Enemy Mine..The Great Experiment

Post by Nichalus » Thu May 12, 2011 9:47 am

Nichalus stood on the bridge of the Viscount, personally he hated the name and would be changing it very soon. He had transfered his flag here due to the usual reasons that the Admiral should always lead from the largest ship in the fleet, though usually he didn't follow such protocols, the Viscount did provide for a better command structure for the fleet.

The viewpoints around the command center were blurred with the lightstreaks associated with Hyperspace, as Nichalus turned his command seat slowly around the bridge, and the bussell of activity as they approached the redezvous coordinates.

His XO stepped up and handed him the duty roster, along with department reports. Nichalus peered at them closely and nodded his approval and signed off on them. Handing the pad back to the XO, he marvelled at his crew and officers. He had yet to inform them of what lied ahead for this mission, but he had not heard of any doubt or questions concerning why. Nichalus smiled very slightly with the knowledge that they were probably all content to just be actually active again.

Nichalus's slight smile was also due to the fact that he did know what lied ahead, and it would be an excellent test for both officers and crew.

"Reversion to normal space in 5 minutes Admiral.". His XO reported from his position at the Nav Control Station.

Nichalus merely nodded his affirmative to him and them stood from his command seat. "XO upon reversion, immediately send to the fleet to execute a Delta V formation, with the Viscount at the lead. Launch Red Squadrons Alpha through Echo and have Ordin match squadrons."

"Squadrons are to form forward port and starboard of the Viscount and hold position. Relay to all ships to go to Yellow Alert upon formation complete."

The XO looked at him with a quizzical expression, and Nichalus cut his eyes sharply to him, which prompted the XO to jump to his station and prep the fleet wide message before they fell from hyperspace.

The blackness of space was suddenly awash with flashes of brilliant light as the Red Dagger Fleet exited hyperspace. Their gleaming hulls with giant crimson daggers painted down their hulls, quickly began assuming their positions per the emergency flash message sent from the Viscount upon reestablishing communications after exiting hyperspace.

Nichalus surveyed the execution of the orders with a mixture of respect and stoicism. He was not exactly displeased with the result, but there was some work to be done.

"Sir, all ships and squadrons report they are in position. Area scans report there are no other ships in the vincinity. Ships are reporting all stations at yellow alert."

Nichalus nodded and then took a look at his chromometer, and gave the XO a raised eyebrow.

The XO looked straight ahead, and did not offer an excuse, which Nichalus respected.

"Your orders Admiral." The XO asked.

"Wait for it..." Nichalus couldn't quite hide the slight smirk on his lips.

Jerec hadn't felt a capital ship in hyperspace for a long time. It felt exhilarating but then again Dreadstar was playing his hand close to the chest. What he was planning Jerec didn't know but he trusted him as he had trusted Damus. As they came out of hyperspace he'd look out the viewport as they fell into position. "Yellow alert and have starfighters on standby but don't launch."

Things were running through his head. "What are you planning what are you planning...." He was trying to think what Dreadstar would be thinking and then stopped himself and took a deep breath. "Take it easy Jerec... Last time you tried thinking like Dreadstar you nearly became a slave to the AI within the suit... Trust in what Dreadstar's doing and follow his lead."

Looking around it was a new bridge one he wasn't accustomed to but the crew worked as efficiently. It'd take some time to get used to still. When Nich had told him they were going back to the NR he while not expecting it had been suprised they weren't going to try and put the fleet on trial or at least him.

Clasping his hands behind his back all he could do was wait.

A man stood with his hands clasped behind his back watching the stars streak by in lines of pure blue as his ship thrust itself through hyperspace towards their destination. The crew probably thought the tall human with black flowing short hair was planning for an upcoming fight but what he was really doing was reflecting on his life. As a young boy he had always excelled in strategy games, from an old game designed by his ancestors called chess and to the more popular sabac that many played in seedy establishments. When the boy graduated primary school and took his first steps into adulthood he joined the Imperial Navy. It had seemed like the thing to do at the time as that's what most of his friends were doing, if not the navy some other form of the Imperial machine.

Quickly rising to the top of his class the young man graduated with top honors and was sent to the unknown regions to serve. He had learned much from the blue skinned red eyed strategist who at the time was in control of the Unknown Regions sector fleet. How to study and learn what your opponent would do even before the fight had begun. This had led the man to transfer into the Imperial Intelligence as a black ops task force. His first assignment was a salvage operation of a very special nature. Those pieces of salvage, however unknown to him at the time, would soon be turned into the very ship he now commanded.

As Emperor Damascus took power it wasn't good for your health to be in Imperial Intelligence as the bastard jumped at the slightest hint of betrayal. Switching back into the Navy the man then 24 was given command of an entire fleet. Not just any fleet but one of the most famous fleets in the entire Imperial Navy. He was sure many in the hierarchy did not approve but it was the previous Admirals wishes and those were usually carried out unless extreme circumstances stopped them. Throughout the reign of Damascus the man and his fleet defeated key enemy fleets even wiping out the Imperials enemies command fleet and an entire sector fleet. Sadly during the battle of Corellia his fleet but not his ship and him participated in the battle. Losing almost every ship in his fleet was hard on him and he asked to be transferred back into Intelligence and into a deep cover operation in the unknown regions. With his original mentor return from the Unknown Regions he took over command of the sector fleet and took off where his mentor had left. It was at this point that the man had started to question what exactly the Empire stood for.

From this point forward he used his rank and status not only in the Navy but also in Imperial Intelligence to distance himself from command. He fell off the radar and with a few viruses here and there his ships disappeared from many of the Imperial databases. He was sure that the Grand Admiral and several of the Imperial Intelligence top brass kept track of him as best they could but it had come to an understanding that as long as he continued to serve the best interests of the Empire he would be left alone.

A frown came upon his face as he regretted not being able to help fight the Xen'Chi but he had his hands full holding back numerous threats people of the core worlds didn't even know existed that his mentor and now he had fought since the rise of Emperor Palpatine. As the Xen'Chi were beaten back his mentor had called him back to the core with a very big surprise in store.

The man wasn't sure what would happen next in his story but he was sure that future cadets would be reading about it in the history books when all was said and done. One thing he did know was that Hell's Kitchens objective for being built was nearing creation and the ghost of the 105th would return once again.

"Inquisitor we are coming out of hyperspace in 60 seconds." Nodding towards the crewman in the pit he slowly glanced around his bridge before taking his seat in his command chair he nodded at his XO who was looking at him with a Are you sure about this? look on his face. Smiling the man returned his attention to the helmsman as he counted down for their reentry from hyperspace.

"10, 9, 8, 7..." Raising his voice above the helmsmen the man said, "Lets go in dark people. Prep the fighters in the bay but do not launch. Have our shields ready to go up on my command but do not raise them upon reentry. Relay that as soon as we come out."

"3, 2, 1, Reentry."

The man watched as the stars started to slow and then focus in smaller lines before suddenly snapping into small bright pricks of lights. "Give me a sensor sweep of the area. Relay a message back to command letting them know we are here, pipe all the data we are getting back to base. Turn on the speakers throughout the ships, I want everyone to hear themselves making history."

Gripping the seat he sighed before issuing the next command. Looking out the viewport he used his eyes to find the ship he was looking for before saying, "Comm contact the Viscount and inform them we have arrived."

Jerec would step back seeing the ship coming out of hyperspace. He'd look to check to see if the Interdictor was running hot that would cause the ship that just came out of hyperspace to fall out and confirmed that it wasn't on which ment the Admiral had something planned. The viscount which prior to Nich taking back the fleet Jerec had renamed The Mansar but in private the ships name was Mansar's Vengence recived a transmission from the craft. "Identify the name of that Star Destroyer out there for me."

"Infinity's Kiss sir..." the Communications officer would speak up and Jerec would curse. "Fuck me.. The 105th... Last we saw them was at Corellia but I don't remember seeing her there. What are you really planning Admiral?"" He'd finally say aloud that some of the crew actually heard him. "Shields remain on standby and keep the fighters in the hot seat and be prepared for a quick launch. Either side jumps the trigger to fast this could become unnecessarily ugly and we don't want that right now... We don't know the full strength of the 105th cause we've been in the dark since Corellia."

"What did there messege intail?" Jerec would finally ask and his comm officer would look up, "That they have arrived."

"That sly bastard... Dreadstar's playing way to much Dejerick. He's plotting 10 moves ahead." He'd realize the fact and actually relax a bit. "He knows what he's doing we just have to trust Dreadstar and remind ourselves he's one of ours. We've just been in hiding way to long."

Nichalus looked around the bridge and saw the look of shock that had taken over every face there. Then they would look to Dreadstar and see is calm and stoic face looking back at them, their faces would flush and then they would turn their attention back to their work.

"Easy everyone." Nichalus calmly said for everyone to hear. "Tactical...report."

"Scanned and identifications have confirmed it is the Infinity's Kiss and her compliment of ships sir. That is most definately the 105th Fleet out there. Their shields are down, and no fighters have been launched."

Nichalus merely nodded at the report. The communication officer stepped up quickly and handed him a datapad with the message from the Infinity's Kiss. Nichalus smiled slightly and handed the pad back to the officer, who then returned to his station.

"Comm, open a hailing frequency, and patch it through to the fleet for all to hear." Nichalus then stood, and stepped to the holoprojector pad. He looked to the comm officer and nodded his head.

"Admiral Capri, it has been ..some...time since we last saw one another. I am glad to see you and your famous fleet are alive and well."

"Comm contact the Viscount and inform them we have arrived."

Several tense seconds of silence filled the bridge as the entire crew of the Infinity's Kiss and the entire 105th Imperial Fleet waited for Red Dagger to make their response, be it with lasers or with words. Capri wasn't a gambling man but if Dreadstar was anything like he used to be he wouldn't fire the first shot.

Looking down at his console on his command chair he saw the light brighten as communication was being established. Rising from his chair he stepped onto the holodeck while nodding to his comms officer.

"Admiral Capri, it has been ..some...time since we last saw one another. I am glad to see you and your famous fleet are alive and well."

Nodding towards the holoimage of Dreadstar, Capri replied, "Indeed it is good to see you as well Admiral Dreadstar, it has been quite some time. I am glad to see Red Dagger Fleet wasn't completely destroyed as reports would have us believe. I am glad we could meet under better circumstances than the previous encounter between our two storied fleets."

It had been Lucas's first year at the Imperial Academy when he had first met Nichalus who at the time was in his last year. Nichalus was one of the few chosen to participate in an elite program for future ship commanders. Each day Nichalus was presented with a mission in the simulators, be it commanding one ship or an entire fleet. Usually the first years watched as the cadets who had been chosen completed their assignment. Several weeks into the year Nichalus had returned to the simulator room late one evening only to find Lucas running through each of the assignments that had been completed prior that day. Watching for several minutes as Lucas easily beat the computer AI Nichalus decided to take command of the forces arrayed against the young first year cadet. The two battled for several hours without Lucas realizing he was actually commanding against Nichalus. When the list of assignments had been completed Lucas stepped from his pod drenched in sweat only to find a smiling drenched Nichalus staring at him from the other side of the room. Nichalus picked up his belongings and left without saying a word.

The next day Nichalus selected Lucas to command not only an Imperial-Class Star Destroyer but also the 2nd task force in his assignment. It was unheard of for a first year cadet to be picked and the Academy was abuzz afterward as the two crushed the opposing students without taking a single loss. From that point on Nichalus had selected Lucas for each and every assignment including his XO role when the assignment was to show the efficiency of running a bridge crew.

The final assignment had pitted Nichalus against Lucas as the professors thought to throw the graduating cadet off guard. Nichalus soundly defeated Lucas in his final showing at the Academy however Nichalus had never taken so many losses in a fleet engagement before.

It was some time before the two would meet again. After graduating from the Academy and being assigned to the Unknown Regions Lucas once again was commanding ships under Nichalus, however military procedure restricted Lucas from taking any key role in Nichalus command hierarchy. Lucas was not displeased by this however since he was assigned a Victory-Class Star Destroyer under Commodore Issack Radkey. Lucas soon realized that Commodore Radkey was a very competent task force commander and he assumed Nichalus has placed him there to learn from the grizzled old veteran. Lucas guessed that the Commodore was somewhere out there among Red Dagger Fleet with a large smile on his face.

Lucas had worked with Radkey and Nichalus for an entire year before being transfered to the Imperial Star Destroyer Night Warden and given command of his own taskforce. It was a month later when news had reached Lucas that Nichalus and a large portion of his taskforce had defected to the Republic. At the time it had hurt him greatly as he had respected Nichalus and couldn't fathom why he had turned traitor.

Over the years as Lucas gained rank and joined the Intelligence division he quickly realized what Nichalus had seen. Nichalus had made his choice and followed the path he thought best and Lucas had as well. Lucas had stayed in the Empire and continued to climb the ladder thinking once he was at the top he would be able to effect change that would make the Empire into what he thought it should be. He had realized recently that change only came when you cut the heart of the poison out. This was the main reason he had accepted the mission from Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Lucas hoped with Nichalus's help they could bridge the gap between the two great nations. Palpatine and later Damascus were the poison that had to be removed. They had corrupted what the Empire was really meant to be. Much like the Senate corrupted the great ideals of the Republic when someone like Palpatine could pull strings from behind the scenes and the Senate became tainted in corruption. Lucas new just as Nichalus did that there were greater threats not only within the Core but also without.

Jerec would swallow his pride and remain quiet over the comm. Already moving to a council he'd plug into the port and would begin accessing datafiles cross referencing both Dreadstar and Lucas to see what type of past they had already suspecting they had a history with the Empire. Within moments he'd see datafiles appear before him and mentally he'd access each as he tried to learn a bit from history. Jerec would keep his attention on the conversation as he downloaded the files the key point that Dreadstar and Lucas had trained together would explain alot.

The 105th was there at Corellia and though Red Dagger had taken a serious pounding many felt that the loss at Corellia should have been much worse as if the 105th was playing with Red Dagger to test Jerec's own command abilities and see what Damus had taught him prior to his retirement. This point was made by a few of the captains upon there successful escape some ships were limping but they had made it and Jerec wasn't arguing any ship that had survived. He'd mourn the lost later when they could lay down there arms and not have to worry about war and he could go and tell each family the sacrifice there son or daughter made was worth it.

He hadn't pressed the issue back then as he was recovering from surgury when he had breifed his captains and had lost his closest friend there at Corellia in the form of Captain Nilstra. He'd not connected the dots and now he was seeing a much broader picture and it was scary. Two of the best commanders of the New Republic and Imperial Fleets talking to each other like old friends. It would take a few minutes then he would look to his own XO who was suprised to see Jerec plugged in. "Think this could be a very interesting conversation that the Admiral has here. We're going to make history that has only happened once before."

Nichalus smiled slightly at the image of Capri. "Yes, I read the reports on the last meeting of our two groups. It was...interesting. To say the least." He cleared his throat and then instructed his Comm Officer to fix the image of the two Admirals to appear to be standing side by side for the rest of the Fleet's members to see.

"If I may Admiral Capri." Nichalus requested to his counterpart's image. "To the officers and crews of the 105th and the Red Dagger fleets. I'm sure that neither group needs any introductions. Today we stand on the edge of a great endeavor. One that is meant to show the galaxy, that two former enemies 'can' stand side by side and work together to the betterment of both."

"Both of our groups have storied histories, we have had our share of wins and losses. Our governments still have our disagreements on many things, but this...experiement, shows that both sides agree that the peace must be maintained."

"There are of course elements both internal and external, that would love to see our sides go back to the old ways, slugging it out against one another for sectors both big and small. To see us tear each other apart, so that they may revel in our mutual destruction, and then they can swoop in and take the very systems from us at very little cost to themselves. Or those groups that would relish the idea that our two governments will be too busy fighting with each other, so that they may do what they please without interference from us against their self serving goals."

"Let me be clear here. Our goals are to protect our worlds from harm, from both outside influences and inside. There are nefarious individuals that would seek to have us believe that there can NEVER be peace between our governments. They believe that 'they' are more deserving, that 'their' ideals of entitlement and beliefs are the right way. That in 'their' minds this tenuous peace means that we are showing weakness and complaciancy."

"We, as a group, must stand up and say...'They are wrong'.

"Before some of you actually question, or agree, with this philosophy. Let me ask you. What do we need to prove?"

"Both of our esteemed fleets have fought 'many' battles against one another and others outside our governments. We have won and lost...yet...we are 'still' here. We have purserverded when most have walked away in defeat. What more do we need to prove? None can deny the conviction of our deeds. NONE!"

"That is why our mutual governments...in their somewhat infinite wisdom...have agreed to this great experiment. Together we 'will' show the galaxy that two former enemies can work together to protect and serve the billions of lives that we have shed blood for to protect. We will show that while we were created, trained and indoctrinated to destroy one another, that we can now use that creation and training to prove that we are all capable of using this power to serve both sides to aid and protect....together."

"Members of the 105th Red Dagger Fleet, I welcome you to the future of our worlds. We are the hopes and desires, spoken and unspoken, that all our people of our worlds truly want and need." He turns to Admiral Capri. "Admiral Capri...you have the floor."

Nodding as Nichalus gave his speech to the combined crews Lucas smiled as Nichalus gave him the floor.

“Thank you Admiral Dreadstar and I echo your exact sentiment. We are no longer just an Imperial fleet or a New Republic fleet. We are something more, something better. Our ships were created for destruction and to conquer. We will use them for peace, prosperity, and to protect those who cannot protect themselves against injustice.”

“Our two fleets have fought each other several times and now I ask each and every one of you to put that aside and look to the future. We are now brothers and sisters in arms. Let it be known that anyone who wishes to conquer shall meet the might of the combined 105th Red Dagger Fleet.”

“The fleet will be split into three command groups. Admiral Dreadstar, Admiral Ordin, and I will command. The command groups will have an equal number of 105th and Red Dagger ships in them and we will start training exercises immediately to make sure our fleet works just as well together as they did apart. “

“Admiral Dreadstar will have overall command when our command groups are combined with me as his second. Admiral Ordin will take over command if both Admiral Dreadstar and I are incapacitated. We have new uniforms and a new paint scheme that will also be applied as soon as possible.”

Pictures flashed on the screen of black uniforms with red daggers on the shoulders with 105th etched into the blades followed by pictures of several different types of ships which were painted black with large red daggers with 105th etched into the blades.

“We will create a new identity for ourselves throughout the Galaxy. When a planetary government identifies a ship of the 105th Red Dagger Fleet over their planet they will know they are safe from any harm that could befall them.”

“Admiral Dreadstar and I will take the first step to show this unification of our fleets runs deeper than just words.” Motioning for an Anzat off screen to step onto the holopad Capri said, “This is Rath Seii, my loyal friend and bodyguard for the last 6 years and I offer his service to Admiral Dreadstar.”

Relinquishing the floor to Nich, Lucas watched in silence as he introduced his man.

Taking the floor once again Capri said, “As you can see both Admiral Dreadstar and I believe in this cause so much that we willingly put our lives in each other’s hands. Today is the day we make history ladies and gentleman. Generations to come will tell stories of the men and women of this fleet who put their past behind them for the future.”

Nichalus once again takes the holopad, his image nods to Capri. "Well said, Admiral Capri...'very' well said."

The XO hands him a datapad, and he taps out the codes on it. Finding the correct file, he clears his throat before reading the message.

"Both myself and Admiral Capri received this message prior to our meeting here today. It reads...."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"To the members of the Red Dagger Fleet, and the Imperial 105th. Today, we will embark on a mission that is of great importance for our governments and the people that we represent and protect.

For decades we have been at war. Millions of lives, the destruction of whole worlds, and even in some cases, the annilihation of entire planetary systems. For too long, have we fought, and our people have suffered the consequences of our differences.

We now hold on tenuiously to a fragile peace, that has held for some time now. We intend to show our people that we want that peace to endure...we need this peace to endure.

Today, we have agreed, as the leaders of your governments, to show that we will do what is necessary to preserve that peace. Together we will show that through our action today, that we will do what is necessary to prevent further bloodshed of our people. Today, we will prove that together we can do so. We must show those in our own governments that would reject and fight against such a thing, that it can be done.

With this said, we are ordering the leaders of these two distinquished fleets to join forces together, Republic and Imperial, to learn to live and fight at each others side. To protect our people, both Republic and Imperial, not as separate nations, but together as one.

We must show proof, that it can be done, and your two groups have been chosen to lead by example, this endeavor.

Speaking on behalf of our governments, we do now request that you do what is necessary to preserve the peace between our governments. You must overcome your prejudiouses, you must overcome your past combat against one another, and work as one.

In the past lies destruction, but the future holds unimaginable hope and dreams of a galaxy that work together in peace and harmony.

We know that we ask much of you all, and that you all must share a heavy burden. But for the generations that are yet to come, you must perservere in this.

Signed

Leia Organa Solo - Chief of State - New Republic

Grand Admiral Thrawn - Imperial Regent

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nichalus closed the pad, and then returned his gaze to everyone watching. "As you can see, we have been given our mission. We have been given our purpose."

"At this time, we request that any member of these groups that does 'not' believe that they can perform this mission with 100% dedication, then we ask that you inform your superior officer that you cannot do so. This will not be reflected badly upon you or your record. You will be reassigned accordingly to the next garbage transport back to your base of origin."

For a moment, Nichalus's face remains completely devoid of expression. Several members of the bridge look to him trying to determine if what he said was the truth. But then his lips move into his very well known smirk, and the crews watching the feed suddenly let out nervous laughter across the fleets.

Nichalus holds up his hand to gain attention again. "In all seriousness, I expect all of you to act in the professional manner in which I know all of your possess. We are all here for the same cause. To protect our worlds and the people who look up to us to do so."

"Admiral Capri, Admiral Ordin, I'm ordering a Senior Staff meeting at 1700 in my Ready Room, where we will discuss the formation of our fleets. Immediately following, you will hold your own Fleet Group Staff Meetings with the details from our meeting. That is all...."

Nichalus signals the Comm Officer to cut the feed. He sighs slightly. "Dear Gods....I pray this was not a huge mistake." He says quietly to himself.

Jerec would nod to Dreadstar's image and step back out of the holoprojector pad and then would begin downloading information. "I'll be back after the meeting maintain position and have the pilots stand down. We got our new orders and I doubt the Imperials will do anything with Organa's and Thrawn's blessing. We just have to hope that this works out."

He'd run past alot of the pilots as he made his way to the docking bay and would make his way to Dreadstar's ship. He'd look out at the ships there "The big experiment. It'll either succed ir fail with great glory." He'd say to himself. The history of the fleets enough made him worried but he was putting his trust in Dreadstar. He'd make his way to the meeting room and would pull out his datapad kick his feet up at the desk and relax waiting for the arrival of the others.

Capri walked silently toward the awaiting shuttle that would transport him to the command meeting on board Dreadstars ship. Walking up the ramp he yelled, "Ok lets go." while shrugging off his pack. He usually didn't take much but you never knew when you could get stuck someplace for a very long time. Palin and Seth were piloting the shuttle and would be attending the meeting with him.

Capri sat silently while the ship flew between ships pondering what the future would hold. As the ship landed Capri picked up his pack before making his way onto the deck of the landing bay waiting for Palin and Seth to catch up.

OOC: Go ahead and have them escorted to the room Nich. Capri is unarmed, Palin and Seth have their lightsabers and won't relinquish them.

After recieving the clearance codes and landing instructions, Admiral Capri's shuttle lands smoothly on the hangar deck of the Viscount. Instead of a security detail, that the Admiral might have assumed would be waiting, a Aide was waiting at the bottom of the boarding ramp. The Aide salutes crisply, and after recieving the proper response from the Admiral.

"Right this way Admiral." The Aide then leads the way to the Ready Room, where Admiral Ordin is waiting.

"General Order Number One gentlemen." Nichalus stated as he strode into the room within minutes of Capri's arrival. "We will preserve the peace, no matter the cost."

Nichalus walked around the table slowly, his hands clasped behind his back. "I believe that our leaders made that perfectly clear. We all know that their are elements inside our individual governments, those outside, that at this very moment are seeking ways to bring us back to the brink of war. I believe that our leaders have placed us together as a stop gap against that very thing. We will follow the 'guideline' of their message..."to do what is necessary"... to preserve the peace."

Moving to the head of the table, he sits down. A slither of optical cable comes from the sleeve of his military styled greatcloak, and it connects with the table's data port. Within seconds readouts and ships manifests begin to run through each of the Admiral's monitors in the table before them.

"As you can see gentlemen, we have approximately 60 ships within the fleet. We will be spliting up the fleet into thirds. Admiral Capri will of course flag from Infinity's Kiss. Admiral Ordin, I know I've been bouncing you around a bit, and I am reassigning you to the Pride. I know that you love that ship, and she you." He says the last part with a knowing grin on his lips. "She told me so."

"I of course will flag from the Viscount. I want the two of you to put your heads together, and break up the fleets evenly into our three separate groups. 'Evenly' between Imperial and Republic ships. We should have equal numbers between us all. Integrate the crews as evenly as possible."

"Questions?"

Jerec would straighten up the moment Capri would enter and listen in. He'd already begin bringing up information on the fleet setup and begin work. He'd try and hide a grin as Nich mentioned the Pride but was largely unsucessful at it. "I'll have the breakdown ready within 24 hours to present to you and Admiral Capri."

He'd slide the datapad over to Capri. "This is Red Dagger's list as it stands now. Sienar's informed me there are 15 additional ships available to us and right now Red Dagger is actually manpower heavy so we can man these ships it's just a matter of getting our men out there. We have the makings of being a very major game changer in the galaxy."

(these are the ships you mentioned to me Palin)

Scanning the datapad that Ordin had slid across the table Capri began to nod. Looking up he said to Ordin, "Everything looks good however I do have one request. I would like Commodore Radkey to be assigned to my Command Group."

Ordin smiled as he had read the reports of Capri being stationed directly under the Commodore who was at the time one of the oldest original members to defect with Nichalus from the Empire. "I don't see a problem with that." Making a few changes on his datapad he hit the send button sending the new command group compositions to Capri.

"Thank you Admiral. I will be sending Palin and Seth out to recruit several force sensitive fighter-jocks in the Empire that we have previously screened. They will be trained in the aspects of the force that will enable them to become better pilots. We still have seven X-Wings from the Dauntless(the captured MC-90) and I would like to request five to bring the squadron up to twelve."

Nichalus watched with a small hint of a smile, as the two Admirals immediately began consulting each other on ships, supplies and personell.

Looking out the window, he gazed out across the distance at the Infinity's Kiss, her enormous shape blotting out a large section of space.

**You are the one called...Dreadstar.** Came a sudden booming male voice within his mind. **You are the one quietly encrypted into our files by our Users, as an enemy of the Empire, yet you are recognized as a valued opponent. The 'Equation', also recognizes you as the 'Equation Talker'. Apparently, you are a singular lifeform, that can speak and understand our lingustics patterns.

**Yes, he is the Equation Talker. Confirmation Alpha 240.** Came another much softer, and female voice. **He is the one that speaks with the Equation Voice.

Nichalus sat is his chair, a expression of confusion and awe mixed together. To the others in the room, he appeared to be appraising the ships out the viewport.

--I can hear them Dreadstar, the lingustic program that we created is translating perfectly. As you have deducted, the former voice is Infinity's Kiss and the other is the Viscount. Caliban replied within.

For some time, the two ships spoke with one another over the distance of the ships. It was if they needed no communication channel. Between all ships, there were millions of electronic transmissions, or just their energies pulsing from around them all. These energies while naked to the eyes of sentient beings, were the energies that all scanning radars, communication arrays, etc, all picked up, or detected. Most of these signals are 'thought' to be just normal spacial static, which all electronic capture devices ignore.

But Nichalus's eyes widen slightly, as he realizes, that these signals aren't just static, but they are the machines talking to one another. That ignored static, is their voices travelling through the cosmos. Of course no human being could decypher the static sound, it was too broken, too sparse and made no logical sense with the beings that tried to figure out it's cause. Most sentients concluded that they were caused by Nebula's, or Pulsars, or nearby Black Holes, because 'that' they could explain it to their fellow scientists and people and be understood and believed by their limited minds.

But, as Nichalus marvelled at the revelation, it was their voice. Thinking about it almost boggled Nichalus's mind. The 'voices' travelled the galaxy, and it was the sentient beings that created their path of communication. For Eons, the sentients had made it possible for them all to communicate with one another. Their creator's speciies didn't matter, but the fundimental use of mathmatics and equations are common among all species in the universe.

"2 + 2 always equals 1" Nichalus said quietly and chuckled slightly. "Fascinating."

Granted, the machines couldn't subvert any of the others, because they are controlled by their creator's programming. Some machine 'mimicked' an intellegence, because they were programmed to learn, but they are 'still' limited by that very same program. There have been many examples of machine gaining a sentience such as GAIT, but even in such a extreme situation as GAIT, there were still programming issues.

It is for these reasons that machines cannot 'revolt' against their creators, or at least machines and computers that are placed on ships, built in components of housing, even down to the smallest of microprocessor. They are all built for specific purposes. Then when all these components are all combined together within a ship, or any structure, they all communicated with one another through a Central Processor, much like a human's organs and nervous system all are controlled by a brain, thus all these things, when combined, create a sentient being, or in the example of a ship a fully functional ship, who's processes, while controlled by their users, creates the functionally of a ship.

--I have to say Dreadstar, this is a 'fasinating' discovery.-- Caliban said within his mind.

Nichalus could only nod his head in agreement. All this due to his unique ability with the Force he now realizes and the ramifications involved were astonishing to even think about.

Looking through the reports and ship listing Jerec would look at them and tried to find a balance where each would have as equal in firepower as they could it just in Jerec's eyes was not looking right for some reason. "How about just taking a few ships and switching around manpower?" He'd think out loud and would try that out plugging in numbers manually he'd get frustrated he wasn't fast enough typeing out things. "This is going to take some time do you have any objections to just switching around manpower Admiral Capri? Because right now as it stands it may work the best and enable us to switch out fewer ships and would meet Admiral Dreadstars recomendations of allowing the crews to learn to work together as a team."

Capri watched as Ordin become frustrated with the numbers on the datapad and smiled in sympathy. Being an Admiral had its bonuses but paperwork was not one of them. Capri cringed as he remembered the sleepless hours pouring over paperwork and reports.

"Make the changes as you see fit Admiral. Once you are finished send them to me on board the Kiss as I have pressing matters to attend to before we leave."

With that Capri stood and left the room headed back to the hanger to the shuttle. A few minutes later the shuttle was landing in the Kiss own hanger and Capri was headed for his chambers. Reading several reports from contacts within the Empire as well as reports from Hell's Kitchen he keyed in the responses and sent them out across the galaxy to their respective receipts.

Finally reaching his chambers he sat down behind his desk and made a full report to Grand Admiral Thrawn before drafting the newest orders for the 105th fleet. Primarily the orders sending Palin and Seth on their mission. They would be leaving within the our and he wouldn't have time to say goodbye. He had planned to send Commodore Radke with them so they could be acquainted.

--6 X-Wing - Destroyed
--5 TIE Craft - Destroyed
--57 Reports - Minor Altercations
--27 Reports - Alliance Officer Insubordination to a Imperial Superior
--42 Reports - Imperial Officer Insubordination to a Alliance Superior
--2 Reports - Incident involving Fatality

Nichalus looked over the reports while Admirals Ordin and Capri stood before him at crisp attention.

The bottom most reports are what drew his most attention.

The incident involved an Imperial and Alliance pilot, both of them held excellent records, both as officers and combat duties. Unfortunately, they both lost their families to combat from opposing sides.

Capri and Ordin had managed to divide the fleets into three separated Battle Groups, with equal compliments of Imperial and Alliance officers and crew. Reading over the initial reports he was impressed by how the crews were adapting, but then his eyes would be drawn back to the blinking red letters on the report.

Both pilots were assigned to the many cooperative combat training sessions that the Admiral's had ordered. Both had appeared excited at the prospect of the training, both had demons that were hiding beneath their calm veneers of military professionalism.

No one knew what prompted the collision, some reported that the two appeared to make direct line strafing run at one another and then neither pulled out. Some reported on prior combat passes between the two seemed overly aggressive, both trading paint on these passes.

Nichalus knew exactly what it was. Slowly he shook his head and then he continued reading the reports of the minor reports of altercations between the two sides on various ships throughout the fleet.

It was expected. One does not just bring together two enemies that have fought each other for literally decades and expect them to forget their training dogma at a moments notice. If a commander did not see this coming, he would not be deserving of his rank.

Nichalus was actually surprised by the relatively small number of incidents compared to the size of the fleet. It gave him a small measure of hope that both sides were growing tired of the constant conflict and were eager for this endeavor to succeed.

The blinking red letters kept drawing his attention....

"Unacceptable ....". Nichalus finally stated, throwing the pad on the desktop, which slid to a stop in front of the two Admirals, with the blinking red letters staring back at the two accusingly.

He held up a hand to stop the rebuttals that were sure to come. "Yes, it is only two men. Both of which took their grievences with each other to the grave. How many more are out there?". Nichalus pointed out the window to the assembled fleets. "There is no telling when we will be called into action Gentlemen. I need these people working as a unit. I can't afford to wonder in the back of my mind when something like this happens when the fleet is counting on them."

Jerec swallowed softly as he watched Nich and he looked to Admiral Capri. “Agreed that it is unacceptable sir. Many of Red Dagger’s own crew are former Imperial as well… Would it be so much of a stretch if we all streamline how we run the Fleet to a method that works everyone? We are outside the chain of command with this joint fleet operation and are only accountable to Organa and Thrawn so wouldn’t that give us leeway of enforcing a form of a zero tolerance policy for hostilities between the groups?”

"No, Mr. Ordin." Nichalus responded with a grim faced expression. "We are 'not' outside our respective 'chains of command', we still have to answer to our governments for our actions. While Leia and Thrawn have given us some 'leeway' in making this work, that does not give us carte blanc to do as we please."

"We knew these incidents were going to happen, and to an extent, we have to allow it to a point. Our people can't just be thrown together and be expected to not react to their base instincts. Both our groups have reputations as 'rogue' elements within our respective governments. It is only because we have changed the tides in our respective sides, that we have been successful in staving off punishments of much harsher natures."

Nichalus sighes slightly, reaching up and rubbing the bridge of his nose. "But.... There are events in motion, where our unique fleet will be called upon. At this time, I cannot discuss the matters...due to I don't know all the details...but, when the order comes, I want these two groups working as a single unit."

"We live and die by our deeds gentlemen." Nichalus stood and walked to the viewport. "Who and what we are, is what made us. This is the pennacle of our fleets, this is the ultimate unification for our two sides. We need to make this happen, or all that we have accomplished will be forgotten. The phrase..."What have you done for us lately", is a apt phrase in our current situation."

Re: Enemy Mine..The Great Experiment

The intercom on Nichalus's desk suddenly chimed.

"Admiral...public Comm Traffic has picked this up, I think you should see it sir." The Comm Officer relayed the signal to the screens over the desk for everyone to see.

Despite the best efforts of GNN to keep Sivter out of their signal, the Dark Master of the Cult of Shadow seemed to effortlessly break their encryption again to make his announcement. Viewers across the galaxy watched their screens as the Defel spoke to them in his by now familiar raspy voice.

“Another promise fulfilled,” Sivter said with a grin. “The planet Alsakan is no more than a barren and lifeless rock. Your governments did their best to try and stop me, but as I predicted, their efforts were worse than useless. Don’t believe me, then observe…”

Sivter’s face was replaced by footage of the Charon forces decimating the fleet over Alsakan and ravaging the planet. He continued speaking over the scenes of carnage and death. “Those ships you see filling the battlefield are the Charon, the very same creatures spoken of as hushed rumors and stories to frighten small children. As you can see, they are myth no longer. They serve the Cult of Shadow.”

Sivter’s face replaced the footage. “There is no stopping me. In my previous transmission I gave you the option of swearing your allegiance to me. I offer you one last chance to submit. Failure to do so will result in your complete destruction. From now until my dominion is complete, the Charon will show up at any planet that hasn’t sworn fealty to the Cult of Shadow and destroy it. You need but proclaim your loyalty through a holonet message and you will be spared. There will be no chance to save yourself if the Charon show up before you’ve completed this simple act of supplication.”

The Defel smiled. “I fully expect there will still be fools who resist the idea of serving me. Rest assured that they will be destroyed as all others who oppose me, but if you don’t want to share the fate of such boneheaded leaders, I suggest that the people take action and depose them. I believe the time has come to ask yourselves who you believe in more, your weak and ineffective governments, or the Cult of Shadow, who has delivered on every promise made. It’s your choice.”

The screen faded as Sivter delivered one last statement: “Choose wisely. I wouldn’t count on any more warnings about where we strike next.”

"Thank you Comm" Nichalus said as he switched off the unit.

"Well, I asked for a test....and one presents itself." Nichalus mused slightly. "Mr. Capri, I suggest you contact your High Command and get their stance on this situation, while I do the same with mine."

While he waited for Capri and Ordin's opinions on the holofeed....

**Cal, get what you can about this Sivter, Charon and the Cult of Shadows.** Nichalus thought to Caliban.

--Accessing....Processing....Transfering to you and the Admiral's Monitors. Latest intel places all these queries at the recent battle at Alsakan. With our new connections with the Imperial Intelligence Network through the Open Information Act, the reports are sparse and somewhat limited due to the Imperial's distrust, but logic would suggest the battle was a...'bloodbath', for all intents and purposes.--

--The records on the Charon are somewhat...missing, and what very little I could find are of no real use. Suffice to say that within their mysterious presense, they appear to be quite...formitable.--

Nichalus looked at the reports, raising an eyebrow at the results. "For every dictator that falls, 3 more rise in their place." Nichalus said more to himself than to the Admirals.

The sparse battle reports were the initial records of the battle and the first casualty reports. Ship losses seemed to be stricken from the records, which Nichalus would see as a smart move, but when compared to the death tolls, the ship losses were probably high.

Nichalus turned to the Admirals. "Gentlemen, your thoughts first. Then I want you to take this information, gleen what you can from it and then prep the fleet for departure."

"I will contact a few contacts I have in the upper echelons of Imperial intelligence and see what I can find out about these Charon and Siviter." Capri said looking over the data that had been provided by the Admiral. First talks of insubordination and even death within their fleet and now they would be heading off to face something unknown to them all.

If they didn't stand up and fight the Charon then what were they even doing together. This would be the first test of the new 105th Red Dagger Fleet and if Capri had anything to do with it then it would be a success, a beacon of hope for anyone willing to stand up for peace in the galaxy.

Pulling two chips from his pocket he handed both the Admirals one and said, "This will give you access to the Kiss's databanks. You will find security clearance for all but the highest level of classified material both the Navy and Intelligence has. She is more than just a ship gentleman, I have created a mobile intelligence command center with state of the art equipment. If either of you ever wish to use any of the equipment on board feel free."

Folding his hands on the table Capri looked to see if either man had anything more to say.

Jerec would look through the information and would rub his hand under his chin feeling the stubble growing. "I'll see if I can get ahold of my brother and see what he can find about this group since they appear to be Force Users and he has contacts within Corsec. Think we'll need all the intel we can get to make sure we don't run into another Corellia situation with GAIT." He'd dig into a few files and transfer it over to Nicholas. "Sir not sure if this will help but this was the login credentials that Damus had as Marshall of the New Republic Navy. It's a long shot but it's at least worth it and Caliban with having the codes could find a back door potentially to get into the files we may need."

The lead vessel of the 105th Fleet sent a tightbeam message toward the command ship of the Red Dagger fleet requesting an audience with Admiral Dreadstar. It had a short message attached to it.

Admiral Capri is currently unavailable, both Commodore Palin & Seth Forge are also unavailable. I wish to speak to you regarding your current summons of Admiral Capri at your earliest opportunity. I have provided the codes that will allow you to directly connect to the bridge of my ship. I will be waiting your appearance."

A woman dressed in a slim form fitting uniform that hung in all the right places to show her body off quickly looked up from the command chair as the image of Admiral Dreadstar appeared.

“Greetings Admiral Dreadstar, I am Commodore Katherine Gavlik. Admiral Capri is still recovering from his surgery and the command ship Infinity’s Kiss is still currently undergoing repairs. Both Commodore Forge and his cousin are away on private business and I have been left in overall command of the 105th onboard the current flagship Night Terror.”

An older man dressed in a clean black suit with the insignia of the 105th stood slightly to one side the only other person in the image Dreadstar would be receiving. There were no other identifiers on the man’s uniform.

Jerec would report to the ready room as soon as he could having been digging up information and having seen the declaration of the attack on Mon Cal. The question he wondered was would they make it there in time. The life of an officer he'd think. His mind would think to his brother Mace working for MedStar now playing the role of security under Damus another of his former commanding officers wondering at times how he got to be the officer when his brother had orginally orchestrated him coming to the New Republic.
