Jessica was momentarily lost in thought. Something about this whole situation didn't feel right to her. When she finally noticed Charlie looking it her his unanswered question finally dawned on her mind. "Oh, right. Yes of course."

Something's not right about this, she thought to herself as she took off running towards the turbolift.

'I agree,' Darien Vann, a four thousand year old spirit that had bonded himself to her replied. He materialized in front of her though only she could see him, 'He has made the first move but that is all. Now he seems content to wait.'

Wait for what? Jedi?

Darien nodded, 'I'd assume so, yes.'

So this was a trap then and with two Jedi on board and a lot of soldiers this man had to really be something to feel so confident. This isn't an ordinary opponent then, is he? What do you suggest?

'Watch and observe, allow the newcomer to fight him first. You'll gain valuable insight on both of them.'

Jessica glanced over at Charlie as the two of them rode the lift down to Engineering. She didn't like the idea of using him like that but Darien did have a point. She knew about as much about him as she knew of her enemy, watching him fight will tell her more...

As Loss stood in the lift making its way to Engineering, he glanced at Sterling. She seemed to have drawn into herself, almost introspective. Loss closed his eyes, drawing upon the Force, gathering the strength he, for some reason, felt he would need. His thoughts flashed to the events of the last few hours...and he felt a tinge of sadness. Sadness that he would likely never see his good friend Aden Fader again, or any of the other Confederate Jedi. Nor would he see his true love, Esemeralla nor his son...

He clamped down on that thought, stifling it before it could blossom any further. Calming himself and sweeping his emotions and stray thoughts away with the Force, Loss took his lightsaber hilt from his belt as the lift began to slow.

Cay Fortri had reached Engineering and he came around a corner, as the lift door opened and Charlie Loss and Jessica Sterling stepped out. Ducking back behind the corner, he paused, slowing. He knew what his mission was and what he needed to do, but at the same time, he also knew that he wasn't to reveal himself unless he needed to, unless his hand was forced. Hopefully these two would be able to take care of it, and he wasn't going to have to get involved. He'd stand by, to make sure that this didn't get out of hand. His lightsaber was hidden and he watched, his eyes narrowing as he saw the series of events unfold.

All the lights were out.

The bodies of a few murdered engineers and guards, animated by telekinesis in a grotesque and simple manner, shuffled in the darkness towards the lift door. A horror weapon, nothing hugely intelligent or overwhelmingly powerful. Blasters hovered by slack palms, it being just as easy to keep them there without closing the fingers or even having a finger on the trigger. When those triggers depressed, it was by virtue of Ciribal Armel's will. Of course he couldn't aim them - powerful as he was, he didn't wish to over-invest himself in this or overtax his energies. He sat hidden on the floor behind a console, a long black blade in one hand and a small canister in the other.

Blasters fired, but they had all been set to stun: snapping blue concentric rings, impossible to block with a lightsabre, though a competent Jedi could absorb or reflect the energy or force himself to stay conscious despite the energies. It was, in part, a test of skill, an evaluation of just what kind of people Ciribal was dealing with. The kind who could defeat a stray stun blast...

The kind who could cut down a body as it shambled towards them...

As the corpses shambled towards them, blasters raised and poised to fire, Jessica held up on hand and created a wall of energy in front of herself and her companion. Stun bolts struck the wall, excess energy coursing along the length of it, and when the shooting stopped she released that energy and sent it back at her assailants. Bodies were tossed aside and weapons skittered across the floor but still that did not stop them from rising again.

'The bodies are a distraction,' Darien informed her, 'He's controlling them through telekinesis.'

Jessica had thought as much but still the thought of using fallen soldiers in this manner disgusted her. With her hand out to one side she summoned her lightsaber to her palm and thumbed it to life. More stun blasts struck out at them from the shadows but the nimble Jedi simply dodged them, ducking and weaving through the mess of bodies and slashing each blaster apart. The corpses were not the real threat but rather the weapons they "wielded". It didn't take long for the two Jedi working in tandem to "disarm" all the bodies but even though their victory came swiftly they knew their true enemy lurked nearby...

With Sterling, Loss weaved through the animated corpses slashing their blasters, making them inoperable, as he dodged the stun blasts.

This trickery is ridiculous, thought Loss as he slashed another blaster in two, Why even bother? A poor distraction.

Within minutes, the blasters had all been disarmed, and Loss reached out with the Force, attempting to locate the threat...

The bodies slumped; no point in wasting energy and focus, though he'd have liked to stand among the bodies in the dark, for camouflage. The tall nobleman in spacer's overalls got to his feet and limped out from behind a console. He kept the long dark blade in his right hand and the canister in his left, though it was empty now.

"To find a Jedi with actual skill or a Jedi with scruples...these are rare occurrences. To find a Jedi with scruples and skill is something else entirely. I count myself fortunate. And yet your heart rates, your breath rates, have increased over the last several minutes. Perhaps you've noted a strange tang in the air, though I doubt it: all I can smell is death and burnt blasters. My mother always told me I had a keen sense of smell, albeit in rather more colloquial terms.

"Do you know what Sith Poison is?" he said, voice smooth and cultured. "The ancient Sith would infect Jedi with an alchemically altered biotoxin. In sufficient concentration it strips away rationality, leads to powerful anger...it can even kill, though Jedi with your skills should be safe from its more debilitating effects."

He tossed the canister; it clanked on the bloody deck, empty.

"And as it turns out, it can be aerosolized."

He came from a hidden world, Arcanix, where the very air was thick with it. He considered himself skilled in counteracting its more hazardous effects; in the Cult of Shadow, that much was required at far lower levels than the one to which he'd attained. The same went for the tattoos under his clothing, which provided a constant flow of the poison to ensure the Cultist's loyalty to the Dark Side.

Having been a Jedi Master for nearly a decade, Charlie Loss had learned Force powers he had never thought he would have to use. Of course, the galaxy he came from seemed more stable then the galaxy he had wound up in only hours ago.

As soon as he had noticed the strange tang in the air, he knew bad things would start to happen if he didn't do something. Already, anger stirred within him that he normally never felt.

Drawing the Force around him, Loss focused on his lungs and his body, numbing his body, as he held his breath, to the effects of not breathing, preserving what little oxygen was left in his lungs. This technique was breath control, something he had learned even as a padawan from his master.

In our civilized world, it is unlikely one will ever use "breath control" or "detoxify", but it is necessary to know it for the unexpected."

A memory flashed in his mind of his master teaching him these techniques, and him, being an impatient boy of fifteen, rolling his eyes at the "useless" technique.

Reigniting his azure lightsaber, Loss straightened and brought his lightsaber into an en guard position, and advanced on the attacker after a quick glance at Sterling.

OOC/ Sorry - exams, then sick.

IC/ Ciribal's eyes widened. Even in the dim light of Loss' weapon, he recognized a superior stance when he saw it. For the first time, he began to feel a hint of fear. Two against one was never a good idea, not unless one had something to prove.

He brought the long black blade up in a two-fisted grip, a loose, slightly hunched stance that allowed for maximum speed. He was good with the 'modern' styles, but his classical sabre technique lacked. Not for the first time, he cursed Aerianna Shun for limiting the knowledge passed down to her lackeys - and since her death and his initiation into the Cult of Shadow, he had been too conscious of his own status to seek out and learn from a true blademaster. Any sign of weakness would be death, to his mind, and he had no great knowledge of other things to share. He was, by and large, a jack of all trades, and that meant he had nothing to trade.

Of course he'd worked hard at his technique, killed more than one Jedi, more than one Cultist - even with his artificial leg, he was a respectable duellist.

He moved to the attack, using the weight and low visibility of the sword to his advantage. The black alchemical blade met Loss' lightsabre and was arrested; Ciribal struck again, shuffling to the side, trying to keep Loss between himself and Jessica.
