Avengers: Death From Above

Post by Cazzik » Mon Jul 30, 2007 2:27 am

After the defeat of the Chrell warrior known as Revak, Ethan Drake, the new Iron Man, put out an invitation to several super heroes to join the new team of Avengers. Though only three answered they proved to be three of the bravest heroes alive; Daredevil, Spider-Man, and Arsenal. Though the team is new, they have all ready proven to be a beacon of hope to the entire world. Most recently, Iron Man discovered a 22 year old college student with amazing abilities. The boy defeated a crazed mutant powerhouse who had attempted to destroy Empire State University. Iron Man discovered his Krytponian origins and has invited him to join the Avengers and take up the mantle of Superman. With the Avengers' help he could prove to be a powerful upholder of justice. On this day, the team has just reentered Avengers Tower after introducing the new Superman to the world. The team is unaware that a small meteor is about to crash just outside the border of Washington D.C.

Avengers Tower
Iron Man was the last inside. He was the leader and the spokesman for the team and felt that he should be the last seen. He wasn't at all surprised to see Alex enter first. The boy wasn't used to the publicity. In fact, he wasn't sure the others were either. He, on the other hand, was in the spot light both as Iron Man and as Ethan Drake. Though it wasn't the greatest place in the world, he at least felt comfortable there. He walked past the others and placed his metallic hand on the back of Superman's shoulders.
"You'll get used to it. You might never enjoy it. But at least you'll learn to cope."

Before Alex responded an alarm went off. Iron Man moved away quickly and headed towards a large computer console. He typed furiously just as the others approached to see what was going on. Ethan, who had not yet let his teammates know who he really was, frowned underneath his helmet. He turned to the others.
"A meteor has crashed down just outside of Washington D.C. The military is requesting a meta human team assist with the recovery. They said military satellites picked up something moving inside of it."

He stepped away from the console.
"Unfortunately, I have something to take care of and Alex really should get to class. If the three of you," Iron Man motioned at Spider-Man, Daredevil, and Arsenal, "could take a Quinjet and assist the military that would be helpful. I'm sure if there really is anything in there they have more than enough weaponry there to defend themselves. However, should you need us both Alex and myself will keep our communicators on."

He told them good luck before turning and retreating to the upper levels of Avengers Tower. Alex bid the three farewell before flying out the window. Arsenal turned to the other two.
"All right. I guess it's just us. So, who wants to fly Tin Man's toy plane?"

Julius frowned under his mask. “The better question is who is qualified to fly tin mans toy.” He shook his head and looked at the jet. “I hate planes.” He mumbled. His mind drifted to The A-Team and he remembered the team knocking Mr. T out with poisoned milk. “I pity the foo” he said laughing. “No one better try to give me milk.” He said betting nearly no one would get the reference.

Daredevil turned his head to arsenal. "Um, yeah I'm lacking a skill or two needed to fly." Jason knew his sonar sense helped him 'see' but it had its limits. He doubted it would work well at such high speeds. "Isn't there like an autopilot? I mean come on, with all that tech crammed into it I'm sure it can't be too hard..."

Arsenal smiled. He could fly well enough to get them to their destination. It was amusing though. Here they were, Earth's mightiest heroes, trying to figure out which of them knew how to fly a damn jet. He has happy there weren't any news crews around right now. He turned to the others.
"I can get us there. Hope nothing in that rock tries to shoot us down though. We're screwed if I have to maneuver."

Spider-Man and Daredevil followed Arsenal to the hangar bay where three Quinjets sat. They boarded the first one and started up the engines. The whole trip Arsenal instructed the other two on how to fly the plane. It wasn't difficult, especially with all the automated systems Iron Man had put on board. Arsenal felt it was strange that they were all on a team and no one, with the exception of Superman, had let any of the others know who they really were. Of course, Alex really hadn't had any sort of choice in the matter, seeing as how Iron Man had discovered him before he ever had a costume or secret identity.

It actually didn't take the group long to make it to the crash site. As the jet landed they could see numerous soldiers surrounding the area up ahead. Tanks were lined up and standing next to one of them was the man clearly in charge. They descended the ramp and were escorted to the officer who turned to greet them.
"You must be the Avengers. I'm General Paxton."

He shook each of their hands before continuing.
"Sorry you had to make the long trip, but the President did request your presence. Actually, he was hoping to speak with James and Paul Matthews, a couple of genius science nerds from Metropolis. I guess they were unreachable at the time. So, he wanted the Avengers on hand in case this thing turned out to be hostile."

The General motioned around at the troops and artillery.
"Of course, I assured him you weren't needed. If anything unfriendly comes at us, we'll blow it to kingdom come," he grinned. "The President is waiting to meet with one of you right now. That truck will give you a ride to the White House," he motioned towards a military jeep with two soldiers next to it.

Arsenal nodded.
"Spider-Man can take the President. DD and I will stay here in case you need us, General."

The officer nodded and motioned towards the soldiers to escort Spider-Man to the truck and then to the White House.

The president was sitting at the desk, with Spider-Man swinging lazily in a hastily constructed hammock of webbing. “The problem with your educational policy, is that you don’t pay teachers enough. Think about it, a trash man makes more then those who educate our children.” He shrugged in his hammock as the president continued to ignore and him and handed a folder to his secretary, a secretary who Julius found rather attractive.

“And you’re a teacher?” The president asked. He had been doing that, asking questions in a vain attempt to make Jules reveal his identity.

“No,” Spider-Man said. He thought for a brief moment, he already told the president he was a Polish immigrant, that he worked as a rodeo clown for a brief period of time, and that he had a twin brother. All lies. “I’m a doctor.” He said lying again.

“You’re a doctor?” the secretary asked. Julius nodded at her and she smiled and put her hand to her mouth. “Cough, cough” she said playfully. “You think that needs to be looked at?”

Spider-Man smiled “Maybe later I’ll give you an examination.”

“That’s enough Elise.” The President said as he pushed the papers into in her hand.

“That’s why I didn’t vote for him.” Spider-Man said lying once again. “He always seemed like this on the TV!” he chuckled in his head. “Cold you know?” the woman laughed and then retreated after recieving a look from the President...

CRASH SITE
Arsenal was now much closer than anyone else to the meteor, though Daredevil was not far behind him. He wasn't really sure what they had expected the Avengers to do here. In fact, he thought it was a little funny that no one was doing anything. The military just sat there with their weapons aimed at the space debris like they were going to guard it forever until it decided to move. He turned to see General Paxton waiting anxiously for Arsenal to give him some sort of information. Just as he was about to whisper how ridiculous this was to Daredevil there was a loud bang and he whirled around to watch the meteor crack open and release massive amounts of steam.

He jumped back closer to the soldiers, Daredevil next to him. He frowned as more and more steam came pouring out of the rock. Arsenal had his bow in hand and loaded with an explosive arrow. The weapon was aimed directly at the crater. He noticed that Daredevil, too, was ready for anything. Suddenly, the meteor completely broke apart, pieces flew everywhere. As the steam cleared a massive figure could be seen standing in the crater. It looked like some kind of cybernetic humanoid. At first it made no move to attack. It simply looked around at the heavy weaponry aimed at it. Arsenal stared at the nearly eight foot tall alien. He was the first to speak.
"You are on the planet Earth within the boundaries of the United States government."

The alien turned his gaze to the hero as he continued.
"I'm Arsenal and this is Daredevil. We are members of a team called the Avengers."

The alien continued to stare for a long time before finally speaking. His voice was deep, almost omnipotent.
"Avengers. Where is your king?"

Arsenal looked at Daredevil for a moment before turning back.
"You must mean the President. He's at the White House. But I'm sure General Paxton here is more than qualified to..."

Arsenal was cut off by a soldier yelling.
"General! Our computers have gone haywire! It's long all the information is being downloaded at once! It's impossible, sir!"

They whirled back around to look at the alien who was staring at the computers on board the mobile command center. Suddenly it spoke.
"White House. Washington, District of Columbia. Thank you, Avengers."

In a blinding flash of blue light the alien was gone. Arsenal turned to Paxton.
"General! We need to get to the White House! Now!"

THE WHITE HOUSE
The President had to admit that he was slightly irritated with Spider-Man. He had been hoping to speak with someone such as Iron Man or perhaps Daredevil. He had not realized just how prone to joking around this particular hero was. There was a multitude of things that needed to be discussed, most of which regarding the fallen meteor, but some of it pertained to the formation of this new, elite team of heroes. The old Avengers had certainly been a beacon for good, but there had been times when they did what they felt was best and it came into conflict with the law and the US government. He wanted to make sure this was something that wouldn't happen again.

Just as he was about to speak again, several secret service agents came rushing through the door and stood in front of the President with their guns out and ready.
"Mr. President, the White House has been infiltrated. Someone tried to hack into the military central intelligence. We shut down power to the computers. We're not sure what it is, but we know it isn't a normal human."

The President looked at Spider-Man.
"Can you stop it, son?"

Before the hero could reply the same secret service agent looked at him.
"Hold him off while we get the President to safety. He looks like an agent, but he isn't. He moves a hell of a lot faster, and he seems to be pretty strong."

Suddenly, the agent he had been talking about entered the room. Perhaps had he been wearing sunglasses you would have thought he was a normal human. But without them you could see two, brightly lit, glowing blue eyes. It located its target.
"President. I am Tryax the Conqueror. You will tell me what I wish to know."

"This just in." The T.V. in the bar flipped to the Emergency Broadcast system, and suddenly the bar went from being very noisy, to rather silent, all eyes afixed to the T.V. "We have reports that the White House has been infiltrated, by what we do not know. But our sources tell us that the president is fine, and guarded well, despite the fact that it would seem that this 'person or thing' has indeed entered the white house without much resistance. We will keep you up to date as we broadcast live from the white house." The EBS flipped off and returend the T.V. to the previous program. The bar went back to it's usual noise level, but seemed like many were talking about this result, and talking about it being one of those pesky mutants.

Shy sat back eyes still glued to the Television, but her mind wandering around the room, listening to all the conversations behind the conversations. She still hadn't learned nearly enough to keep control of probing peoples minds, but had learned enough to seperate each one so she could hear it clearly. "All or nothing" She whispered as she got up and stopped listening as she walked out the door.

"Washington D.C.. Kind of far away to worry about." Shy looked up at all the skyscrapers that were surrounding her.

She walked up to the street and flagged down a Taxi. "Take me to the Daily Planet please."

"Yes Ma'am" the driver replied as he flipped the flag in the cab.

“Mr. President.” Spider-Man said. “I’ll hold him off if I can, you run.” He said it simple and the president along with two secret servant agents ran from the office. Bending his knees Julius jumped and threw his fist forward. He hit the metallic body of the interloper and knocked him back a few feet. Shaking his head, and his fist, he took a few steps back. “That didn’t hurt you at all?” he said as the alien slammed through a wall and pursued the president.

No time to think Julius hurled himself through the door, and tackled the president to the ground moments before the alien burst through the wall. He lifted the president up, saw the window and jumped out of it shooting a web into a tree and hitting open ground outside the white house. “Don’t worry sir.” He said cracking his neck. “I’ll get you to safety.”

"Here you are Ma'am, the daily planet. That'll be $17"

"Getting a bit expensive to get anywhere in this city." Shy said as she handed the driver a 20. "Keep the change."

Shy looked up at the Daily Planet, shaking her head while thinking about how long it had been there.

She walked into the front door and looked around. "Miss Rayne, this came in for you." the mail room clerk stopped her just before she reached the front desk.

"Thanks Tommy." Shy grabbed her mail and walked up to the front desk. "Any messages for me?"

"Jim want's to speak to you about your newest photos, other than that, nothing has come in. " Cheryl motioned for Shy to come closer and whispered into her ear. "He's a bit upset that we didn't have anyone in DC when all this came down. I think he may be thinking about sending you and Nathan out there."

"Nathan?... As in Nathan Young?"

"Yeah, Jim hired him last week, just after you went on vacation, I'd suggest you be careful around him, he seems to be a big hot shot. If you don't watch it, you'll never break into being able to actually write a story with him around."

"Thanks Cheryl."

Shy walked up to Jim's office, and noticed that he was on the phone when she entered the room. "You don't know who you are dealing with do you?" he shouted on the phone. "I'm Jim W. Jameson and if I need a private jet to take my reporters from Metropolis to DC, I'd better get it, is that understood?" After a few moments the phone slammed down on the desk.

"SHY!" Jim turned around and stared at her with his eyes wide open. "Why weren't you in DC this morning?"

"Because..."

"I don't want any excuses, I know you weren't there and that's all I needed to know. I want you and Nathan to get on a plane and get to DC as soon as you can."

"But..."

"Oh, by the way... These pictures are great, get down to Cheryl and I'll have her cut you a check for all of them."

"Can I say something now?"

"Oh... yeah, sorry about that, way to much on my mind, what is it?"

"I was wondering if you really needed me down in DC, I just got back from vacation, and kind of needed to catch up on some work here."

"You are the only photographer I have available right now. So I'd have to say, Yes!... Get your cute little butt down to DC and get me some pictures of who ever, or whatever it is that is infiltrating the white house, and do me a favor... Keep an eye on Nathan, I hear he's famous for finding trouble."

"Yes Sir."
And the Truth will set you free!

Metropolis: The Daily Planet

Nathan Young sat at his desk. He was only twenty-six years old but he had all ready established himself as an amazing reporter. He had a real knack for getting the facts right before anyone else, and thus, getting it to print before the competition did. He was typing up his latest story when his heart sank.

She was wearing a long, black overcoat, buttoned up so the only other thing he could see was her high heels. He watched her exit the elevator and look around the floor before locating his desk. She smiled slightly at him as she approached. He turned in his chair as she stopped in front of his little work space.
"Hello, little brother."

He did not smile. His face remained the same, unpleasant frown it had been the moment he spotted her.
"What are you doing here, Julia? What do you want?"

She smiled warmly. There was an almost sad look on her face.
"I came to say goodbye, Nathan. I didn't mean to upset you by my presence."

His face did not change.
"Goodbye? Where are you going?"

Her smile faded.
"I just won't be able to see you anymore. Things are about to happen. Mutants are going to start claiming what is rightfully theirs. I just wanted to see my little brother one more time before it starts, even if he didn't want to see me."

He stood up and his face was inches from hers.
"Fine. You saw me. Now get out and don't come back here."

A single tear rolled down the side of her face and she turned away from him. She walked to the elevator and pressed the down button. As she boarded it she gave one last glance at her brother and smiled a rather sad smile. Then she was gone.

Washington D.C.: Just Outside the White House

Daredevil and Arsenal arrived just outside the White House with General Paxton and his strike force when Spider-Man came jumping out carrying the President. His companions ran up to him as he sat the nation's leader down next to the General. Before any of them got a word out there was a loud crash and they looked up to see the Secret Service Agent with glowing blue eyes come hurling through the side of the building.

Arsenal was the first to charge in. Spider-Man and Daredevil directly behind him. He let loose an arrow with an explosive tip. It hit the alien and knocked him backwards several feet. However, other than that, it did not seem to affect him. Arsenal heard General Paxton give the order to open fire. A tank shot and impacted its target. Tryax flew backwards and hit the ground. At first nothing happened. Arsenal looked at the other two Avengers and dared to hope that maybe that had put him down. He was wrong.

Through the smoke a figure appeared. No longer was it the small, human form of the Secret Service Agent. Instead it was a massive, strong looking ten foot high being in some sort of full body armor. Arsenal turned back and watched as several tanks and the soldiers began firing. Tryax raised his hand and a blue energy shield appeared in front of him. Carter frowned and pressed his communication device.
"Iron Man, this is Arsenal. Grab Alex and get to the White House. We're going to need some help."

He shut it off and looked at the others.
"We're going to need to slow him down before he hurts the soldiers."

He pulled out another arrow and prepared to run forward.
"And whatever happens, don't let him get the President."

The skies above the White House grew dark, almost prophetically. Had no one been paying much attention, the next instance would have taken them completely off-guard. A blast of lighting came searing toward Tryax, sending the massive alien stumbling back a couple feet. Before he could respond, several more blasts came at him, each knocking him further back.

The source of the energy flew into view, several feet above ground. Wielding his massive hammer, Thor pointed to the intruder with his free hand. "Stand down and return from whence you came!" he yelled. "Lest you will face the fury of Thor!"

Arsenal's mouth dropped open. He couldn't help it. A man had just knocked Tryax back using lightning from the sky itself. He claimed to be Thor, one of the most powerful heroes to ever live. No, not just a hero, a god. Arsenal got control of himself and raised his weapon again. Spider-Man and Daredevil were next to him, and then something happened. He could feel it in his head, like someone was trying to control him. As he looked at his allies he could tell they also felt it, but seemed to be resisting it as well. His gaze raised to the sky to see Thor who, no doubt, was feeling the same thing. And then Tryax spoke.
"You Avengers have strong wills. Not all members of your race are the same."

From behind them General Paxton's voice could be heard.
"Kill the Avengers! Kill them all!"

The soldiers, obviously all under Tryax's mind control, fired immediately upon the order. Daredevil and Arsenal found shelter behind one of the front pillars. They couldn't see Spider-Man, but with his danger sense Arsenal had no doubt he was safe. He looked at Daredevil.
"We can't hurt them. They're being controlled. We need to get Tryax away from them."

He also knew that Thor couldn't possibly take on Tryax and the soldiers. He was powerful, but that was a lot of damage aimed at him. He looked up at the sky and avoided a bullet meant for his head. He yelled as loud as he could and hoped the thunder god could hear him.
"Thor! We need to talk to you!

Over the commotion and Thor sustaining or avoiding the barrage of once-friendly fire, he had barely heard the call from below. Thor set in motion a cover of fog that completely surrounded his area, then through the moment of distraction, dove to the cover below.

Keeping his hammer at ready, Thor spared a glance around the resulting battlefield. "I can take him on," he told the others, "but not with the army firing at my back." Granted, Thor was uncertain if he could do any real damage against Tryax; he had sent some powerful blasts at the alien invader and it seemed to do little more than discomfort him. Thor knew he could stand his own against Tryax, but anything more than that was up for speculation. "I presume you have a plan?"

Arsenal frowned.
"Well, not so much a plan as a quick fix. Iron Man and Superman are on their way. But we need to distract him so we can make sure those soldiers don't get hurt. If you can keep him occupied for the moment we will disarm the General and his troops."

A few more bullets whizzed by his location. He took a deep breath.
"From what we can tell Tryax is rather powerful. Just focus on him. We'll keep the troops off your back."

He thought for a moment. There were a lot of troops, but Tryax could potentially hurt Thor if he didn't have backup. He turned and looked at Spider-Man.
"You go with Thor. Help him distract Tryax. But be careful. You aren't nearly as durable as the big guy here."

"I say we should get started then." Daredevil said with a notcieable amount of haste. He extended his staff and leaped out from cover, did he have a plan? Not really, but his superb ability to dodge bullets and use non-lethal attacks was about to come in handy big time. Daredevil decided to go for the tanks, taking them down would be a priority. Jason spun about in air, twisting his body violently to avoid fire. He landed not ten meters in front of one tank which turned its main gun on him.

He heard the commander of the tank yell fire from inside the tank and jumped into the air. The tank round smashed into the ground he once stood on, the commander then mounted the machine gun atop the tank, firing at Daredevil falling towards him. Jason landed on top of the main cannon of the tank and quickly sprung to the side to avoid a string of bullets the commander was so readliy firing at him.

Daredevil extended his staff and struck the commander directly in the forehead knocking him unconcious. Jason then jumped down the hatch and landed inside the tank. A few quick strikes later and the crew was incapacitated. He then jumed out and moved to the second and final tank.
