Green fire lanced out at the speeders as they darted around the blockade runner. Hired thugs, paid killers, bounty hunters and professional bodyguards all met their deaths. But as the Corvette moved off from the gutted entrance of the Hutt’s Hall things became much more difficult. Though little difference in size existed between the luxury repulsor skiff and the Corellian Corvette, the Hutt’s vessel was at least twice as manoeuvrable than the following Corvette in even Nar Shaddaa’s thin atmosphere.
Traffic was an obstacle; Shaggy got a clear shot maybe once every ten seconds through the swarms, not enough to slow the craft, not nearly enough to disable it.
Genghaar, realising his advantage bellowed an order and with all the care and grace characteristic of the Hutt race the teardrop shaped vessel bulldozed it’s way through the traffic with no regard, scattering the vehicles ahead and sending them spinning away into the path of the Oath. It was all Lynch could do not to hit anything. He stuttered something unsavoury as the Hutt ship lengthened it’s lead.
Then the skiff opened fire.
The tumult of red darts battered the forward shields of the Oath with little effect, they weren’t Lynch’s worry. The golden blossom that had, a moment been a fuel tanker wasn’t either. It was the repulsor bus caught in the blast that went crashing down into the depths below that had his full attention.
“Get a tractor on it!” He yelled, his stutter thankfully deserting him. “Now!”
Shaggy roared something back and did as he was told.

By the time the bus lay safely on the pavement, it’s shaken passengers puddleing out of the doors, the Hutt’s vessel had gone.

I wish I had my armor....

Arson looked back up at the ship, then to the Jedi, then back up to his freighter. Someone needed to secure the landing area. Some of the Jedi were already charging in. Arson turned and grabbed the one closest to him.... it happened to be the angry one, Duke.

"Don't follow them in, we need to keep the levac area clear for when they return."

Arson continued to fire, but his pistol was slowly running out of charge. That's when he heard Sal from above. "Hey Arson - this might help!" He looked up in time to see his assault rifle heading for him. He caught it, and quickly turned it setting the stock on his shoulder. He continued to fire, going to a knee. With fewer Jedi still with him he wanted his profile as small as possible.

As Goral spotted the Oath flying overhead, he stopped, mouth open.

"Shavvit! They left without me!"

He went off running in its direction, not knowing what good it would do. But shortly after, he heard the sound of gunfire - and lightsabers! They were still here! He ran faster, and around a corner, there was the Jedi, at least one, and - the clone.

And of course, most importantly, a beat-up freighter typical of those always nearby in any spaceport.

As he approached, he heard a voice from inside the ship. "Hey Arson - this might help!" followed a blaster rifle, which the clone, his name was Arson, Goral thought.

A dead guard lay next to him, a black hole scorched in him, and grasping a usable blaster rifle. A little effort got it out of his hands, and soon Goral was getting close in, firing at the few guards left.

"What happened now?" he shouted.

It wasn't Reysha's style to go looking for trouble, but this time it came to him. Instead of safely sitting out the fight below on the corvette, watching the Oath chase the Hutt's skiff through the streets of Nar Shadda, Reysha found himself on a swoop, hurtling at breakneck speed through Nar Shadda's busy streets...

As soon as Lynch saw what the skiff was planning (and after he uttered some very choice words), he sprang into action, yelling out orders.

"Senesca! Krull! Progg! Get to the swoops, and after that bus!"

Lynch turned to face Reysha.

"You! Any good with a swoop?"

"Well, yeah, i guess s-"

"Then get going with them!"

As Reysha raced out of the bridge, a flash from a tanker explosion filled the viewport, and Lynch shouted more orders, accompanied by a Wookie roar. Reysha followed the three crew members as they made their way to the cargo hold where the speeders were kept. He took the last one availiable, an older Mobquet Zephyr-G. The cargo hatches opened, and the four men sped off in pursuit of the Hutt.

The skiff left a path of overturned and burnt vehicles, so the trail was not hard to pick up. Several times Reysha thought he caught a glimpse of the skiff in the distance, but it very well could have been the sun playing tricks on his eyes. Either way, the trail of destroyed traffic died out, leaving a choice of two broad avenues to pick from.

"Krull, you come with me. We'll take the left fork, you guys go right," said the one Lynch called Senesca. "Keep in contact, and notify the Oath if you find anything."

Senesca and Krull zoomed down the left-side avenue, leaving Reysha with the man called Progg.

"Well, suppose we get going then."

Progg grunted in reply.

Ooc: you call that dedication… hey Cam… tell the man how long we’ve been play’in space cowboy while I think up something wittier to say.
Hmm… ar… erm… ur… Spoons. And er… Monkeys. Yes. Monkeys.

… Well then. It’s time to get my evils lined up properly I suppose… give the plot somewhere to go.

Ic:

Half a continent away the Hutt’s transport settled on a landing pad.

Noting the carbon scoring on the vehicles sides, Keres left one of her fellows with the Trandorshan Door guards to help the Hutt from his Skiff and quickly made her way to Genghaar’s audience chamber and her own master.
She and the twenty others in the master’s service all wore robes of the finest red silks and hooded cloaks of the deepest blue velvet, all of the Jedi cut but of far richer materials than would have ever been allowed before… before the end? Before the beginning? She didn’t know any more.

She could barely even remember her own name, her real name, not the one that he’d given her, she new that wasn’t quite right but… but he had saved her. That she knew for certain.
Something else she was certain of now was her duty as a soldier in the master’s army, his disciple, one of the twenty.
A servant of the man who now stood before her. She waited until he acknowledged her presence and put down his book before speaking.

“Master, the Hutt has returned. His transport is damaged.”
“I know.” Said the man who held himself a Lord of the Inquisition. His robes were like her own but of a darker, more bloody hue and the cuffs of his sleeves were banded in gold. His Lightsabre he held in full view at the front of his belt. For Halik Kast a Lightsabre was not a death sentence, nor was it for his followers.
“You know master? But how.”
The blond man, no older than herself by more than five years, looked some how so much wiser as he tapped his temple twice. “Do not question, my pupil.” He told her. “Nothing in all the Jedi’s great wisdom could help them when their doom came. Not a thing of their teachings could save them. It is far better for you to remain ignorant. After all, it were not your wits that saved you.” He reminded her. “But I.”
“Yes my master.” She told him. “I will be mindful, and wary of the dangers of the wise.”

The Inquisitor chuckled atthat. “And in this you show wisdom. It appears we must all be doubly careful, or mayhap we will be able to save no others.”
That was what this whole charade of serving the Emperor was for. She knew because the master had told her so. Twenty of the Jedi Halik had been able to save from themselves so far. Twenty to keep for himself and safe from the Emperor’s hound. The Lord Vader.
And then, when they had grown enough in will and strength, they could challenge the Emperor, and restore peace to the Galaxy, real peace, not this dominion that had killed so many of her brothers and sisters.

With a man as wise and strong as the master as their leader the disciples couldn’t help but win, and if a few Jedi had to die so that they may perpetuate their lie, then so be it. The order would return to its rightful place at the head of the galaxy… in the end they would understand, once they had become one with the force. The master told her they would.

The Hutt arrived in the cavernous chamber to find the two humans stood atop his own throne. Slowly, he undulated towards them.
[Jedi have come!] The Slug roared enraged he batted aside one of his own server droids with his chunky, stubby little arms, sending it sprawling. [Jedi came when you said they would not! Asking for the information I sold to YOU! And where was your promised protection?]
“Why here of course, oh great and mighty Genghaar,” said Halik, his hands spread open in a placating gesture that matched his tone of voice. “Guarding your greater treasure, as you asked.”
[But my casino!] The Hutt protested. [I am starting to think I have under charged you for this information. No? Perhaps someone else will pay better, Perhaps the Jedi Order-]
“There is no Jedi Order!” His voice cracked like a whip on the air. Startling the Hutt and stopping him mid sentence. Slowly, deliberately, the man began to pace towards the great slug like a Nek on the hunt.
“There is only The Emperor, The Lord Vader, His Majesty’s Inquisitorius and the dead.” He spun on his heel and chuckled in an odd, high pitched way. Somehow this did nothing to dispel the tension in the room.
“Weather the dead are still breathing or not is the merest of technicalities.”
These words shocked Keres for an instant, so purposeful was the master’s speech, but then she felt his calming presence in her mind and realised it was all but a ruse, to keep the Hutt believing they still wholly served the Inquisition and the Emperor and to steer him away from discovering their true purpose.
“Keres.” He said to her now, “Go rouse the others. We are leaving.”
“Yes my Lord.”
[But I will be left defenceless, I shall have to flee… and what of my casino?]
“You have others Hutt.” He said now, his voice becoming less calm, more common elements creeping in now his servers were out of earshot. “On many, many worlds and besides, these Jedi won’t rob you, that hole needed redecorating anyway.” The Inquisitor turned to leave, almost ignoring the Hutts protests before sense dawned on him.
I can’t just leave these wretches nipping at my heels all the way to the Prize, they could tip off the Empire and if his Majesty finds out what I’m doing… what I’m hoping to do with his funding…
“I will leave you four of my best, they have all killed Jedi in the past and I dare say they will do so again. Once they’ve eliminated this threat they will return to me but until then I will release them to your service. I paid you enough to ensure that I had sole rights to this information Hutt.” He spat the last as if it were an insult. “Don’t forget it and try to get any deals, as I assure you. My men will be here to protect my interests as much as they are here to protect yours.”
And with that, Halik swept out of the room, and off towards his waiting shuttle.

OOc: Okiday, just setting up a real challenge for when we reach the Hutt proper. As the crew have no idea where he is however, it’d probably be best to pull back and consolidate, and them maybe someone can work out a way for the group to work together in finding him… maybe check out that big, pyramidal casino Pete mentioned or something.

If anyone decides they should meet this Dark Jedi try not to kill all of them.

Captain Chamberlain and the Carrack Cruiser Constance arrived outside Nal Hutta not long after he had a visitor, a suprising visitor. Director Deverin was sending someone to supervise mission. With four Jedi now involved he wanted his own ISS people to be onboard to give support and intelligence input. And that meant Captain Chamberlain would be micromanaged. Byron and Prefect Mittery Wells walked together towards his office, and the prefect was explaining his role.

"Captain, it is really quite simple, Director Deverin wants me here to assure you direct access to the more... discreet portion of the Special Services division. I can provide you with direct links to intelligence that will help you in your search. IN fact, we have some news that will effect our future efforts."

Chamberlain nodded, listening the entire time, but not liking what he was hearing. He knew bueracracy talk... and this was it at its worst. He had a babysitter. Now he had someone above him he couldn't trust, and someone below him in his first officer who was also an ISS lifer. More complicated indeed. "And that would be?"

"In more private quarters Captain."

The two continued in silence to the office, where they took a seat on either side of Chamberlain's desk. "Now Prefect, what is this complication?"

"The Imperial Inquisition has gotten involved. They are a more or less independent branch of Imperial Intelligence something outside of our jurisdiction. They are the Emperor and Lord Vader's private tools for operations that interest them. They are also said to be taught in many of the same arts as Lord Vader. Where there are Jedi, they are there."

"So then why are we involved at all?" Chamberlain asked.

"Simple," Wells answered, "The Inquisition is secret, and quite illegal especially in regards to those with Jedi powers. Their involvement in all this will be covered up on the end, and moved to us. We are the official wing of this investigation."

"So put on a show and stay out of the way?" Chamberlain asked, disgusted.

Wells shook his head. "Not quite. The department is new, and the powers that be would like it to be successful. THe Director wants us to beat the Inquisiton to our targets and nab them before they do."

Chamberlain crooked his brow. This was beyond stupidity... "SO we'll be fighting the Jedi and another of our service divisions?"

"Correct, but violence between our factions should be avoided at all costs."

Chamberlain nodded... should be.... yes.... we will see about that. "Are your intel teams deployed on Nar Shadda?"

"Yes, we had cells there and they have been occupied. The Jedi have been tracked to the palace of Genghaar the Hutt... they are engaged in aggressive negotiations. Even their corvette is involved in aerial assault."

"Subtle..." Chamberlain said sarcastically. "And the Inquisition is there as well?"

"Aye... they mean to ambush the Jedi or so our spy tells us." Wells answered.

Chamberlain nodded. "Let them show themselves now, while we lurk in the shadows. We will act when it is prudent, not before, not after."

Wells looked unhappy with the statement but nodded. "As you wish Captain, you are, after all in command of this mission."

Arson's transport swung in low, lower than the Oath would have been able to manage. Like virtually every other starship on or around Nar Shaada, it also had weapons. Turreted laser cannons opened fire on the skiffs and speeders that were now buzzing around the area. The hutt, it seemed, had his own private army. Not surprising, really.

"Don't follow them in," Arson said as Jarin and a well dressed young man went charging odd into the bowels of the palace. His voice was calm and clear despite the nerve wracking battle. "We need to keep the evac area clear for when they return."

With the Oath off chasing the hutt, and with the arrival of more and more thugs intent on killing Jedi, Drevon grudgingly came to a conclusion. It was time to leave... and they were going to have to use the clone's ship to do it. The habits and way of thinking that had allowed him to survive the clone war and the treachery of Palpatine's army made themselves known.

"Agreed," he replied, sabers whirling franticaly to fend off an every increasing volume of incoming fire. "We can't stay here any longer... blast it Jarin, what the hell were you thinking?" Drevon shook his head. It didn't matter what the boy had been thinking, all that mattered was the fact that he needed to get back to the center hall immediately. "Master Jolturn!" He shouted over the din of battle to the most experienced Jedi of the group, "This fight is over! Cameo and I will stay here with the clone to keep the LZ clear, you retrieve Jarin and his friend!"

With a nod, Jolturn raced off after the wayward padewan. "That ship can't land with most of the roof intact," Drevon told Arson. He twitched his shoulder away just in time to avoid it getting taken off by a stray blaster bolt. He spared a meaningful glance at the clone, "And I don't want to risk trying to run from cover to meet it outside." The intent of Drevon's words was clear to both of them - the roof had to go.

Moments later, most of it did go, vaporized by barrages from the hovering transport. What didn't turn into rapidly dispersing gas fell to the floor of the hall, burning, molten, and smoking. By a stroke of luck - or by careful calculation on the part of the transport's gun crew - the wreckage missed hitting any friendlies as it fell to earth.

Nearby, Cameo followed a flash of inspiration. Reaching out with his free hand, he used the force to shove piles of burning wreckage against the nearest door. Knowing a good strategy when he saw one, Drevon followed suit. Soon every entrance save the windows and the doorway Jarin had gone through were blocked. "Shoulda thought of that sooner," Drevon muttered to himself.

With the exits blocked, it took mere moments for the thugs trapped in the hall to go down. An eerie silence descended, punctuated by the shriek of the transport's weapons turrets and the roar of her repulsors as she set down in the hall. The boarding ramp was invitingly open, with a crewmember standing there waving for them to get the hell aboard.

It had been only a minute since Jolturn had left, but it seemed like hours had passed. As the non Jedi boarded the ship, Drevon looked hard at the still unblocked doorway. What was taking them?
"Ah, my lord, is that... legal?"
"I will make it legal."

The Force presence of Jarin stood out like a beacon of light amidst darkness. Jolturn flung himself towards the entry hole Jarin had created. With a roll he landed on the other side only to be halted by the hall’s walls that took an abrupt turn to the right. Not far from him were Jarin and another man, a man he had seen briefly during their briefing, Fashion he believed the man was called.

The Vulture droids in front of them explained why they hadn’t returned, they were pinned down. Even a Jedi couldn’t deflect fire from Vulture droids and simultaneously protect someone while retreating. There were limits as far as one could go, and although the padawan seemed to be holding himself up quite well it wouldn’t last forever.

Pillars and statues that had given them cover in the main hall were absent in this hall, only a large duracrete support pillar behind the Vulture droids was usable for cover. He ran towards the Padawan and Rebel when an idea struck in his mind.

He threw his lightsaber hilt towards the Vulture droids and activated it in mid air, steering it with the Force. Their targeting computers took notice of the incoming threat and started firing upon the lit lightsaber. Blaster fire ricocheted in all directions as the spinning blade made its way towards its targets. Just before impact the blue bundle of energy disappeared as Jolturn released the saber’s dead mans switch with the Force.

Jarin and Fashion spared him a sideways glare that told him what the frell are you doing. The droids targeting computers started reacquiring their targets but the time it took them was enough. Drawing on the Force once more he reached out for the support pillar. At molecular level he broke the pillar lose and pulled it towards him. With a thud it crashed on the droids reducing them to mere rubble.

“Let’s go, the Hutt has escaped. There’s a ship hovering about outside.” Jolturn said as he reached out with the Force one last time to retrieve the lightsaber of his old padawan.

It took them a minute to get outside and towards the ship, with relative ease they reached the ship since the evac zone had been cleared of any hostiles.

They saw Cameo and Drevon enter the ship before entering themselves. Arson was the last to board the ship. “We’re in lift off.” Arson yelled through his comm. the ship veering of into the Vertical city’s night.

“Thank you my friend.” Jolturn said, patting Arson on the shoulder. “Everbody alright?” He asked the ones present near the ramp.

Jarin sat aboard the ship that Arson had called down from somewhere, the fire and fog of battle draining out of him. He felt an odd mixture of triumph and shame, knowing that the sharp gleam of joy during the fight was tied to his ability to take life, to delve deep into the essence of war and conflict and bathe himself fully in the guidance of the Force. And then he had thoughtlessly overreached himself, acting beyond his capabilities and placing another being in unnecessary danger. The Padawan recalled a similar moment in the Temple.

***

Jarin lay back on the medical bed, watching the droids place the bacta patches on his injured leg. He tried not to think at all, preferring his mind to be blank rather than dwell on what had just happened. The youth knew that his fellow Padawan, Mu’rina, was in the adjacent room, suspended in a bacta tank due to the surface burns that covered her entire left side.

The door hissed open and Meklur Aren walked in. Jarin knew that he should remain silent and wait for his master’s rebuke, but his tongue seemed to take a mind of its own as he propped himself up on his elbow.

“Master Aren, I thought that I could complete – ”

“Silence.”

It was not a loud command, but Master Aren infused the word with such potency that Jarin fell back to the bed, his fourteen-year-old mind awhirl with all the thoughts he had stringently refused to acknowledge before now. Meklur faced the window, his back to Jarin.

“You neglected to consider the abilities of Mu’rina. You pursued the goal by yourself, thinking only of the objective and not the well-being of your comrade. You lost sight of the need to work together. Selfishness such as that is a quick road to the Dark Side and death. Be grateful that this occurred in the presence of myself and Mu’rina’s master. Otherwise, you would both have died and accomplished nothing. Foolishness!

The Jedi turned to face his apprentice. “Let this be a lesson to you that you never forget. Now, we will speak no more of this.”

***

The congratulations and back-slapping after a successful fight were making the rounds of the ship. Jarin tried to grin back at Arson and Cameo as they recounted what had happened in their areas of the battle.

I failed. I failed again. The Dark Side pulls at me… fear, conflict…

I failed.
Madness, I tell you. We need more pirates.

Arson smiled as the ship lifted off and away from the Hutt's palace. What the Jedi hadn't noticed was the explosive pack Sal had passed down to him along with the blaster rifle. The explosive pack he had placed near one of the palace's support pillars as the Jedi boarded. He liked to think of it as a going away present for the Hutt and his men.

Arson nodded to Master Jolturn who patted him on the shoulder, and smiled. "Not a problem, now.... watch this."

On his commando team, not a suprise considering his name, Arson's expertise was demolitions. This gave him joy. He hit the trigger which was installed on his assault rifle and the explosive pack blew. The shock wave even shook the freighter, which was almost 75 meters up. "Don't worry, no one will be following us out."

Arson turned and sealed the exit hatch, and walked in. "Welcome to the Gambit. This is Sal." Arson motioned to the young man at the hatchway that lead to the rest of the ship. If he was twenty he looked young for his age. He was wideyed seeing all the Jedi together. Arson continued. "Daa'luk is piloting the ship in the cockpit. These men saved my life on Sluis Van... and they are friends of the Jedi, you can trust them. Let me show you inside to the lounge."

Arson walked past the Jedi and lead them to the small common room with the Dejarik table and a miriad of couches... and most importantly a small bar. Arson went their immediately and poured himself a small glass of COrellian Gin. In the corner next to the bar in a small pile lay Arson's ARC armor. He put his blaster pistol and blaster rifle on top of it. "Anyone want a drink? And where do you want Daa'luk to take us?"

Snipe watched palace explode with a gusto he recognized all too well.

Arson...

And then he saw the all too familiar shape of the freighter depart through the billowing smoke. Snipe smiled.

Like following bread crumbs...

He looked back to the Jedi starfighter he arrived in, the one that once belonged to Master Tiku. And now there was an added bonus, there were Jedi with him.

Order 66....

The directive still echoed in his head.

All Jedi must die. He turned and jumped into the starfighter, and prepped for takeoff.

Ic:
Litan glanced at the troubled looking Jedi and shook his head. Things hadn’t gone at all well, the Hutt’s reaction had been wrong, too wrong, something was defiantly going on.
’Well duh!’ some sarcastic little corner of his brain told him, and so he went about the task at hand.
Pulling a med-kit from the wall he saw to the small cuts a grazes that Cleo had picked up in the skirmish before applying a bacta patch to the tare he’d picked up on his cheek. After he was finished he handed it to Fashion and, patting Cameo on the shoulder as he passed headed for the Clone.
“Hey er… Arson!” He called, using the Clone’s (he still couldn’t think of him as just a man) name for the first time.
He turned towards Litan, and first in portrait then in profile Litan could see no difference between this clone and any of the others he’d known from Dofett down to the lowliest grunt except… no, there was nothing, not even in the eyes. Fighting down a surge of loathing he offered the clone his hand.
“Listen, I know I haven’t been nice to you and I don’t regret that. I may still not in the future, and although this is all…” he gestured to the ship around him, “a little convient you held your own and pulled us all out of the fire with this rescue. I just wanted to say thanks.”
“Your welcome.” Said the clone, in the manner of all clones and an inperceptable shiver ran up Litan’s spine as he took the man’s hand.
“Now why don’t you introduce me to this ships comm so we can rondevous with the Oath and work out where to go from here?”

OOc: This is not to say the Arson was not without personal inflection or warmth at all in his greeting, it’s just that Litan is that prejudiced against him and his kind… which probably means he's more than a little afraid of him.

ooc Arson is usually not all that friendly or personable - clones usually arent,

In other words, perfectly played!

IC

Arson nodded. "This way." He lead him to the cockpit, drink in hand. They didn't trust him yet, and that was understandable. Arson still didn't trust himself. Daa'luk was busy leading the ship out of the atmosphere but he did tilt his head to acknowledge the two entering. The Zabrak, from what Sal told him was naturally sour, but since they found Diena he had been all but unapproachable.

"What do you want grunt?"

"This is Litan." Arson answered just as coldly. "He needs to use the comm, we have a rendevous to make."

Daa'luk said something under his breath in his native tongue, but tapped a few buttons and waved the man forward.

"Do your worst."

What's going to be the subtitle for Spaceport Patrol part II?
Are we even going down that lane, because we've had some pretty descent sub title's but then again we've also haven't.

ooc: We need to keep that tradition... it makes archiving it slightly easier.
I'll think up something snappy latter... then someone else can think up something snappier and we'll use that... i may not be able to post again tonight, my eyes are going a bit funny.

Spaceport (I like it better as one word, that way it stays SP) Patrol, Part II: Jedi Get Funky.

I like that.
