body checked a soldier, knocking him backwards and into a parked vehicle. Continuing her run, she threw herself forward, in a move that Derek had taught her, a good, clean football tackle.

Winter fell to the ground, the gun going flying. She twisted on the ground, a knife already in her hand. She brought it down, and Spectacular smiled, knowing that nothing was going to happen. Until the knife slid into her thigh, drawing blood. Winter just gave her a small smile, and Spectacular could have sworn she saw blue wisps of something on the part of the blade that was sticking out of her. The two women rolled apart, and Spectacular wrenched the blade out of her thigh. She twirled it, also taught to her by Derek, so that she held it with the blade pointed towards the ground.

“You’re going to pay for that.” She said.

“If you could hurt me, you would have by now.” Winter replied, her eyes widening with intensity. Spectacular noticed now that two M9s were in the other woman’s hands. “Now, the knife was a good move, and I know these bullets won’t hurt you.” She said. “But what about the flying lady?” She asked, turning and firing.

“NO!” Spectacular said, but she was too late, watching as three of the fired rounds tore through Anderson’s wings.

The woman started to plummet to the ground.
