Star Citizen Gamescon 2016

Post by Pryde »

Wow. This is incredible. I thought this game looked amazing before but holy hell. Land anywhere on planets just like No Man's Sky? I had no idea planets were going to be so large. I figured there were just going to be set places you can land but apparently not. Also, landing's not on rails, unlike No Man's Sky, which is really cool. It's kind of depressing not being able to fly closer to the surface of a planet on NMS or whiz down Beggar's Canyon like I used to do in my T-16 back home... >.>

Also, and this is by far the coolest thing I've seen in a multiplayer space game, seamless transition from spaceflight to EVA. In fact, seamless transition for everything, no load screens. It's so hard to be immersed in a game like Elder Scrolls every time you open a door and are hit with a load screen. >< But seriously, though, EVA!!! You could space your buddy in an asteroid field then just leave him... Not that I would ever do that, of course. I mean, I'm the nicest person I know. >.>

I've already ordered it, only to discover that my computer can't run it.

Oh well. Guess I'll have to save up for a new computer ;)

The Mustang looks really cool but I like the idea of being a free trader/smuggler so I might go with the Aurora.

Also, the Aurora is the name of Scarlett's ship so maybe it's destiny.

Got the Aurora too :)

Though I'll probably save up for a bigger ship once in-game.

I hadn't realized how small the Aurora is. It looked big on the website but it's literally just a pilot seat and a bed on the inside. I'll have to work on getting a bigger ship when the game releases--some time in 2035... >.>

I looked into this last night. It looks cool as hell, plus I love the fact that its all real time, no porting around the universal at the blink of an eye.

I watched the Syfy Con video and I'm intrigued. Do they have actual working missions and things to do in the game right now?

Admittedly, I haven't followed the game for some time, but I've known about it forever. I know they've got a beta(?) going on right now(?) for those who've preordered or whatever. I know a couple people who have that, played around a little with one's copy.

But, don't know if they've added payable missions to that, or if you can jump in or if we who did not preorder have to wait for the final release.

Well, apparantly you can get in...judging from the site...and can buy packages that include ships for various degrees of dollars, from like $45 all the way up to $5000 ('huge' ship) and access. But I found it kinda ambiguous whether there is actual content available. I'd love to try it.

Huh. My friend was under the impression the whole package deal phase was over.

I'm going to need to go and buy one, now.

If I'm not mistaken, though, the game comes with the ship (or vice-versa, if you prefer). Don't remember if the single player campaign (Squadron 42) was being marketed as a separate game, or not, though. I don't think it was, since they were talking about playing it influencing the grander Star Citizen game some time ago.

This game looks out of control...completely. I'm curious as to what importance your starting ship will play in all of it. I'd look fighter pilot first, kinda a given I'd guess, so Avenger probably but that's expensive so start out small. Still...game looks amazing.

Supposedly the Aurora is nice for a starting ship because you get the bed compartment. That's how you save your "check point" in the game. You go to sleep. I'd like to get one of the bigger multi-crew ships, though. It was really cool seeing the turret turn independently of the ship. There's a helluva lot of detail and moving parts in this game.

I want to say the Aurora was the ship I got to fill around with when I was at my stepbrother's. It's not a bad little craft.

Given they have about 140 million to make the game I'd hope it's got a lot of detail to it. I was looking at a few options but we'll see when the time comes.

I think maybe we should consider banding together, at least those of us who have no better alternatives. In that regard, I could see my company being either dissolved or a subsidiary/member of the Red Star Alliance.

Decided to test if they had improved the game enough to be able to play it on mid-end machines.

Short answer: They haven't.

Ten minutes into the game, I had walked with a constant stutter in my step, and my Aurora was spinning out of control around Port Olisar when I logged out.

How can a company make a game worth nearly $100 million, if not more, and not make sure you can run it well on a mid-end machine? Obviously, they don't realize that most of those who pledged to the game does not have (or can afford) high-end machines.

Conclusion: Until I get a high-end machine (or they fix this issue - which will never happen), Star Citizen and I are simply not to be

Based on what I've seen since their initial announcement going forward, their aim was to market to people with no less than higher-than-average PCs. At least, that was the notion I've always had. Honestly, it's the primary reason why I bought one such desktop computer. (Though, I suppose I should check on the system requirements again to make sure it'll still run it okay before I make a financial move.)

So... no postage. Win-win!

I checked online again, my computer can still run it. Now I just need to figure out if I found just seeing for the Aurora and call it good, or go a little father. I have an idea as to what I'd want to do in game, I'm just not sure the approach I'll take.

Probably similar to EvE? I know it's possible to purchase capital ships, but I'm not sure how they'll work. Like does every gun need to be manned? Or are some of them automated? Also, are you stuck flying the thing from first person or can you change to third? I'm sure the answers are out there, just too lazy to look right now. :P

Any un-manned guns will be automated, I believe. And you can switch view.

For any interested:

I'll be banding with a friend of mine (some may remember him, my longtime "partner in crime" Trai Kanossi) and doing... whatever it is we settle on doing. I don't know if I'll bring Cadden into the SC universe or not, and if so if he'll even be a bounty hunter. Our initial plan was to be explorers, but we're toying with being merchants and/or pirates and/or bounty hunters and/or mercs... or... something. We don't know just yet. We'll be playing it by ear, see what we gravitate to in the game. But, whatever it'll be, we'll be doing it together. Unlikely all the time, though, so if timing and location permits I'll join whoever from here from time to time.

EvE did have a full VR set up called Valkyrie and you would be in the same universe as the full online EvE players and going into battles. The landing on planets never came to fulfillment which was a bummer but all The different things you can do in EvE is still what draws people. Now with the Alpha and Omega clones and the free to play, things might change yet again.

So I don't know what your PC specs are but my machine is rather solidly what I would call mid-range

1155 I5 core clocked somewhere around 3 gig
12 gig of ddr3 ram
a P55 EVGA main board
500 gig Samsung EVO 850 ssd with the game loading off my 1TB 7200 WD Blue drive
970 GTX Nvidia

I can run the game at 1080P with all the details turned up to max with only a little stutter and when I drop those down to midrange it's butter smooth and gorgeous. Before I upgraded to the 970 GTX I had a 470GTX and it ran mostly smooth but really reved the fan on the card up. I'm actually looking at upgrading my rig again in the near future in preparation of getting a VR rig next year so if you'd be interested in some well cared for second hand parts I could probably hook you up. I'm seriously eyeballing a 1070GTX once they aren't so rare but I've got a ATI 290 as well that I had prior to the 970GTX.

Anyway, if anyone wants to fly around and blast some pirates with me in my Connie look me up. Also if you wanna join the RSA you can and still do your own thing since their affiliation system for that kinda thing is really flexible and allows you to be a member of multiple groups.

Yeah, they've never once, to my knowledge, said it's going to be a subscription-based game. Trai has been following them more closely than I have, and he would have dais something if that were the case.
