Damnation: From the Gates of Hell

New York City – Manhattan

The roar of the streets below dissipated severely the higher up one went from the street level. The sound of the breeze was the only audible sound on the roof of the large warehouse, combined with the setting sun, it was peaceful. However, after seeing the depths of Hell, just about anything seemed peaceful. The endless tortures and the screams of those all around made Hell live up to its name; so many went in, rarely did someone - or something rather - ever come out. The was one who did return from the depths of Hell, one who sold his very soul for a chance to avenge those who he loved and were killed.

He stood on the rooftop staring out over the city, the distant skyscrapers jutted up from the main part of Manhattan showing the contrast from one part of the borough to others. Somewhere in that mass of steel and stone was the area called Times Square; the images of Times Square had been burned into his mind. So many had died there during a surprise raid by a group of super-villains, he was one of them.

His name then was Tom Thatcher, a student from New York City on a trip to the Museum of Modern Art. It had all happened so quickly, his bus was right in the thick of the initial attack. His bus was, in fact, the initial attack; the bus was thrown by one of the super villains and it impacted into a nearby building. The bus was destroyed on contact and everyone on board was killed, this of course sent Tom to Hell. He was in Hell only two human days but to him it felt like an eternity, the endless torture repeated over and over.

Finally he had enough of the pain and the images of his love Regina who was also killed in the accident. He screamed with all his might, crying for revenge; what happened next he would never have expected. He was approached by an ominous dark figure offering him a second chance, a chance to avenge both himself and those he loved. Not giving it a second thought he agreed and in a flash of white light he was back in Time Square, humans again.

It wasn’t until that night when he witnessed a mugging that he felt the first chance, his body ached all over, he felt himself burning up until finally the chance was complete. He wasn’t Tom anymore.

He was Ghost Rider.

With a vision in his mind he hopped off the rooftop and mounted his motorcycle and took off for the city. He would have his vengeance, sooner or later.

New Leads and Old Scores

New York City – Bronx

The silence of the night was shattered by the deafening roar of the motorcycle as it rumbled down the empty streets. Tom’s eyes scanned the sidewalks as he sped down the streets, he didn’t have to go far until he found what he was looking for. On one corner was a group of kids wearing red bandanas with white lightning bolts on the sides, the sign of the group of super villains responsible for the attack on Times Square. Shifting he weight, Tom threw the bike to the left and swung it around in a wide u-turn which sent him back towards the group of kids.

The bike skidded to a stop at the corner which sent the gang members jumping out of the way. Tom dismounted the bike and grabbed one kid by the collar, “Who runs this gang! Huh! Give me a name!” In response, the kids punched Tom which gave the kid he was holding time to escape his clutches and run away into the nearby alley. That of course pushed Tom over the edge, his body began to burn up again and his body started to ache. He stepped into the alley where the gang members were hiding, the fence at the other end stretched up two stories preventing their escape.

Tom was doing his best to prevent the change but finally it took over fully, he yelled with all his might as his body transformed; the gang member’s faces became filled with horror at the sight they saw in front of them. “Wh-Who are you?” one gang member stammered.

The voice that came from the flaming skull in front of them was a voice that lived up to it’s demonic appearance, “I am the Spirit of Vengeance, I am the Hellspawn,” he stepped forwards and grabbed the gang member again by the collar and slammed him into the wall, “I am Ghost Rider.”

“Wh-What do you want with us?” the gang member squealed.

“Who runs your little outfit?! I want names!”

“His name’s Brimstone! He used to live around here before his brother turned on him and split the group. He’s in Manhattan with his girl Phoenix and their friend Green Phantom.”

Ghost Rider tightened his grip, “What about the others? There were six who attacked Times Square!”

“That’s his brother Shockwave, and his two bodyguards Nuclear Winter and Quake. No one knows where they are, they split from the group days ago. That’s all I know, I swear!” the gang member confessed.

Ghost Rider then threw the gang member into the others knocking them all down, “We told you what you wanted to know, leave us alone!” they pleaded.

Ghost Rider only smiled as he unwrapped the chain from his torso. He whipped it towards the gang members and it wrapped around one particularly scared thug which made his start squirming. With a simple tug of the chain the thug was sent flying into the wall of the alley which produced a crunch as his body hit the wall breaking bones. The other two attempted to climb the tall fence but Ghost Rider threw two balls of Hellfire at them causing them to fall to the ground. One thug slammed his head onto the concrete and cracked open his skull, killing him; the last tried to crawl away before Ghost Rider grabbed him and slammed him back into the wall.

“You send Brimstone a message. Tell him that the Lost Souls of Times Square are coming for him and all his friends!”

With that, Ghost Rider dropped the thug and mounted his motorcycle and took off for Manhattan, he had some leads to follow up on.

New York City - Manhattan

The sun was blazing overhead, the heat was unbearable to many people who took shelter in any form of shade they could. Men and women alike were soaked in sweat as they desperately tried to cool themselves down. However, to Tom, this was cold; the fires of Hell could make anything seem cool. Either way, Tom didn't have time to think about the heat, he was far too busy uncovering leads of his own, he was too busy putting together the pieces of the puzzle.

Pulling his aviator sunglasses down over his eyes and shifting his leather jacket, Tom shoved his way through the crowd as he walked the streets of Manhattan, his former home. During the day, Tom was unable to use the full extent of his powers so usually during the days he spent time following leads and gathering information. So far he had raided four gang hideouts trying to draw out the villians responsible for his death. There were six of them, three of them would be easy to find, however, the other three were nowhere to be found, even members of their old gang had no idea where to find them.

Needless to say he would still have a lot more work to do if he were to find all of them but he took what he could get. As he passed a news stand he grabbed a paper and began to read the headlines, "Rouge Group Continues Crime Wave!" and "Mysterious Mutant Feud Brewing in Manhattan!" As he read it was apparent that the thugs he interregated the nights before were right about a rift in the group. Either way, they would pay; the Lost Souls have no pity for group arguments, and Tom was going to make sure of that.
