Jedi Temple: Ossus (II)

Post by Beorht » Tue Jan 03, 2012 8:28 am

The Jedi Temple stands on a rocky island at the edge of a waterfall. Jedi from many traditions walk its halls, and the Jedi Council makes its base here.

Far away, on Onderon, the other Jedi Temple has recently been destroyed. Wounds are still healing; rebuilding is underway. Most of the Jedi from the Onderon Temple have come to Ossus to recuperate. But the unknown destroyer is still out there...

The Battle of Mon Calamari has concluded, and the hundreds of Jedi Knights involved - as ground forces, starfighter pilots, or boarding crews - are looking at the needs of the day. Some are well enough to stay and heal on the Mon Calamari planet of Dac, or to join a fresh strike against Sivter and the Cult of Shadow. Others are grievously wounded. A few have more pressing missions. And many gave their lives to stop the Charon, but their concern can be felt still. Some of those who return, however, have stranger and more personal objectives...

The Jedi Council has divided its forces across the galaxy. There may simply be too many threats to handle. And to the north, the Sith Empire is stirring...

"Hey, I got the easy job." Alliera said, smiling "Your the one who has to take care of the civies, it sounds like you need to be carefull."

Alliera pulled out one of her blastes, and held it in her off-hand with her lightsaber in her right hand. Alliera wend down the cave the other sith went down, being carefull to look around corners when encountered. Alliera shiethed her weapons as she got further down, and stayed close to the walls.

Pain. Suffering. Death. Destruction. War.

He could feel it all. Not in the here and the now, but in the future, in the unforeseen. He sensed darkness on the horizon, ancient and evil.

Consciousness flowed into him, and he could begin to get a grasp of his surroundings. He felt the sticky liquid surrounding him, became aware of the breathing apparatus over his mouth and the plugs on his nose. He twitched, and a flash of memories and visions appeared before him. Slowly, his hearing began to come about. He could hardly make out the muffled and dulled sounds of people around him.

He quickly became aware of where he was. Submerged in a bacta tank. Someone said something in response to his arising consciousness. He slowly opened his eyes. His vision was blurred, but he could make out the general surroundings well enough. It was some sort of medical center. He remembered. The last thing he saw was a creature… a Whiphid, he recalled. What was his name? He concentrated, though it pained him to do so. He was still weak, still recovering.

L’hnnar, that was it. His vision began to recover, and Guan immediately remembered why he was there to begin with. He reached down with a hand and felt where the lightsaber wound was. In its place was flesh and a stitched up scar. He was healing, but not as fast as he would have liked. A medical droid made its analysis of his vitals, but Guan ignored the barely audible sound, and pressed himself up toward the surface of the tank.

Moments later, he was out of the device, and clothed in patient attire. “Master Jedi,” the doctor pressed for the third time, “I urge you to reconsider. You are in no condition to fight, let alone travel.”

“I assure you, your warnings are well heeded,” he repeated. Guan had regained much of his strength, to everyone’s surprise, but she was right. He was in no condition to fight or travel heavily. “However, I am needed elsewhere. This is something I simply cannot ignore.”

She was no Jedi, but she had been around them enough to know not to argue with one when it came to the Force. The doctor sighed, defeated. “Very well,” she said, bringing her datapad up and putting in some commands. “I will discharge you, though I want you to know it brings me no satisfaction in doing so.” Guan merely nodded. “I will notify your friends of your pending departure. And though I have no doubt you will take my advice with but a grain of salt, I am warning you not to strain yourself and to apply any healing techniques you may know on a regular basis.”

He nodded again. Luckily, Guan knew a few techniques he could use. “Understood.” He could tell she was taken aback. She was likely used to the younger, brasher apprentices schooling her about their own limitations. While he could not consider himself much more than them in terms of personal growth, he was wiser than most aspiring Jedi Knights, and knew where his own limitations were.

Or so he thought. It was that blindness that brought him to this place. He would not make the same mistake.

“Your friends have been waiting for your recovery on the planet’s surface. I would imagine they will be here shortly.” The doctor finished inputting the data into the device and gave Guan her full attention. “If you want a full recovery from these wounds, you will stay away from any strenuous activity until you are fully healed.”

“Will do,” Guan said. The doctor turned and took her leave, allowing him to depart and gather his belongings. He took note that his lightsaber was not among them. It was a missing item he would have to take the time to replace. Once he finished gathering his belongings, Guan made his way toward the hangar bay. It was mostly empty, minus the frigate’s own craft. As he settled himself into a light healing trance, a lone VCX-820 escort freighter came into view and slowly brought itself to an empty place in the hangar. Guan’s eyes opened just as the ship settled into place, and he brought himself up off the floor.

The boarding ramp descended as Guan made his way toward the ship, and two familiar figures appeared in greeting. One was the armored appearance of his father’s human replica droid, Neddac, while the other was the Wookiee Ryy’Suuk. Much to his dismay, Ryy’Suuk embraced him in a tight hug. Guan grunted in pain, and eased the Wookiee off of him. “I’m glad to see you, too,” he said, recovering from the surge of pain in his gut. “But, please… don’t do that again….”

“I am glad to see you are alive and well,” Neddac said in turn. “We were uncertain of your fate when we brought you here, but it would seem our faith was well placed.”

Guan nodded. “It would seem,” he repeated. Fate was kind to him, but he felt the only reason he was still alive is because the Force still had plans for him. “We need to head back to Onderon. I wish to speak with the Council.”

The two looked at each other for a moment, and Guan knew what it meant. “No.”

“The Jedi temple at Onderon was destroyed,” Neddac said. Guan knew before it was spoken, but to hear the words were no less disturbing. “News reports suggest a renegade Imperial faction, though rumors are circulating it was but a ruse.”

Guan was quiet for what seemed an eternity. Finally, he spoke up. “Were there survivors?”

“The Jedi relocated here,” Neddac replied. “The Council is now within the confines of the Ossus enclave.”

“Very well,” he said, still shaken by this news. “I must go speak with them. It is an urgent matter.”

As the ship departed from the medical bay, Guan watched from the cockpit as Neddac brought the Hellfire around to face the planet before them. Ossus. He had never been there before. The fact that the Onderon temple had been wiped out was still an uneasy notion. He took note of a CEC Class IV freighter in orbit, bearing the unmistakable marking of the Guardians of Life. “The others,” he said, “they’re here?”

Neddac shook his head. “Master Thul and Zarran are both away from the system, participating in the battle against the Charon at Mon Calamari,” he said. “We received word that Reina had recently come to the planet surface, and is also seeking an audience with the Council. Perhaps you ought to speak with her first.”

Guan considered the comment for a moment. Yes, perhaps. There was no doubt that they had been apart too long. A status update on the Guardians would do him some good. They entered the atmosphere and proceeded toward the surface as Neddac brought their course toward the temple. As they approached the landing spaces, located a healthy distance away from the temple itself. Guan grimaced. He was certain he could make the trip with no difficulties, but the fact it would be a long walk guaranteed some strain on his injury.

The ship touched down and the trio began their trek toward the temple. The more they walked, the more Guan regretted it. He pushed past the growing pain as they continued through the enclave toward the main temple. They arrived at the temple not a moment too soon, and Guan felt the need to rest. He seated himself in the main hall and concentrated on his healing techniques.

Ryy’Suuk roared a concerned question to Guan. “Yeah,” he said, “I’m fine. The wound hasn’t fully healed… I just need a moment to rest.” When the pain finally subsided, Guan stood up from the bench. “Let us continue,” he said. The two lead him through the temple until they reached the waiting room for the Council chambers. There he took note of a familiar face. “Reina.”

The woman and her apprentice looked at him. “Guan,” he returned the greeting. “What are you doing here?”

“I don’t quite know yet,” he said. “That’s what I’m here to find out.” He took a breath. The vision portrayed important news to him, that which he was unable to ignore. “I’ve seen glimpses into the future,” he finally said. “I felt it wise to consult the Council.”

She looked at him quizzically, and with that alone he knew what was about to be said. “I, too, have experienced such visions. Visions of chaos and war. A threat unseen, yet soon to reveal itself, I fear.”

“Bringing death and destruction to the galaxy in its wake,” Guan continued for her. So it was true. While he knew nothing of what was to come, between him and Reina, he had a feeling that such information would be revealed soon enough. “So we are on the same path. Perhaps the Council could speak to us both.”

“They’re waiting to hear from those not present before they grant my request,” she said. “At least four of the masters are currently off-world, all of whom are experienced in the matter of responding to visions.”

Guan nodded. Then it was merely a point of waiting. As it must be, he figured. “The better an understanding of what we have seen, the clearer our objective shall be,” he merely said. He wasn’t even certain if it was in his place to go chasing these visions, but he could not deny that they were half the reason he was not still in a bacta tank. Perhaps his place was to allow Reina a better objective of her own. Guan couldn’t imagine being the right choice for such an expedition. His previous understanding had been that his task was to learn what happened to his father, and try to save his brother. He had previously felt both impossible, but that last moment on Ronu II told him that there was still something left of Jerik to save. Though he wished he held the same hope in learning about the fate of his father.

He opted to join Reina in waiting for the Council to summon them forth. He was certain she would have him join her in her report, and the Council would be willing to hear what he had to say. News on what happened to his brother was small, compared to this, and more of a personal mission of his than something he felt the Jedi ought to dedicate any sort of time toward. No, Jerik’s redemption was solely his responsibility, nobody else could confront him. He wished his brother to live, and he feared that any other Jedi that was to be sent after him would die, fall to the dark side, or kill Jerik. He wished none of those scenarios to happen.

OOC: So... yeah... I dunno, I think that turned out kinda bad near the end. Whatever. Anyway, consider that the official "someone wants to talk to the Council" statement. Whenever the Council's ready to talk... then feel free to respond.

The Council doors opened.

Many of the Council members were off-world, it was true, but several sat in their chairs and others appeared to through HoloNet transmissions. Sovral, Tan Mo'riss, Ember Rekali and others ceased their discussions as the Jedi Knights entered the Council chamber. It was its own building, quite small, on a little island at the edge of the waterfall, connected to the main temple complex by a slim arched bridge. Inside, the crash of the waterfall was muted to a subtle white noise, barely perceptible.

Tan Mo'riss leaned forward. The little Aleena Master rested his rilled head on his hands. "Knights Guan Blackthorne and Reina Krailles, Padawan Al'eah, welcome. We understand you've been experiencing visions of a decidedly negative character - you are not the first. Sometimes it seems as though the Jedi Order exists in a constant state of susceptibility to dreams and visions and apparitions. I've had some myself, as have others present here. We've consulted with our experts on the matter, and will do so again after you explain the context and content of your visions. They will be recorded for correlation with other visions, and so forth. You can see we're very modern around here," he said with a smirk. "But please - explain. Some of us may interrupt for clarification's sake, and we beg your indulgence."

Ember Rekali's head tilted to the side. "And if you have any related concerns," he said slowly, "feel free to share them."

Rach smiled at that. A real live girl cared if he lived or died - not something you could say just every day. He smiled some more, a little foolishly, as Alliera disappeared down the tunnel, then set about helping the Ithorians and leading them through watery tunnels to safety.

Meanwhile, the alien Sith crept down the dark tunnel, back towards Alliera. He didn't see her...

OOC/ Hope this ain't confusing for anyone. Rach and Alliera (Mandalore) takes place before the battle of Mon Cal; Rach is also present with Iara, Ossu and so forth, immediately after the battle. Mandalore, pretty soon we're going to have to catch up with the rest of the thread, and Rach is going to need to leave for the battle of Mon Cal. If you still want Rach and Alliera to get together (I've implied in threads set later that they do), we can imply that now as we finish up this event. Tal, I think I remember you suggesting staying to help at Mon Cal, and Ethan and Caitlin are still pretty fresh if I remember right, or at least relatively uninjured. I'll leave it up to you whether they stayed at Mon Cal or came to Ossus.

IC/ The Aletheia touched down across the river from the Jedi Temple, on immense landing pads jammed with Jedi craft of all descriptions. The injured Jedi took boats across the river; Iara and company joined them. They entered the small stone city and made for the infirmary, where Master Chirushk, Boolon Murr and other healers did their work. As they approached, Iara paused on the steps.

"If Arice survives whatever they did to him," she said, "he'll-"

"You mean if what they try saves his life," said Rach.

"I don't feel like arguing this with you, Rach. Take Ossu and get her back to-"

"I'm a Knight, you're a Knight. Mission over." He stalked into the infirmary.

"If Arice survives, he'll come here. He'll sense...us. Me, and you, Ossu. And his friends. He'll come here. All we have to do is heal and wait. I hope."

They entered the infirmary, which was chaos. Iara, though the most heavily wounded of the group, had spent a little time with bacta. Once Chirushk pronounced them unlikely to keel over and die on the spot, he assigned them to heal. They'd had a little time to rest, so Iara had the Force back. The problem was, she couldn't heal worth crap, and that had nearly cost Arice his life. She needed to learn. But experience is a harsh teacher, fools will learn from no other, and with the examples and remonstrances of Chirushk's people, Iara began to learn to heal. Ossu learned with her. Rach, as it turned out, was a capable combat medic and low-grade healer, though his Force healing techniques were bastardized Dathomiri magic learned from his parents.

Thus they passed the time.

Ossu was enjoying the time spent with Iara and Rach. Despite the horrific injuries, and tragic deaths, it felt good to be part of... Something... It was funny, Ansari had tended to keep herself to herself and this had meant Ansari had been the sum of whom Ossu could call company. Arice, Iara and Rach now... It felt a bit like a family, being part of a family again - except Arice was missing, and she felt something was missing.

She focused on her work, she was a poor healer, but her spirit was well attuned to it and she was learning fast. She kept seeing Rach out of the corner of her eye, so confident, so capable. She found herself finding it hard not to admire him - once he caught her glance, she looked away shyly and tried to concentrate on what she was doing... She found herself playing 'what if' games in her mind with Rach, which she knew wasn't healthy - there was the species barrier, the experience barrier... Still sometimes it was nice to consider what might be - even if realistically it never would.

Rach Kol-Rekali, bless his heart, was not good with women. He tried - oh how he tried - but there are just some days when it does you no good to be raised on a world where the only women are related to you or trying to kill you. He'd ended up with Alliera almost by accident, really - but then again she was a very forward girl. So he could perhaps be forgiven for not realizing that Ossu had a crush on him.

Besides. Healing kept him busy.

Arice and Dark at this point were en-route to Ossus. A small passenger freighter that had been parked at the asteroid base. Dark was piloting, Arice, still not recovered from his ordeal - but looking better physically than he'd done in thirty years. It was strange knowing that his arm he's lost... What? Forty years ago? Was now regrown. He could still feel the thirst, just at the edge of his mind. Dark had told him it would get easier with practice.

Part of Arice resented what Rissk had done, but most of him was pleased - if nothing else, he could see Iara again. To see her one more time, would make it worth while. The question raging in his mind was; "Can I stay?" the effects of the Vankyr infection had kept him alive, but was being a Vankyr compatible with being a Jedi? It was a question which had yet to be answered.

Alliera knocked out the sith, and towed him back to the water way's entrance. Alliera stowed the sith's lightsaber into one of her pockets, and started dragging him and his friend back to the Jedi Temple, using the speeder to get accros the desert. Alliiera and Rach made it back to the temple with the Ithorians and the Sith Prisoners in a good time.

----Timeskip----

Alliera didn't hate being a Jedi Padawan, but right now, she wasn't a fan of the rank. When the group of jedi that were going to Mon Calamari had been gathered, she had been forbidden to go because her master didn't think she was ready. Now they were returning, and she couldn't help but get a bad feeling. Alliera was helping in the medical center, staying near Rach, and she could see the Ossu woman looking at Rach. She felt a moment of possesiveness enter her system, and couldn't dismiss it, because Ossu had been thier for Rach when she couldn't...did that mean Rach would want Ossu more than her? Deep down, Alliera knew this thought thrain was silly, but she couldn't dismiss the thoughts.

He'd been dating Alliera for a little while by this point, more or less. He wasn't totally sure what to call their relationship. They had fun, and they worked well together as partners in the Jedi Shadows, but...

He just wasn't that great at relationships.

And he'd kinda-sorta-almost been flirting with Ossu, which was a bad idea, though she was a nice kid and all...

So he made sure to pay attention to Alliera as they worked together. He sensed her relief that he'd survived the battle, and was relieved that nothing bad had happened to the Jedi Temple or to her while he was gone. Over-the-top, obsessed with explosives, highly emotional she might be, but she was still his girlfriend, and his friend as well.

He looked up as he worked on an unconscious man's leg. "Ossu, have you met Alliera? She's my partner with the Jedi Shadows." Crap. He couldn't just say 'this is my girlfriend'...could he?

"...and his girlfriend." She said, trying and failing to keep the possessive edge out of her voice "It's nice too meet you, I'm sorry I can't shake your hand right now, I'm a little busy." Alliera was in fact half carrying/half guiding a wounded Knight to one of the tables, the knight tapped Rach on the sholdier as Alliera and him passed the younger knight and mouthed 'bad choice of words' while cringing...wheather in pain or at Rach's mistake wasn't appearent. Alliera deposited the Knight and walked by Rach again, not even agnolidging him.

Ossu was stopped in her tracks at Alleria's little 'amendment'. She cast Rach and accusing look and subtly started to turn her back on the pair of them. She felt cheated, Rach had been flirting with her, it hadn't been her imagination - she may have been young but she was self assured and had a good memory - not just for the facts, but for the signals people gave her.

She tried to throw herself into what she was doing... In some respects Alleria had done her something of a favour because she was suddenly able to focus on what she was doing much more effectively.

Now that, Rach caught.

Lovely.

Frack.

He focused on sterilizing some tools until his next task took him closer to where Alliera was working now. "Sorry about that," he said. "It really was a daft choice of words."

Survive the Cult and the Charon and the end of the universe, only to have karma catch up to you in the form of a couple of girls. Wonderful.

"Glad you're alright. I was worried someone might take advantage of the bulk of the Order being gone for all these battles and missions...how's your Knighthood coming?"

"It's coming steadily, My master and his wife have pretty much adopted me." Alliera said, attending to a piece of equipment that was monitering the earlier knight "It'll come sooner rather than later, Sache has started taking me out for a few lessons of her own." Alliera finished with the equipment and kissed the side of Rach's face. "Master said after I get my knighthood, he'll teach me flow walking, how cool is that?"

Rach grinned and relaxed, though he still felt a bit guilty. "That's great! You and Benna will have to compare notes." Though they'd been together a little while, Rach didn't think Alliera had spent much time with his little sister, who'd also learned flow-walking. "I tried learning it, but the Aing-Tii techniques just didn't work for me. I spent days just wandering around the Aing-Tii ship, talking with the monks, learning to use their weapons and things like that. Always was jealous. Who knows; maybe you'll be able to teach me when they couldn't."

"I've been meaning to get to know your sister." Alliera said, starting to move boxes of medical supplies still near Rach "I just havn't had time, I hope she isn't offended." Alliera finished her task, and embraced Rach from behind. "About your slip of the tounge earlier, you can pay me back tonight." Alliera said, disengaging the embrace before it hindered Rach's healing attempts "I'll let you use your imagination." Alliera walked away, and started carrying more equipment to where it was needed, smiling to herself.

Arice stood in the hangar watching Dark blast into orbit - his next stop the Mirage Obsidious. He'd taken one of Arice's craft from the Asteroid base - but it was a small price to pay to live... If existing as a Vankyr could be called living. He felt sort of dead inside, but also more alive than he'd ever been and the effects were developing with each passing hour.

As he walked towards the main entrance, he felt a sense of deep trepidation, people might not even recognize him, waltzing in with long gone limbs intact again, looking like a healthy 30 year old instead of the weather-worn, battle scared veteran that he would have looked like a matter of days ago. Traffic was heavy, people running back and forth - either searching for friends lost in the battle or carrying medical supplies.

He followed his senses until he came to the area where Ossu, Rach, Alleria and others were healing casualties. His senes were still mixed up and he had to use his vision to identify his associates. He was also brimming with a deep down malevolence, pure darkside energy, causing one or two particularly sensitive force-users to stare at him in awe... This wasn't going to be easy...

He approached Ossu, who was busy tending to a badly burned Rodian, "Ossu..." She froze on the spot... She could hear the voice, but despite recognizing it, eevn the voice had changed subtly she turned slowly not knowing what she'd see. When she'd span she cast her eyes from his head to his feet, "M...Master Quinn?!" she stammered because she hardly recognized him. For a moment her inhibitions and fears were swept aside by the relief that somehow he was still alive and they embraced closely, but briefly. When they pulled apart Ossu looked up at Arice in wonder, "What happened to you!? You look, I mean you don't look, I mean erm..."

Arice patted her on the shoulder, "I don't want to explain yet - it's complicated.... Where is Iara?"

"Just around the corner in the burn unit," said Rach. "Just a second..."

He made as if to go get her, but she came around the corner on her own. "Thought I sensed you," she said, tears in her eyes but not in her voice. "Arice...you made it out of there alive. You're alive. I guess I didn't believe they could do it...what did they do to you?"

"Whatever it is saved his life," said Rach, referring back to their previous argument.

Arice looked from Rach to Iara... And breathed a sigh of relief, "You're alive... You made it..." He was relieved, pleased to see them both, particularly Iara, but at the same time something was missing, something was wrong. He'd gotten to the stage where seeing her face would make his heart skip a beat and feel all warm inside, where hearing her voice would make him forget all his worries and feel content.

He looked into Iara's eyes with a tinge of sadness, and a look of lost love, "I can't explain how I'm here, I should be dead - I was dead... I don't know if even I should perhaps be dead..."

He looked across the room, another Zabrak Jedi was desperately trying to keep a female human alive, he saw her spirit stand up, leave the body and walk away, eventually becoming brighter and brighter - then fading away. He stepped over and pulled the Zabrak's hand away, "You are too late - she's become one with the force..." A look of confusion appeared on the face.. People were staring at him... He saw other spirits, some desperately trying to revive their broken physical forms, others walking into the light...

He groaned to himself. Deathwalker he'd experienced death - would he now have an unbreakable, connection death? He didn't know whether he wanted to see what he was seeing, it could have been seen as positive... But at the moment it all seemed very tragic.

He turned back to Iara, "Iara, what they've done to me has changed me, and I don't know whether I'll ever be the same person again... Please, let me ask you one request, give me some time. If our relationsh.. friendship appears to be not what it was, know that I am fighting this thing... Trying to be who I was... But I can't give you any promises - I am in unknown territory." He wanted to kiss her, to grab and hold her tightly, but it was wrong... He felt cold, and emotionless, like a predator eyeing up his prey. He couldn't even cry at the sadness for what he'd lost - such was his emotional detachment.

The small fury creature was all alone on the metallic deck of the shuttle. The vessel shook and it new that it was aproaching a landing area below. A loud noise started the small creature causing him to scurry across the deck. He was a Ri'dar a small creature from a planet on the rim. A pirate crew had taken him in as a pet, sort of like a mascot. He was a small thing, but after a short time on the voyage the crew came to realize something. He was special. The creature would tinker with the comunications unit and hide from the crew, and even learn language skills. There was something different about this animal. Soon the group named him Radar and the animal saught his freedom. When the group was raiding a freighter the creature went through the boarding ramp undetected and stowed aboard. Radar hitch hiked his way to a place where he heard special beings like him were treated with respect and dignity, Ossus.

The ramp crashed down causing Radar to take shelter behind a supply crate. The light of the planets star blinded him almost immediately, having spent so much time in the dark hold of the ship. Taking this opertunity he darted towards the light and spread his furry wings to take flight and escape his servitude onboard the vessel.

"There's someone flying around up there," said Sorra Qail. The redheaded smuggler Jedi was the quartermaster, in charge of making sure everyone got proper rooms and all the supplies went where they were supposed to go. She stood on the

"Are you sure it's a someone?" Ember Rekali was a tall man, a Jedi Master and member of the Jedi Council. His purple eyes gave away his Vahla ancestry. He sighed and began taking off his armour, right there on the threshold of the Jedi Council chambers. "I'd better go warn him or her about the flyers."

The flyers: broad wings without feathers, a long straight beak, an equally long crest at the back of the skull that balanced out the beak. Big enough to kill someone flying around, though they avoided the small stone city that was the Jedi Temple.

"Don't we have anyone who can fly and go up there?" said Sorra.

"We have some S'kytri and some Vors, but they're all offworld fighting a cult that uses Trispzest. I'd hate to scare him out of the sky using telepathy, just in case he's new to this. I'd better go up there."

"That might scare him too."

"Then I'd be in a position where I'd be able to help him. Besides..I've always wanted to try this."

Floating Meditation had always been a favourite of his, and he was very powerful in telekinesis. Not so great at some other things, but moving things with his mind...that, he could do. He took off his cape and dropped it on top of the armour. "Wish me luck..."

He focused and slowly lifted off the ground, then gained momentum bit by bit until he was above the Jedi Temple...flying, moving towards Radar in the air.

"Careful!" he shouted. "There are big flying predators on this world."

Iara nodded, sensing his lack of emotion...and his desire to feel again. "I knew it would change you," she said with a glance at Rach, "but I know you'll fight it. Do what you have to do, Arice."

"You're stronger than this!" said Rach. "You are who you are, and nothing Malakai did to you can change that! When he killed my mother and absorbed her spirit, he cast what remained into the In-Between. He took her memories, her power, much of her will and sense of identity...but she was still her, still my mother, and she found a way to come back! Granted, she's an echo of her former self - but Malakai did his worst to her, and she's still her!"

"Rach, control yourself," Iara snapped.

Arice raised an eyebrow...

Of course... He didn't know how he knew - but clearly the woman in question was the dismembered corpse they'd discovered on Dathomir... In the Crystal Desert. He rested a hand on Rach's shoulder, "I think I may have seen her... I don't know, we found a body... In the Crystal Desert, near Fire Mountain on Dathomir. We wanted to bring her back but a Whipid, and... Hmmm, he was implying he was in league with Malakai, he insisted we leave her. Lives were at stake, and I believe he could have had Malakai's forces swarming us in seconds... We were outnumbered as it was..."

He looked at Iara, "Malakai's troops have a weapon too, that you should know about - it looks a little like a normal blaster, but large and fires yellowy white bolts... But the bolts can't be deflected with a sabre - they look like they could be, but if you try... They explode in a ball of white hot flames..."

Before she could speak he turned back to Rach, "I don't think Malakai wanted 'what was done to me' done... I think Rissk is going to be in trouble for having saved me in this way... I don't know... I might be able to reverse it..."

He looked around at the injured, then sighed deeply, "And standing here talking about my welfare isn't the best use of our concentration - these people need our help. I'll live, we can worry about my welfare once this mess is sorted out... I'm sorry about your mother Rach, if I thought we could have had any chance of overpowering the Whipid - Malakai's crony - then we would have... When we left we passed the spot and she was gone, so I don't know what happened to her remains."

A Whiphid...Velok. Rach had worked for Velok for a time, as a pilot and ship captain. So that was how Ember had gotten his wife's remains back...

"He gave them to my father, who buried her on the hill. My brother's buried up there too. But yes - let's get back to work..."

Rach went back to heal with Alliera.

Arice raised an eyebrow, "Are you... But he was definitely in league with Malakai?! Why would... And how come she was even on Dathomir?"

He looked sadly at Rach, "I'm sorry, I understand if you're not comfortable talking about it - it just doesn't make sense though, a sith, possibly under the employ of Malakai helping? Especially after what you say Malakai did to her?! I understand if you don't want to talk about it."

Ossu was watching the conversation from face to face, her understanding of the galaxy was getting more and more confused - nothing made sense any more... Then she looked closer at Arice, it wasn't immediately obvious because of his clothes, but he appeared... Healthier, younger even! She noticed the missing horn he'd sported last time they met now miraculously returned... It sent a chill down her spine... Something didn't seem right about it and she shied away from the Arice and Iara, a little disturbed.

The man was large, must larger than he was and... flying? It amazed the small being that a wingless one could fly. on top of that he was mentioning predators? The thaught made his hair stand on edge. Instead of replying in words he instead he dipped his wing and soared towards a cluster or rocks below. He was scared of the man and running for dear life. As he hit the ground he found a hole to scurry into. It was his last option to escape the large man flying after him. Words apeared in his head from his time in captivity. \"Me have blaster!\" He said threatening. There was no blaster, but maybe it was scare off the man. He put his back against a rock and tried desperately to create a larger amount of distance between himself and the rock hole entrance. \"I warn you for final time!\" He shoated. Radar only learned basic recently so he wasn\'t very good at it. The way he spoke was often in short and meant to be taken literal. The small creature was backed against a wall holdings its small claws up and cowering.

Ember touched down heavier than he'd meant to. Dust shivered up from the ground. He raised a hand, then hesitated and lowered it. He could make the little being calm down with the Force, but that would be immoral. Instead he took a few steps back and hunched his shoulders a little, trying to present a smaller and less threatening profile. He was a soldier - where were the more peaceful Jedi when he needed them? Where were the gentler Masters like Kalja Leidias or Tan Mo'riss? Or healers like Chirushk or Boolon Murr?

No, right now, he was the only one here.

"Calm down," he said gently. "I'm trying to help. Welcome to the planet Ossus. My name is Ember. What's yours?"

Rach sighed. "Velok's plans are complicated. He has his own motivations and doesn't respect tradition. He'd make common cause with Malakai for advantage, but he considers me a useful contact...and apparently my father, too. I wonder how many Jedi he knows. He wouldn't be working for Malakai - with him, sure. So Velok brought Mom home..." His voice drifted off. "On the other hand, he's totally ruthless. If he risked his connection with Malakai to bring Mom's body home, there has to have been another reason...doesn't there? Something to be gained from it..."

"Velok?" said Iara. Her eyes flashed. "I know Velok. That crazy barve makes no sense. He was watching me for a couple of years, trying to make sure I stayed on the Light Side. He said he knew Lyn."

"I don't know about this Velok person." Alliera said, butting into the convo "But if we're ever going to go after Malakai, I want in." Alliera had put down what she was doing when she finished, and leaned against Rach lightly. "He turned Hood into a monster." She said finally, frowning "I want to try and turn him back..." Alliera kissed Rach on the cheek, reassuring him that she still wanted him despite wanting to save hood.

Arice looked at Alleria and then Rach, "Malakai is something of an enigma... He kept a friend of mine - Kregor Faltis, in captivity, doing experiments on him for decades... He's creating several... Hmmm... " It was at that point where he had a window to explain the Vankyr infection. "He... He's resurrected something of an ancient curse as well. From what I can tell it's something which died out a long time ago - but somehow he's managed to re-create it, I suspect using the expertise of his cloner 'Cair'"

Ossu picked up on it, it sent a shiver down her spine, "It's what saved you right? You're not what you were?"

Arice sighed deeply, "The Vankyr infection, I don't know much about it, but confers several advantages to those infected with it, it's very powerful - but it has a large price... And yes, it's what Rissk used to bring me back from the dead. I know of at least three individuals who are definately infected, and I suspect there are more. I wish I could tell you more about it... But the truth is I don't really understand it myself... All I can tell you is my arm which was disintegrated forty years ago, regrew after decades in a matter of minutes..."

Ossu stepped forwards, "You look younger too, much younger, but somehow... Cold?"

Arice nodded solemnly, "I feel different too... I don't know whether it will last or if it can be reversed... I... Hmmm, the trouble with going after Malakai, is several fold, we don't know where he is based, I do know he has a army of force-sensitive clones, and an elite group of clones who can negate your ability to use the force, he can tear holes in reality - project his presence across the galaxy... He almost managed to stop the Jedi assault on Darth Sirena at the valley of the Jedi without even being there... If not for Adam... From what Rissk says, Malakai can force throw planets, super-nova stars and commit mass genocide without even leaving his ship..."

While he was talking he was going over what had been said... Alleria? He looked at her in astonishment, "Hood is alive?! I was sure he was dead! We saw him plummet to his death from a skiff on Dathomir! How is this possible? Where is he? Can he tell us anything about Malakai?"

"I gave him the energy needed to try his escape..." Alliera said, deflating whatever energy she had left as she brought up the memories "Through the connection we had...and it still exsists in some form..." Alliera leaned on Rach more heavily on Rach, for comfort. "Most nights sense, I've had nightmares...or visions...about what he's become, what he's done to others, and what's been done to him..." Alliera said, frowning "The worst is when I see what the woman did to him, and what he retaliated with..."

Arice sighed deeply, 'Another padawan lost beyond redemption...' His words were in his head, but they almost be heard in his sigh. He looked up, "We'll have to see if he's beyond redemption when we meet him. No doubt Malakai has plans for him... Probably involving us in some form or other. We won't need to look for him, he'll look for us when the time is right."

He looked around at the faces of Rach, Iara, Alleria, Ossu... Everyone seemed full of gloom, he tried a weak smile, "Things aren't so bad, I'm alive - I may be different, but I'm alive - and you're all alive! Let's try to help the fallen, we'll have to catch up properly later."

As he turned away he caught Iara's glance for a moment, the warmness she seemed to hold for him before seemed faded now, it looked more a look of worried concern. When she saw him looking she smiled a little, and it warmed him to the core, he felt just a little bit more alive than he did before. Maybe there was hope for him?

If there was one person who would be able to redeem him, it would be Iara, if she wanted to... Wanted to once she fully understood what he'd become.

He set about trying to tend wounds and help where he could, he wasn't a healer, and the sight of blood... Blood everywhere was testing his resolve... Once or twice he felt his eyes darkening subtly and fangs fighting to start elongating... But he managed to push the feelings away, one thing was for sure - it was lucky he'd fed before leaving... Otherwise he would not be able to control himself.

Rach and Iara got back to work - Iara with her usual confused feelings, Rach with another reminder of his mother and brother. His family had been close; the survivors still were. They'd been the only people on their world besides the Cult, after all. The last time he'd seen her alive, they'd argued.

He'd seen her a couple of times since her shredded spirit's return from the In-Between. At times she was wispy, insubstantial; at others she seemed capable of strange things. He wondered, privately, what deals she'd made to return home. He wondered where she'd gotten the strength, erratic as it was.

He thought of Lyn taking over his body.

Sometimes, he figured, the cost of living was just too high.

After a long day of healing, alongside dedicated Jedi healers and medical doctors and droids, the influx of injured began to decrease. They'd been at this for days, after all, since Onderon was hit. These were the last of the Onderon injured and evacuated, and the bulk of the Jedi injured from the Battle of Mon Calamari. Too tired to do much of anything, Rach retreated to spend some quiet time with Alliera and then get some sleep.

For her part, Iara took care of Alu in the evening, alone, then slept.

In the morning, Iara and Rach met at the medcentre and verified that the work was nearly done. The hospital staff rechecked their wounds and excused them - Rach to work with the Jedi Shadows and Alliera, Iara to go see how Ossu and Arice were doing.

Alliera embraced Rach and kissed him, resting her head on his chest, she enjoyed his company last night and she wanted to show it. "I'm sorry I dropped all the hood stuff on you..." Alliera said, looking up at Rach "Its just that as much as I want to repress the dreams, talk of malakai brought it back up."
Alliera continued with her head of Rach's chest, and her arms around his neck, just enjoying his warmth.

Arice having not had permenant quarters assigned before - managed to get a two berth room allocated. The apprentice living with the master was a tradition that not all followed, but Arice believed it to be for the best.

Or at least part of him did... Part of him was concerned about the thirst, he could never live with himself if he harmed Ossu... Or anyone for that matter... Yet the urges...

They were spending their first night in the new quarters, when Arice awoke in the middle of the night, his fangs extended, his eyes jet black. He was thirsty... So thirsty...

He cast a glance at Ossu, lying there, sleeping peacefully... He moved faster than the eye could track, looming over her, she would have felt his breath on her neck - had she been awake. He stretched his jaw and prepared to plunge his fangs into her jugular... Then saw her face, full of innocence, she was beautiful, even by Lethan standards she was - more so when she asleep even. Somehow the stresses of the Jedi way ever since he'd met her had left her permenantly worried, frowning or both...

The fangs shrunk back into his jaw and the blackness in his eyes faded. He cursed himself... He cursed Malakai for what he'd become... He wondered whether Malakai had intended this for him all along - it was a form of torture, almost worse than death. Being a danger to people he cared about...

No...

He wouldn't cave in and allow Malakai to defeat him. He didn't know how, and he didn't know when - but he knew it was his destiny to destroy Malakai. He was feeling stronger now, and expected to be called back to the Jedi Shadows soon - so he decided to venture into the training area.

In the arena he programmed the training droids to the highest difficulty setting, and set the programme to continue ramping up the difficulty past the maximum starting point with each victory... Then entered the arena.

A door swished open and a sabre wielding droid stormed out, on the attack. Arice's twin blades snapped into life, he moved forwards and almost lost his breath. He'd intended to rush, but without even utilising force-speed he'd ran past the droid and impaled it from the rear.

Another two doids appeared, one dual wielding, one with a sabre staff. This time, expecting it, and thus better able to control it he flashed as a blur past the sabre wielder, impaling it as he passed - then twin dart threw both sabres at the remaining one, the first was parried, the second impaled it cleanly through the head.

As he force-pulled his sabres back four droids appeared....

"No, no worries." The tall young man looped his arms around Alliera's waist and looked past her at the rack of supplies they were supposed to be cataloging. Most of it was either very mundane or very specialized - he saw something that looked like a high-caliber glue gun with a stick of nullification resin protruding from the feeder port. "I'm no expert, but unless your dreams are really harmful, I'm not sure repressing them is a good idea. I mean, you can't let yourself get sucked in by having unrealistic expectations for yourself, but it's good to care when things are wrong.

"Tell me about Hood...all I know is the name. Who is he? What's he like?"

Iara was watching from above, eyes half-closed, attention on the Force as well as on Arice. The ebb and flow of energy around him was strange - very dark, but not willingly or gleefully so. Infected, that was more like it.

As Arice danced with the last four droids, his curved sabres biting deep, Iara turned back and descended a stairwell to enter the training room. She waited as he dispatched them.

"Whatever this infection is doing to your biology, Arice, it certainly seems to free up your mind. I can sense you don't have to focus on using the Force to enhance your speed; it's like the infection does that for you, like a Force-sensitive animal uses it instinctively.

"What do you think about, then? While you're getting used to that?"

Arice lowered his sabres and shouted "Pause!" just as another eight robots entered the arena, then stopped in their tracks. He looked at Iara and chanced a thin smile, " I don't know... I don't think it's the force that's doing it, I... I don't know - I'm not using force-speed, but it feels like I'm moving faster than when using force speed... My mind it's on fire - I can think faster, it feels like the world is slowing down around me..."

At that point he suddenly saw her face again, and the world did slow down around them, he almost melted... But then something sinister grabbed him... A subtly predatory look grew on his face and he imagined himself piercing that jugular... And drinking deeply...

He forced the vision from his mind and turned his back on her sharply, "I.. I'm sorry... Iara... "

"No need to be," she lied, a little shaken. "I've been around predators before. It can't be easy, having Sith sorcery in your veins. I met a girl once who had five different kinds of Sith Poison in her blood. She kept strong. You can too." The distance between them was sudden and real...and she feared to break it. If he could do all this without trying, and could barely control himself...

In the back of her mind she thought of the same curse burning in her blood, quickening her motions...

Radar heard the man speak. He was trying to reason with him instead of reaching an arm in to tear him from his hideing hole. The creature twitched thinking what it could mean. Maybe the man really wanted to be friends? Or maybe his lie had worked and the man was trying to lure him from his hole to snatch him. Radar sniffed the air trying to catch a familiar scent, but failed to get anything but the mans oroma. Coutiously he started to ease his way towards the wholes entrance. \"Name is Radar.\" The creature said. He could see out now and see the man peering into the rocks. There was no way the man could fit into the whole because Radar himself could barely fit into the hole. Ossus. \"I am on Ossus?\" The create asked. That was the name of the planet the travels had talked about, now if only he could get out of the whole. The creature darted towards the the man and flung his hands out like he did in the past when he was in danger. Suddenly the man was hit with a knock out blow of force energy and the creature used his woobling as an oppartunity to escape and get ready to fly away. Instead the small furry animal turned and stared at the man wondering what exactly was happening. \"Ossus?\" he asked again.

Arice didn't cry, he didn't even feel like crying, he felt cold and ruthless. He turned back to her... That face... "Iara... I won't let this beat me... I've cheated death at least twice in my life before Mon Calamari... It's early days - I will beat this... I..."

He thought, about Iara, if he could tell anyone it had to be her.... "Iara, what I know is this, I was dead... Rissk revived me by feeding me her infected Vankyr Blood, the Vankyr infection is... It confers many things, physical strength, speed, regeneration - my arm grew back... But it... It had a price, they call it the thirst.... I... I... It's... It's blood... I feel a burning urge to drink the blood of the living, I don't know what happens to me if I don't... don't feed... But... I don't know... I feel almost dead inside, I can feel the darkside in me... I've never felt it before... Not fleeing the purge, mining ore on the asteroid penal colony, nor waiting for my execution aboard a YT1300 with a band of pirates... Even standing in the Arena Ship, facing down wave after wave of armed opponents.... I've never felt it - anger, fear, hate... Love?"

He chuckled softly, "It's not even that simple... My emotions feel distant and faint, I feel a pure darkside energy a cool malevolence... I wonder whether I should withdraw from the Shadows? Could I be a liability?"

He looked her in the eye now, he could see pity, he wanted to feel love, desire, comfort... And he could feel these things screaming at the door of his conscious mind - but they could not break down the barriers the Vankyr infection had created...

A transport arrived from the nearest cities space port. Three figures, all bearing luggage climbed off the transport and walked towards the temple doors. Their presence was causing something of a stir. They looked like an unknown race, every one had the textured skin of a Trandoshan, but in a shade of dark grey, near black... And with a crown of Zabrak horns about their heads.

The tallest, who appeared to be the leader turned to his two companions, a shorter male and a more petit built female. "This is the place, remember stick together - people may be hostile to us. We have to find Arice Quinn."

The female spat, "Hmmph! Why did she do this to us? Abandoned us at birth, vanishes - then we get told to come here at this time? It doesn't make sense!"

The third dropped his bags, "Maybe she's intending to meet us here? Maybe Arice Quinn is our father?"

"Hood was a Jedi Apprentice in the days before the Imperials reclaimed Coruscant, and his master died getting him off the planet after the Imperials took it." Alliera said, still with her head against Rach's chest "In my darkest days, Hood was a beacon of light, untill my boss figured out we were seeing eachother and chased him and his crew away." Tears dotted Alliera's eyes, as she remembered the dark day, but she kept them at bay. "He was strong, kind, and goofy..." Alliera said, smiling sadly "The better part of my dreams? when I see a little bit of ol' goofy hood under the darkness."
"But then I remember what Malakai turned him into..." Alliera said, frowning "A monster, an Assassin, and worse is...Malakai wants him to capture me..."

Re: Jedi Temple: Ossus (II)

The three dark grey skinned, Zabrak-Trandoshan hybrids were earning some strange looks as they entered the temple. They'd had no idea what to expect, a reception desk? Someone whom they could ask the whereabouts of Arice Quinn? Given the circumstances as they'd been told - asking about 'Rissk' didn't seem a good idea. Krath, the tallest male grabbed a passing Twi'Lek by the shoulder, "Do you know where we can find Arice Quinn?" She stared at him in terror for a moment, then sighed, "He's somewhere in the temple... Why do you want to know?"

Krath peered at the young girl, she was wearing a strange headpiece which seemed to restrict the movement of her Lekku, "We're not here to kill him, we just want to speak to him." Sesska stepped forwards, "We've been led to believe he may know the where abouts of our mother." Krokk, pulled Sesska's shoulder back, "We aren't looking for her! We were told to come to the temple, find Arice, and to learn the Jedi way."

Ossu looked from one to the other, there was a vague familiarity - slowly who these were was falling into place... She sighed deeply, "I.. I'm Arice Quinn's apprentice - I'm looking for him myself." Sesska offered a thin smile, which exagerated her trandoshan features and rested a clawed hand on Ossu's shoulder momentarily, "Thank you... Lead on!"

Ossu now led the way through the temple, with the three strange, almost sinister looking hybrids trailing behind her.

The telekinetic blow knocked Ember back. He blinked, then chuckled. "Serves me right for scaring you. Yes, this is Ossus, and the little city on the edge of the waterfall is my home, the Jedi Temple. I'm Ember Rekali, a Jedi Master. I'm pleased to meet you, Radar."

He gestured and a few small rocks lifted off the ground, swirled around, then fell back to the earth.

"You can do things like me, can't you? Can you show me what else you can do?"

"Why would Malakai want him to capture you?" said Rach. "Just to turn Hood farther to the Dark Side? Test his commitment?"

"I don't know if leaving the Shadows is best, Arice, but I don't think going out on missions for them is a good idea until you get a handle on what you're experiencing..." Iara trailed off as Ossu came in with three strange aliens, humanoid with reptilian skin and Zabrak horns. "Hello Ossu - who are your friends? You doing all right?"

Ossu looked confoundedly at Iara, "My friends? HIS more like..." Arice looked down the line of strange aliens quote baffled, "How should... Oh..."

He'd sensed something, it was all a bit strange though - it wasn't right, it didn't make sense. They sensed as if they were HIS children, yet he'd never... And how would that even explain these strange aliens?

Sesska stepped forwards and suddenly it started to make sense, she shared some of Rissk's facial features, "Arice, this may seem hard to accept and in some ways it isn't true - from biologically, you are our father."

Arice was gobsmacked, speechless almost, there was a long silence before, "But... " Sesska sighed deeply and cut him off, " Mother... Rissk had an affair with a clone of you. She didn't want Malakai influencing her children, she laid the eggs while travelling through a time-hole to Alderaan just prior to it's destruction. SO she sent the eggs off world while she was in the past - and left a message for us to come and find you here, now."

Arice looked at Iara, completely taken aback... Did it even make sense?

Iara blinked for a second...but having successfully run an invasion, and then a sector, she wasn't the dullest crayon in the box. "Once you assume that time travel is possible, it makes perfect sense. Alu is a genetic recombinant too - half Twi'lek and half Zeltron. And what better way to circumvent someone omniscient than to travel back to before he knows there's a problem?

"I'm Iara, Iara Beorht. Pleased to meet you all. Welcome to the Jedi Temple, and, i presume, to the Order?"
